「転生の取引」 (Tensei no Torihiki)
“Deal of Reincarnation”
The isekai strategy is always the same. Reach new world. Become acquainted with new world. Exert your MC skills and dominate the new world. Think Sekai Saikou would break the trend? Best think again, though given how it’s going about the process I don’t think I’ll have too many complaints.
Following in the footsteps of last week’s little real world interlude, this episode was all about bringing our MC Lugh fully into alternate world reality. There’ll be (or should be) no real surprises here, as magic, skills, and divine assistance all factor into making the assassin a true and credible threat. Still uncertain just why he needs to go about killing a hero of course – what’s a story without a tease? – but at least we have some specifics on the matter alongside (quite shockingly) a hard deadline. Kill the hero in a two year window after he takes care of the Demon LordTM yet before he does the big bad something or other? Quite the ask considering who Lugh is apparently dealing with, but I imagine the results will prove quite interesting.
Outside of narrative groundwork, however, we also got the usual array of childhood developments – and some less than usual experiences. I doubt I’m the only one who felt slightly off at seeing Sekai Saikou’s variety of medical examination in action, or raised an eyebrow at getting a mother figure who puts a little too much emphasis on her motherly duties. And don’t forget that comedic crossdressing either, we’re certainly going for all the points right now! To Sekai Saikou’s benefit though, Lugh himself isn’t being made out as the end all be all; the kid may have a shrewd mind, latent talent, and a family imparting a good deal of knowledge, but he’s also lacking in magic skill and physical strength. This leaves a good deal of room for ingenuity to shine through, ensuring (if only in part) that upcoming events are determined more by how Lugh outmanouevres his enemies than by how easily he overpowers them. Won’t be in every encounter mind you (just wait until he masters explosions) but I’m optimistic the material we’ll get will prove fun for more than the powers flying about.
All we have to see is how well that hitherto unnamed hero lives up to their ominous reputation.
