I’m not sure what brought on a week’s delay for Sigururi, but I have to admit it certainly helped in terms of advancing things along. While undeniably a show whose reach has exceeded its grasp, there’s still a good deal of fun to be had in Sigururi, and if the latest reveals are anything to go by, plenty of tasty canon to accompany it as well. Love it or hate it, large scale action is now on the horizon.
After beating around the bush for so long, it’s now official: Odin is the baddie. Not like this wasn’t obvious after a few episodes of course (menacing eyepatches give the game away), but between thoughts of the guy/kid/eyepatched deity actually being Loki in raven lover’s clothing or the whole purpose of Odin’s appearance being to bring about Ragnarok, it was difficult to tell. The interesting bit for me is half the hypotheses proving right; Odin has been confirmed to be Odin (paintings never lie!), but is apparently trying to bring about Ragnarok after it’s already happened. Yeah, weird from a Norse perspective, although probably makes sense for Odin given he’s supposed to be dead according to all that prophecy. There’s quite a bit here needing elaboration on, however unlike a lot else of Sigururi I expect we’ll get it before the end because if there’s one thing enemies love to do it’s proudly state their plans and reasoning while beating up the good guys.
As for everything—and everyone—else, well, same old Sigururi. While Azu does best girl things and lets Claudia showcase her leader talents (besides hinting towards things to come), Sonoka has unfortunately pulled the divisive card courtesy of confidence crisis and past trauma. This sort of development is a given no matter the story, but I’m hard-pressed to like it when it’s so condensed with minimal buildup; just compare against Tamaki’s similar situation in Enn Enn no Shouboutai, that growth was weeks in the making. Of course probably a tad unfair on my part given I’m all in on tsundere Indiana Jones, but considering how well Sigururi has built up other aspects of its story, I’m not going to fret the criticality too much. There’s plenty more to go where this show is concerned, and just a few weeks remaining to cram it all in.
Good thing we have our handy dandy Valkyrie support boys to help keep things on track then wouldn’t you say?

A little revelation, and a long time coming. This new direction in the story isn’t exactly mind-blowing but something I had been wishing for since the start. I just feel that a lot of the show’s deaths should have been more impactful but most of it just serve as some necessity in the plot. Well, given that we are now definitely moving towards the show’s climax, I hope they make this right. This was a fun series but overall, I felt it was too inconsistent and confused as to what it would like to be. I hope the rest of the episodes prove me wrong.
All I’m really hoping for is a half-decent ending at this point. There’s a good kernel of an idea under all the fluff here, but I’m starting to feel Sigururi dropped the ball early on when it came to maximizing its potential.
