「成長は突然やってくる」 (Seichō wa Totsuzen Yattekuru)
“Growth Happens Out of Nowhere”
Sometimes all you need is a little push from your friends, which happens to be this week’s episode motif. Fel is fed up with Mukouda not growing rapidly enough, so he enlists him in a mid-level dungeon. Like most dungeons in isekai’s it’s filled with monsters and werewolves, I guess? And of course, the unicorn bunnies are here as well, we can’t forget about the unicorn bunnies. When it comes to the cast of monsters, Tondemo isn’t exactly brimming with creativity. But we’re not here to see who copied DQ (once again) instead we are here for delicious–looking food and friendship times with Mukouda, Sui, and Fel.
Around this point is where I took a break from reading manga, but I might pick it back up so we can once again be on par with the anime. If you haven’t already checked out the manga, you should totally give it a whirl. The art style actually resembles that of the ED, and boy is it cute. And it works very well for the series, at first I wasn’t totally convinced but it’s totally worth it to pick up the volumes if you can.
Then rather at the end of the episode, we get an unexpected surprise, it seems Sui (Kino, Hina) can finally talk – maybe he was talking the whole time and speech comprehension wasn’t high enough so other’s couldn’t understand him, but now that he’s high level enough after helping Mukouda violently murder one of this own kind, and other monsters in the dungeon. He is able to talk and the VA threw it out of the park. Honestly so cute!
Another interesting topic of note is that dungeons actually seem to eat the corpses of the ones that die inside of them, so in a sense dungeons are some sort of Lovecraftian entities that are living and breathing, and when you go inside them, you are actually going into their guts? Am I getting that right? I don’t know, this show is too fluffy and cute to dive into something like that. But oh boy do I love cosmic horror in my stories. I guess it’s just an idea to play around with.
Anyway, pretty tame episode honestly, but still quite good, Tondemo keeps being an interesting watch that I just can’t put down. Perfect to cuddle up with some tasty treats and savor the food on your screen. Because if anything Mukouda has cooked right into our hearts. And who could forget that omake at the end of the episode! It can’t go without mention of course! See you next week!
