“Will You Accept? Or Won’t You?”

「受ける?それとも受けない?」 (Ukeru? Soretomo Ukenai?)

Shiraishi’s College Decision:

Shiraishi really is an interesting female lead – she’s studious and introverted, but she isn’t at all phased by what goes around her, and not because she’s out of the loop. She can crack a joke every now and then, and doesn’t let herself get carried away in the madness of the Supernatural Studies Club, but as it turns out, there’s more beneath the surface: she’s the best student in the entire school, yet she doesn’t want to pursue further education in college. College isn’t for everyone, for sure, but you’d think if there were someone it was made for, surely it would be Shiraishi.

It was another rapid-paced episode, but I still don’t feel the need to file any complaints about it (for the most part). In fact, I like that it’s constantly moving from one thing to the next; one of those things this episode was getting to visit Shiraishi’s home. Obviously, through kissing, the ended up finding themselves in her room, before Yamada kicked them out. It’s all a bit predictable with Shiraishi returning in Yamada’s body, and then deciding rather easily to change her mind on college. It was cute, for sure, but if there was one moment where I would have liked more time on, it would have been what was going through Shiraishi’s mind. I don’t remember if we got that in the manga, but if we did, it didn’t adapt very well. For the most part, it was a safe story with a few times for gags here and there, but none were as funny as we got in the past two weeks.

Battle for the Student Council President:

What I did enjoy more about this episode was the new characters and the new subplot that’s developing here. First off we have the current Student Council President, Yamazaki Haruma (Fukuyama Jun), who only gives girl the time of day. There’s definitely something off about him, and that doesn’t disappear after this little trial was complete. Odagiri Nene (Kitamura Eri) and her sidekick, Igarashi Ushio (Ono Daisuke), also get their proper introduction after their brief appearance last episode. Odagiri, it turns out, is battling for the title of the Student Council President after Yamazaki retires, and this trial was one of those attempts to see who was worthy of eventually getting the spot. Igarashi is just tagging along, but there seems to be some history between him and Yamada that may get explored down the line. Don’t be surprised if you see these faces quite a lot from here on out, especially Odagiri – they’re here to stay.

She Totally Likes Him!:

I hope you’re aboard this ship, because SS Shiraishi x Yamada is ready to set sail. It was apparent last week, but Shiraishi’s affection for Yamada lacked subtlety this time around. Her smiling and blushing has to be the best part of the episode, even if the college storyline wasn’t that well-executed. The fact that she would pursue further education if it meant being with Yamada, well, I think that’s proof in itself that there’s a real opportunity for romance to blossom here.

Overview – What’s Next?:

We got to see Shiraishi’s painful smile throughout her childhood, and her empty house, which are hints to what she’s hiding, but the resolution to the college dilemma wasn’t as enjoyable as I would have liked it to be. However, I am looking forward to next week’s episode. If my memory of what’s coming is correct then this trip will be a good one. The preview was packed with lots of moments that might catch your attention, but I think it’s a good time to start the ‘Seven Witches’ part of ‘Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches’.

P.S – It was nice seeing the main character of Yankee-kun to Megane-chan in the first scene. In case anyone didn’t know, this guy is from the mangaka’s series before Yamada-kun, and it’s a fun read.

  1. I’m so torn. I want to watch it in motion but after the first episode I went ahead and got my hands on the manga and read up till current. On one hand I doubt they’ll actually get anywhere with this but on the other I know that it’s all pretty consistently hilarious even though it might not get anywhere. Might leave this alone till it’s all aired.

    1. I wonder why they didn’t made Yankee-kun into an anime.
Though there’s live action one, but anime is easier to make as long as the manga is completely finished. So it’s odd Yamada and 7 witches are animated 1st despite being 2nd manga made by the author.
Not that I’m complaining…I love watching the Supernatural Studies Club arc that are comprised by quirky characters, especially Miyamura still being a calm pervert. lol

  3. Well not as impressively funny as the previous 2, but it’s nice to see the romance development between Shiraishi and Yamada though he’s still obsessive in getting another microwave for now.

And like always this episode has 80% original anime content despite Shiraishi’s college admission issues are from the manga.

So likewise I feel that the studio are very daring to try jumbling the arc a lot as seen in next episode’s preview…

  5. I don’t think her decision was rushed. When you really like someone and you feel as lonely as she did, you’d do anything for them, especially when they want to join you on your journey. Great anime ..really like it!

Hnnngh! Oh my heart. That was a brilliantly cute moment. Urara is best girl. Best girl!

The funny thing is Yamada literally confessed to her in one sense yet the consequences of that didn’t seem to fully dawn upon him what he just did. The ship is sailing well with strong winds. Not sure if any other ship in the series can top this.

I tend not to overthink about a series like this since there’s a lot of predictability, fluff and humor going on. It could use a little more depth in character development though, but I’m not sure everyone’s watching this for a great amount of depth.

They are really moving it ahead, so the challenge of keeping things fun and interesting is still very real after they seemingly toned things down this episode. Well, should be more body swapping fun next episode anyway.
