「お稲荷さま。電話をかける」 (Oinari-sama. Denwa wo Kakeru)
“Oinari-sama. Makes a Phone Call”

Episode at a Glance:
After Noboru tries to teach Kuugen how to call his cellphone yet again, Kou accepts a package that’s marked for Tooru. Inside, they find a small white-haired girl wrapped in bandages, who’s asleep and doesn’t appear to be a vengeful spirit or a human. Seeing this, Haruki names her Shiro-chan because she’s all white, while Kuugen suggests refraining from removing her bandages until they know more about what/who she is. The next day at his baseball game, Tooru ends up speaking to a blonde boy, who asks if he’s seen a young girl covered in tattoos in the past few days. After saying he hasn’t, Tooru is surprised to find out that this seemingly unhuman person knows about Kuugen as well. On their way home, Noboru and Kou run into a large-busted woman who’s looking for the same girl, but also say they haven’t seen her. Back at home, Kou notices that the flour/powder she spread through the house is glowing, indicating that someone is moving about inside. Upstairs, she finds Shiro collapsed in the hallway, after which, her and Noboru try to talk to her when she’s awake. However, she doesn’t respond to either of them, but smiles when Tooru returns home. Seeing this, Noboru deems his younger brother the person in charge of taking care of her.

Elsewhere, Enju is wondering why her package still hasn’t arrived, and finds out from her servant that it’s been delivered to Takagami Tooru, who’s brother is heir of the Midzuchis, and is being protected by Tenko Kuugen. At school the next day, Noboru promises to walk home with Misaki after badminton practice, but gets a strange note from “Miyabe” to meet him by the gymnasium. There, he expects the school idol, but gets abducted by Enju’s servant Miyabe instead. Haruki then receives mail from supposedly Noboru, saying he’ll be staying at a friend’s tonight, but Kuugen thinks something is up. Casting a spell, she makes contact with Enju, and they agree to make a trade tomorrow at noon at a church – Noboru for Shiro – but Kuugen has to come alone. Meanwhile, Misaki is walking home alone wondering why she waited so long for Noboru to show up.

Impressions:
Hmm, with the number of new characters introduced in this episode, I found it a bit difficult to figure out what to expect from each of them. With both Tsukuyomi and Berika seeking Shiro, it’s hard to tell what their intentions are at this point. Seiyuu-wise, they’re played by Kugimiya Rie (Shana in Shakugan no Shana, Louise in Zero no Tsukaima, Rokujou Miharu in Nabari no Ou) and Asano Masumi (Chiaki in Shigofumi) respectively, so I expect them to play a more prominent role later on. In addition, Enju’s generic-looking servent, Tomine, who reported all the information on the Takagamis, is played by Okiayu Ryoutarou (Kuchiki Byakuya in Bleach, Andrew Waltfeld in Gundam SEED), which makes me believe there may be more to him as well. I’m pretty curious about what Shiro’s body contains, being covered by bandages all this time, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Speaking of Shiro, her cute interactions with Tooru were enjoyable to watch, so I’m looking forward to seeing more of her next time too.

  1. @nobody important
Kuu mention that the cloth being used seals the entity. Therefore, she advises not to do anything as they do not know what this entity is (neither a human nor a “youkai”).
