Nothing much to say about this chapter in particular – it’s primarily a set-up for the altercation between Tsuna and the Vindice, so my guess is that next chapter will offer more in terms of discussable content. The decoys were definitely a surprise though, and seeing strategies come to life is always an enjoyable aspect since it displays a different sort of strength compared to pure fighting. Vongola’s geniuses certainly pulled through with their life-like dummies, and I have to say seeing Gokudera get beheaded gave me quite a shock at first.
Another thing that caught me off-guard was the trio of Basil, Tsuna, and Enma. It was… not quite what I was expecting in terms of mini-teams formed to take on the opposition, reason being I’m not entirely sure about Basil – he’s definitely not a weak character by any means, and he’s more than proved his mettle on multiple occasions, but as bosses of their respective famiglia, Tsuna and Enma’s strength operate on a different level (plot armor may or may not be included in this assumption). On many levels it’s a team that makes sense, given their age, the ability to conjure the Dying Will flame on their foreheads, etc; I guess I just always forget about Basil for some odd reason…
This does raise the question of the other two “teams” that will take on the remaining Vindice – and given how many characters are in the KHR! cast, any combination is possible, really. Personally I’d prefer it if Amano Akira would forgo the “predictable” combinations like Gokudera/Yamamoto/Extra Person, Xanxus/Squalo, etc, etc. A little variation and mixing of the different famiglia would be really nice, since it’s pretty rare to have a chance for such a diverse range of interactions from everybody. Personally, I’d be pretty invested in seeing a team consisting of Squalo and Dino, or Squalo and Yamamoto since there’s real potential for some laughs right there. The latter match-up will also provide some nice showcase of action from the mafia world’s two best swordsmen, and the former is a match-up that I’m surprised hasn’t been seen more often. If I remember correctly, Squalo and Dino attended school together, so it’s not a complete stretch to have them work together. Their fighting styles have the possibility to complement each other as well, so there’s potential for some action, too. A team of Hibari and Ryohei might be pretty interesting too, actually. It probably won’t be very productive, but it’d certainly draw a few good laughs. It probably won’t induce the same sort of frustration as a team consisting of Hibari and Gokudera, at the very least.
Whatever the case, the element of surprise will probably wear off pretty fast, especially with such an overpowered a strong opponent like Jager. But there’s strength in numbers, so we’ll see how it goes next week, hopefully.
If I remember correctly, Basil’s box weapon (the dolphin) can coordinate other box weapons increasing their attack power, so using him with Tsuna and Enma could be a move to oneshot the Vindice.
Basil’s appearance is quite surprising, but a good surprise actually- I remember team CEDEF talking about Basil’s improvement/upgrade to fight Tsuna back in the start, before the actual fights started
So I guess it’s a good time to see what was that about since we haven’t actually seen Basil in proper action thanks to Vindice’s attack to the Iemitsu :/
Hmm, the fact that Basil is actively participating in the battle means that he has received one of the battler watches from Tsuna. He was previously on Colonello’s team, which was eliminated, so he could not interfere otherwise. The same goes for Enma.
So Tsuna’s team probably consists of the following fighters: Tsuna, Enma, Basil, Byakuran, Xanxus, and Mukuro.
My guess is that he could not convince Hibari to join him, yet. Maybe he will step in later when it appears that Basil is unable to win.
I knew something was off when Tsuna’s team split into 3. It would be stupid to do that in the first place and am pleasantly surprise by this new development.
Last page is possibly one of my favourite moments in KHR! ahh i love all three characters.
There better be some awesome ambushes waiting for the Vindice. All grown-up versions of the Arcobaleno standing together – WOW!
I think that’s either a redraw or a fanart – I was kind of thrown off by that page since it’s clearly the last page of some chapter, but it’s placed at the beginning and if you look closely, the Arcobaleno look a little… off.
It could still be official, but I’m inclined to lean more towards fan work for now.
It would be, but it would be great to see such an impressive group of strong fighters standing like that again for the story.
And I speculate that they will have to for Checker-face.
