「ナツ vs. 双竜」 (Natsu vs. Souryuu)
“Natsu vs. the Twin Dragons”
The fact that this show reached its end does not surprise me considering how close to the manga it is at this point. I do think that the ending point was quite bad though. Well, to be honest, it’s not really bad, but rather abrupt and sudden. It’s frustrating to see an anime end in the middle of an arc. It’s hard to say what will happen from now on, but this is most likely not the end. I’m not even sure why I mentioned that considering that this ended with a “To be continued” screen. The question is, when will it continue? I assume it’s not any time soon but hopefully not too far away. It would be nice to see the rest of this arc animated fairly soon when it has been completed in the manga. I wonder if that’s what they’ll do, or if they’re going to wait for the manga to go even further than that so there can be another long running TV show for this amazing series? I guess all we have to do for now is to wait and see. Luckily we have the manga so we don’t have to deal with this painful cliffhanger. It’s definitely a cruel and frustrating ending, and I really recommend all the anime-only fans to pick up the source material, unless you are able to deal with this (I would probably have died).
Anyway, FAIRY TAIL is now over, at least this TV series. As far as I know, there will be a rerun of this under a different name. I still do not know why the title has been changed but I intend to check the first episode out to see if there are any significant differences compared to the original. Although, I kind of doubt that, but we’ll see. FAIRY TAIL BEST! is the new title, so check it out.
So how was this finale? Frustrating if you ask me! It would’ve been a great end point if it wasn’t for that annoying ending that leaves you wanting more. This was a rather mean way to end an anime at such an exhilarating moment. Now that FAIRY TAIL is finally in the lead, after such a long time, they presented to us, a very devastating future narrated by Levy (she has been doing that throughout the entire arc), a cloaked person’s identity revealed but at the same time hidden, and dragons are involved. It’s cruel, but I really hope that the wait will be worth it. And who knows? What if the continuation to this will do the source material more justice? I hope for that. And with that I’m referring to the animation of this show, and the censorship.
Leaving the cruelty behind the incomplete ending, the episode itself was magnificent and precisely what I expected from a battle between Dragon Slayers. Words aren’t enough to describe how much I love Natsu as a character. He may be ridiculously overpowered to some, but to me, he is only heroic. He has been mocked in this tournament. His friends have been stepped on. His guild has suffered. It was nice to see how he brought glory back to his home by defeating two of the strongest members of the most annoying guild ever. It’s also nice to see how Sting and Rogue, despite training for seven years while Natsu was gone, couldn’t defeat a single beat-up Dragon Slayer. That shows how powerful Natsu is. And the fun thing is, he wasn’t even using his full power. I mean, come on, we’ve seen him do more than that! Sting and Rogue definitely underestimated their opponents. Just imagine what would’ve happened if Gajeel still would be on stage? Sabertooth is toast!
With this spectacular battle, glorious victory, and triumphant comeback, the FAIRY TAIL anime has reached its temporary end. I am very sad to see one of my favourite shows ending. I cried so much during this finale and I know I’ll miss this show very much. But luckily, this isn’t the end so I look forward to more FAIRY TAIL in the future. Until then, moete kitazou!

Note: I wish to thank my beloved Moomba for saving my time by helping me with the caps and the soundtrack! ♥
Epilogue:
End Card
Final impressions:
This is going to be very long because I am a crazy fangirl who loves FAIRY TAIL a bit too much. I’ve split this up so I can write a bit about each arc, as well as the series as a whole. Feel free to exclude whatever you’re not interested in.
Story
Show Spoiler ▼
The story of FAIRY TAIL may not be the strongest one, especially not in shounen history, but still, it is insanely likeable because of the diversity we find in it. Unlike some other long ongoing series, FAIRY TAIL has different styles in every arc. While there are some key elements and reappearing villains/characters, there is some sort of uniqueness to each and every part of the story, and that prevents you from losing interest. Also, this series has great comedy, mainly due to the fantastic characters of it. I have never come across a boring episode of this show and I’m being completely honest here. At some points, some events can seem a bit dragged out but still, they’re never uninteresting because there is always something else to make up for the less better parts. And to me, this balance between story, comedy, and characters is what makes this series stand out among the popular shounen titles, and it will also be what it’s going to be remembered for (at least according to me).
Like most shounen, and basically two thirds of all anime if not more, the nakama (companionship) theme is one that keeps the story moving. To me, no other series displays the importance of friends as well as FAIRY TAIL does, and that is just one of the many things that make this anime so wonderful. Perhaps the friendship theme has been recycled a lot and is therefore filled with clichés. But there is a reason why it has been used so much – it’s appreciated and enjoyable. Also, who doesn’t find it encouraging watching people support each other regardless of the situation? I find the nakama theme insanely encouraging and very heroic. I admire characters who can stand up for what they believe is right, and I respect them a lot, even if they do seem naïve and childish. FAIRY TAIL may be filled with predictable outcomes, one-sided battles, and recycled themes, but these are all great elements that are worth encouraging and they make this anime’s story as strong as it is.
Something I like very much about this series is that all characters are given time to grow. Even though we have two strong characters like Erza and Natsu, the story doesn’t focus on them entirely. There are so many characters in FAIRY TAIL that it’s almost impossible to count them without using a list; and each and every one of them has some sort of importance and relevance to the story. I love that about this franchise quite a lot. No one is left out and everyone has a purpose. And all these various personalities bring so much entertainment and value to the show so it never gets boring. All characters are unique, and there is something very special about all of them. It’s really easy to get attached to the characters of this show and I am so sad that I won’t be able to see them animated for a while now. It’s a good thing I can watch this over and over again but still… Oh well, luckily there is a manga.
I’m noticing that I’m having some issues summarising my thoughts on 175 episodes, so I’m actually going to split this down into final impressions of each and every arc. Call me insane, but this is all part of being a crazy fangirl!
Macao arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
The Macao arc doesn’t really bring much value to the story as a whole but it’s still one of the most important ones because it’s the introduction to our main two characters – Lucy and Natsu. I still remember when I saw the first episode and how much fun I had watching it. It was hard for me to get used to the different art style in the anime at first (the characters were slightly slimmer in the manga during that time), but it didn’t take too long for things to feel natural. The Macao arc is basically FAIRY TAIL’s first impressions and I must say, they were great. I really enjoyed seeing a shounen kicking off with comedy instead of a serious plot twist. It was a silly and light hearted introduction to a fun ride.
Something else worth mentioning about this arc is how it portrayed Natsu’s love for friends quite early on. Right from the start, I knew I was going to respect Natsu throughout the entire series, and look where I am now – he is my all time favourite anime character! In this arc, we were given a chance to see Natsu stand up for a stranger he didn’t know, and then we were shown how he struggled for a friend when everyone else had given up (helping Romeo find his father). The first arc of FAIRY TAIL was definitely short but it left me thinking that I had picked up a very interesting series.
Daybreak arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
Another short arc is the Daybreak one. Despite being one of the earlier and supposedly less memorable arcs, I actually recall this one very well. Perhaps because my avatar comes from it? Well, I don’t think it comes as a surprise to my readers that I am a crazy Natsu x Lucy fan, so this arc is definitely a favourite. I loved seeing how Lucy and Natsu’s friendship developed into some sort of partnership. Seeing the two of them take on their first job together was definitely fun to watch. Both of them are quite silly but they always do well when they’re together. I believe this was the arc when I first started shipping the two of them. Aside from that, we also learned a bit more about Lucy and her strength in battles. Anyway, there isn’t much to say about this arc, nin-nin!
Lullaby arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
Ah, the first longer arc, but not quite as long as some other ones! This arc had quite uninteresting villains, in my opinion that is, but it’s still a very memorable arc because I believe this was the first time we saw Erza. I also remember that we saw Gray properly in this arc. He had been introduced before but we saw him as a part of the team in this arc for the first time, didn’t we?
The Lullaby arc allowed us to get to know our main characters and how they work – and they work quite… well? I don’t know, but all I remember is that I found myself having cramps because I laughed too much while watching this. Something else quite interesting about this arc was that we could learn a bit more about other magi and the guild system. It’s nice to see that there aren’t just good vs. evil. I like it when there is just one source of power and then you can choose whether or not you wish to use it for good or bad things. Everyone is a mage, but their personalities and ideologies are what separate them. Everyone has equal rights to begin with and are looked at in the same way. I enjoy that a lot, and it’s also very useful when you wish to change a villain into a good guy. It may be simple but very entertaining. The Lullaby arc definitely brought value to the story.
Galuna Island arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
Oh, this arc! I remember this one very well. This arc allowed us to see more about Gray who somehow was just thrown into the story as some sort of rival of Natsu. I really enjoyed this arc because of that. The story about two boys growing up together with one trainer who later sacrificed herself to save everyone was very sweet. I loved seeing how Lyon was introduced as a villain only to end up becoming one of the good guys later. It’s always interesting to see how two characters with the same conditions can develop into such different people.
Aside from Gray’s character development, this arc also had a lot of comedy. I still remember Erza screaming “Kya!” while falling down in an obvious trap made by Lucy. Ah, that was hilarious! Anyway, to me, the main point of this arc seemed to be the character development of Gray, so what to say? It was a successful arc!
Phantom Lord arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This arc was the first one I truly loved. There was nothing that wasn’t brilliant in this. I loved how Lucy’s father hired an evil guild to ruin FAIRY TAIL. I remember I loved all the battles in this arc, namely the one where Juvia was defeated by Gray. I also loved Gajeel’s introduction. It’s kind of funny that I ship Gajeel with Levy considering what he did to her and the rest of her team in this arc.
Going back to Juvia, I really loved her introduction. She caught my attention the first time I saw her and I still love her, so very much. She was the most interesting character of this arc to me. Her personality was, and still is, a very unique one to this series. She is a crazy fangirl (hmm, sounds like me), who could do anything for the one she loves (that sounds a bit like me too – this is scary). While most of the characters in FAIRY TAIL fight for the honour of their guild, their friends, what’s right/fair, she is the only one who fights for love – the romantic kind. Her personality was definitely needed and I really love her as a character.
Aside from the many interesting character introductions and battles of this arc, what made it stand out so much was how FAIRY TAIL, despite the damage that had been done to them, managed to stand up and take their guild back. This arc truly showed how much nakama means to these people. And it was great to see that it was just not limited to the main teams, but the entire guild. We were given a chance to see everyone work together for the same goal and that was truly something epic. I love seeing many people work hard to achieve the same thing together. Overcoming hardships with your friends is truly something amazing. And let’s not forget that the battle between these two guilds wasn’t the only thing this arc centred on. We were slowly introduced to Lucy’s past which was very interesting considering that she is the main character of this show! I definitely enjoyed this arc, no wait, I loved it!
Loke arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
The Loke arc felt quite random to me when it first began but I started liking it quite quickly. The reason why it felt random was that Loke himself seemed like an irrelevant character earlier on but as I mentioned earlier, every character in FAIRY TAIL has some sort of importance in the story. I loved seeing how deep Loke was a character compared to what we were used to see him as. His past was very different from what I had expected but that only shows how strong he must be to be able to hide such a thing from his friends.
I also loved how Lucy was portrayed in this arc. Her compassion and kindness truly stood out and I’m glad the stellar spirits can see her greatness. Seeing how she saved Loke from his misery made me really happy because he had no reason to suffer and it was good for Lucy’s character development. If I’m not entirely wrong, there is a ship based on this arc, but I’m a biased person so let’s sink that one!
Tower of Heaven arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This arc is one of the most memorable ones because it brought us themes that are reoccurring in the show. Not only did it introduce us to Erza’s tragic past, it also allowed us to meet the very famous Jellal whose face we’ll never grow tired of. Jokes aside, this arc was a very emotional one. Erza who is considered to be a strong and fierce woman was shown as an emotionally unstable person affected by her past. I liked seeing her being weak. Even the strongest people have their weaknesses and FAIRY TAIL did very well in portraying that. I loved seeing Erza being torn between friends and what’s right. What if you’re stuck in the middle? Is it okay to sacrifice one for the other? It was nice to see our heroic characters deal with this dilemma.
Aside from Erza’s past and her emotional development, it was also quite nice to see how dark and devastating Zeref’s magic truly is. Oh hey, another reoccurring theme! Zeref’s magic is still quite mysterious to me and it saddens me that we never properly got to learn about him in this series. Oh well, there isn’t much to do given how close to the manga the anime is.
Erza was definitely the centre of attention in this arc, but I do believe that the Magic Council had an important role in this too. We got to see their attitude towards things and how powerless they can be sometimes. Aside from that, Natsu developed a lot. Despite always being portrayed as a strong Dragon Slayer, Natsu turned out to be quite weak in this episode. Still, he managed to defeat Jellal by risking himself for his friends. That shows how much Natsu cares about his friends and what a great character he is. While sacrificing is sad, it’s truly heroic and noble and I respected Natsu so much. And speaking of sacrifice, let’s not forget that there was a character death in this arc – which is something rare in this show. Simon’s sacrifice was very emotional and very sad. It showed us a new side to Erza. This arc was truly an emotional ride and it brought up a lot of good question concerning doing what you want vs. doing what you should. I really enjoyed it, and I thought it was one of FAIRY TAIL’s more complex arcs considering what kind of character Jellal is.
Fighting Festival arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
The Fighting Festival arc was a very unique and interesting arc. It went completely against the normal principles of FAIRY TAIL. The nakama concept was used against itself which was very interesting to see. I really enjoyed seeing one of the guild members being portrayed as evil despite having “good” intentions. It was also fun to see some new characters that were connected with Laxus such as the Raijinshuu. The three of them have certainly made the series a lot more interesting, especially Evergreen. I’m totally not saying that because I ship her with Elfman or anything, nope, absolutely not.
This arc allowed us to see what characters were close to each other aside from our main team. I really loved seeing how Alzack went against his own friends for his beloved Bisca. It showed us that even though they are a guild, there are some bonds that matter more than FAIRY TAIL. It’s great to know that despite all the nakama talk, there are some people who know how to be selfish. Not everyone in FAIRY TAIL is a hero, and that is completely fine with me. Some diversity is always appreciated.
Aside from the morality of the characters, we were also given a chance to learn about Laxus as a character and his relationship with Makarov. I always wanted to learn more about them so this arc answered many questions. It’s interesting to see how one of the good characters suddenly became “evil” in this arc while the opposite happened for another. If I remember correctly, Gajeel and Juvia returned sometime during this arc as members of FAIRY TAIL. And not only did Gajeel join the good side, he also sacrificed himself by standing up for Levy and taking hits for her. That showed us how people can change, and I think that was very sweet. Cliché or not, I always find encouraging moments very heart warming and FAIRY TAIL has loads of them!
With this arc, I guess we got a good picture of FAIRY TAIL as a whole. Even though the guild itself is good, its members have flaws and that shows that heroes aren’t perfect. Even the kindest people aren’t flawless and I love that we were able to see some negative sides to our beloved characters too. The most powerful thing about this arc was probably Makarov’s decision at the end concerning Laxus position in the guild. I remember I was crying a lot when Laxus had to go but I thought it was the fair thing to do. Much like the Alzack example earlier, this shows that there are people who can act like villains to do what’s right. There are various kinds of personalities in FAIRY TAIL, all have their greatness and flaws, but that’s what makes that guild so loveable!
Oración Seis arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This arc would’ve been my least favourite one if it weren’t for the teamwork between the various guilds. I remember I thought that the villains in this arc were quite stereotypical and dull. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the arc though. I’m just comparing it with the other ones in this series, therefore, it’s not my favourite one.
Oración Seis were quite simpleminded villains. I do admit, I enjoyed seeing Angel fight Lucy – that battle was magnificent, but aside from that, the other ones were quite predictable and simple. I loved seeing guilds work together to defeat a bunch of enemies. Even though I love FAIRY TAIL from the bottom of my heart, a show about guilds should focus on more than one, so it was only about time to allow some other guilds to shine. It was truly nice to see Lyon back again in a decent guild. I also really enjoyed seeing Blue Pegasus. Their introduction was hilarious. But the most important introduction of this arc is probably Wendy’s. I have praised her several times in my previous posts and I will do it again.
Wendy as a character is truly amazing. She showed up as a timid little girl but has grown so much. Now she is a humble but strong warrior. I absolutely adore Wendy, and I imagine she’ll be even more brilliant when she grows up. If I’m not mistaken, Wendy is the only female Dragon Slayer we’ve seen so far, which is quite surprising. I hope to see more girls among the Dragon Slayers in the future.
Anyway, introductions aside, Jellal returned in this arc and we were shown the good side of him, or the true him. I was rather sad to see Erza’s heart being torn again over seeing him being taken into custody, but at the same time, that seemed like the reasonable thing to do. At least he helped FAIRY TAIL stop Oración Seis from using Nirvana. I guess this arc had memorable characters but less memorable plot.
Daphne arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This was the first filler arc of FAIRY TAIL. At first, I didn’t even notice that it was an original one and I doubt I ever would’ve if I didn’t read the manga. I remember I found Daphne to be quite strange but I liked her. The dragon themed arc was certainly very entertaining and it seemed like it was meant for all the fangirls. We had Gray and Juvia performing a Unison Raid together, which was absolutely glorious. I still remember that I had goosebumps all over while watching that scene.
There isn’t much to say about this filler arc aside from the fact that it was well written and nicely placed. It didn’t feel too random or unplanned. It fit the story and the length of it was quite decent.
Edolas arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
The Edolas arc is said to be the most popular one of this series. To me, it is definitely one of the best ones but not my favourite. I do admit, it was the most exciting one so far. This had so many new things and a whole new world to explore. I loved seeing a mirrored version of Earthland where literally, everything was mirrored – even personalities! A grown up Wendy, a fully clothed Gray, an evil Erza, a Natsu who loves vehicles – everything was insane, in a good way of course.
Something else that I found really fascinating was the Exceeds’ story. I loved seeing their true purpose and it was nice to revisit Happy’s home. It was quite entertaining to see how FAIRY TAIL worked with their mirrored opposites to get back to their world. But what really amazed me in this arc was the idea of stealing magic from another world. Edolas is not a nice place, is it? Good thing we have Mystogan! Because everyone is somehow Jellal, it was only about time to get rid of one of them – Mystogan.
I liked seeing how Mystogan developed as a character. It was getting frustrating to see him being one of the highest ranked members of FAIRY TAIL without actually knowing anything about him. I’m a bit sad that his story ended in one arc but it was a great way to say goodbye to his character (but not his face). Something else that might be of interest is the fact that Lisanna returned. I’m not sure if I’m happy about that or not, but so far she hasn’t been affecting me at all. I just hope she doesn’t get in the way of my Lucy and Natsu ship. Nope, I’m not being biased or anything. Stop staring at me!
Even though the Edolas arc was intriguing and very exciting, I don’t have too much to write about it. All I can say is that you have to see it to understand how great it is. There is just something about it that keeps you hooked. All the battles are inviting, and the arc is very unique compared to anything else you’ve seen in FAIRY TAIL. I remember a lot of new tracks were introduced in this arc as well which made the fights even more exhilarating than they already were! The Edolas arc is definitely one of the strongest ones of this show and I can see why it’s the most popular one so far.
Tenrou Island arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
For some reason, I started blogging FAIRY TAIL here on Random Curiosity at this arc’s ending. I have no idea why I did that but I do not regret picking up this show here, not ever! This is the longest arc of FAIRY TAIL and it’s one that changed many things. First of all, it made way for a lot of potential romance such as Elfman and Evergreen etc. This arc also showed us very different sides to the characters we are so used to seeing.
We saw Natsu face fear for the first time – and he actually gave up. We saw Cana reveal a huge plot bomb – Gildarts is her father. But the most important thing of them all, all three masters of FAIRY TAIL were gathered on one island. We had Hades, Makarov, and of course – Mavis. It was interesting to see how someone who had been the leader of such a joyful guild could’ve become someone so cruel and brutal. But he was definitely a good villain and I loved seeing the FAIRY TAIL vs. Hades battle.
I enjoyed seeing how everyone was unable to defeat the master but together using their combined strength managed to take him and his ship down. Aside from them, Gray faced Ultear and I believe his battle against her was the only one in the entire show that contained some form of blood! Frozen of course! It was interesting to see so many different enemies from various places attacking FAIRY TAIL together at once. It was unfair but I’m happy to see that FAIRY TAIL managed to successfully defeat everyone.
Zeref returned in this arc, and this time in person. I’m a bit sad there isn’t much to say about him except the fact that he obviously has something to do with Natsu. What’s even more interesting is that he can control a devastating dragon called Acnologia. It’s frustrating that we won’t be seeing the continuation to this any time soon.
Anyway, this arc was filled with action, emotions, and revelations, and personally, this is my favourite arc because it shows how everyone comes together while facing danger. I remember I cried a lot while watching FAIRY TAIL sink while holding hands. It was a powerful scene that showed that no matter what, the guild members will always stand together, even in the face of death. That arc ending still gives me the chills.
X791 arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This arc is, well, there isn’t much to say about it. It was a very short one that allowed us to see how much the world changed while FAIRY TAIL was gone, well, at least, its main members. I thought it was interesting to see how much everyone had grown and what had become of Fiore. It was saddening to see that FAIRY TAIL, despite having strong magi, turned out to be so weak without our main teams. Luckily, Mavis saved them all and they were back.
The thing that truly left an impression on me in this arc was Romeo and Natsu’s reunion. It was a brotherly one but so heart warming and sweet. It was also quite interesting to see how Alzack and Bisca finally got married and also had a daughter. I do find Asuka insanely adorable. This arc, while being ridiculously short, brought quite a lot of value to the story because it made way for the final (current) arc which has a setting based on the time skip from this one.
Key of the Starry Sky arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This is the first long filler arc of FAIRY TAIL. I was a bit horrified when I heard that the first thing I’d be covering from this was supposed to be a filler arc, but wow, this blew my mind. This story may be original but it’s as if it’s part of the manga series itself. I mean, everything was written in a way so it would connect with everything else. Even though this story was a filler one, it felt relevant and it picked up pieces from old arcs in a way that made it seem like Mashima himself wrote this. Who knows? Maybe he did? I’ve seen on various sites that it is said that Mashima has done some work behind this arc, but so far, I don’t have anything that confirms it. Links are appreciated!
Anyway, to spare you some pain, I will not write too much about this arc because I have actually already shared my final impressions of it. You can read them over here if you’re interested. If not, let’s move on to the current and final arc!
Grand Magic Games arc:
Show Spoiler ▼
This is the final and current arc of this series. It is the ongoing arc of the manga, and it is definitely the most complex one we’ve come across so far, if you ask me that is. I do not think it’s complex as in difficult to understand, but there is a lot of information to take in. While old questions are answered, new ones show up in every episode. I do like how there are several new guilds in this arc. It’s also nice to see that Ivan plays a role in the story again, so Gajeel acting as a double agent did not go to waste!
I loved seeing Sabertooth even though I absolutely cannot stand the attitude in that guild. They were created to be defeated. I like when villains are easy to loathe because that makes their defeat so much more enjoyable. Mashima did very well when he created that nasty guild, especially Minerva.
Even if Sabertooth was created to be defeated, I liked seeing how strong they were at the beginning. I also enjoyed seeing FAIRY TAIL at the bottom, however, I do not appreciate Lucy facing unfair opponents all the time. She is strong but appears to be weak because of how unfair Mashima is to her. I wish her potential would be used in fair battles. She deserves so much better. Anyway, seeing FAIRY TAIL at the bottom was certainly a nice twist. It was interesting to see them slowly climb their way up and prove to everyone that they’re still the best. As a huge fan of the guild itself, I couldn’t have been happier with the results we saw in this finale.
While this arc, and this anime, ended with a brutal cliffhanger, it was nice to see the show ending with FAIRY TAIL being in the lead again. They truly deserve being on top because they’ve earned it. Erza, Cana, Natsu, Elfman, Mirajane – and even the other members who did not end up in first place – did very well. FAIRY TAIL is the strongest guild there is and hopefully nothing will change that.
It’s kind of difficult to leave final impressions on this arc because it’s not even finished yet. So like this show, I’ll leave this paragraph slightly incomplete.
Characters:
Oh boy, where do I start? First of all, if you read all that nonsense I wrote, here, have a cookie! If not – oh well, you can still have a cookie! So, characters… It’s funny that I find it so hard to express myself when I write about the characters of FAIRY TAIL considering the fact that they are the reason why I love FAIRY TAIL as much as I do. To me, the plot of this series is entertaining but not the strongest one there is, however, the characters are brilliant and have such outstanding personalities that the show simply seems amazing and I just disregard all its flaws (yes, I admit, there are some flaws). Hmm, now that I’ve mentioned flaws, I feel like I should explain them. To keep it short, I think some of the characters didn’t get the treatment they deserved and that’s the only major thing I can complain about really.
Anyway, FAIRY TAIL has a lot of characters and I don’t intend to write about all of them. I’ll just write briefly about the main ones.
Lucy Heartfilia ▼
It’s only natural for me to pick my favourite team. I don’t have much energy left so I only intend to write about them. Team Natsu is, I don’t know – awesome? How do I even write about them? Let’s start with Lucy. Lucy is a character we’ve been with from the beginning to end. She has been the centre of attention throughout the entire series. Her characters development could’ve been better, but she has come very far compared to who she was when we first saw her. From a young and timid child to a strong and independent woman. Lucy is definitely what a heroine should be like, admirable and humble. There is only one thing that I find slightly annoying about her, and it’s the way she is treated by Mashima. Lucy is strong and capable of defeating villains but is always thrown at the ridiculously overpowered ones. She appears to be weak when she isn’t. I wish the series would do her more justice considering what a great character she is and what kind of power she possesses.
Gray Fullbuster ▼
On to Gray, the cool guy. Okay, I should stop making puns because apparently I’m not funny. Gray to me is an amusing character, but he doesn’t stand out very much in contrast to Natsu. I feel like he was created to be an eyesore to Natsu, which is completely fine with me because the two of them arguing is quite fun to watch. However, I can easily say that Gray is my least favourite out of the main team, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t like him. I find him insanely likeable and entertaining. I wish he’d look at Juvia at some point…
Erza Scarlet ▼
Erza, the titania, wow, how do you even write about her? She is simply too cool for words. I always found Erza insanely attractive and admirable. She is everything I respect. She is strong but doesn’t look down on others. She is humble, caring, and kind. She knows how to treat others. And what I love more than anything about her is that despite having such insane powers, she can also be very vulnerable. Sometimes, I just wish I could reach out and hug her. Erza is truly a magnificent character who has one of the strongest personalities I’ve ever come across in a shounen series.
Wendy Marvell ▼
Wendy should probably have her own section but I have written about her already in the Oración Seis section so there isn’t too much left to say about her. As I’ve said before, she is the character that I think has grown more than anyone else in the entire series. Her personality may be unchanged but her strength is so great now. She has come a long way and still has a long way left to go. I look forward to seeing her development.
Natsu Dragneel ▼
Natsu is my all time favourite anime character. There aren’t enough words to describe my love for him. He is quite like Erza, he is strong, holds a lot of power, but he uses them for good. Natsu is kind, caring, and he is always fair. He stands up for the weak, he is truly what a hero should be like. But that’s not enough. He is also very entertaining, and he is always honest. I enjoy watching a character who has an admirable personality but can also be very funny at some points. I just, ah, I can’t even find the words. Natsu is simply a character that I really respect. Ever since I saw him in the first episode, I thought he seemed really heroic, but at the same time, he wasn’t the kind of person who wants to be a hero or anything. He simply does what he can when the situation calls for it. He doesn’t try too hard, doesn’t seek the attention or glory. His kindness is simply natural. I don’t know if that makes any sense but I just love Natsu. That’s all I have to say.
Animation:
Okay, I don’t think it’s deniable that FAIRY TAIL’s animation is bad. I don’t know why A-1’s budget is so low for a popular series like this one, but it makes me insanely sad. This show deserved better. I do not wish to bash other shounen titles but I find it questionable that some certain anime which are clearly less appreciated than FAIRY TAIL have such amazing animation while this one has… how to say it? Terrible animation?
I know that a lot of fans were scared or bored by the low quality of this show which is quite saddening considering what they’re missing out on. Even though I do admit that the animation is painfully bad at some points, I do not think that affects the quality of the story and the anime is still enjoyable and entertaining to me. I honestly hope that the continuation of FAIRY TAIL will have better animation, and hopefully less censorship. I guess that’s my only major complaint.
Sound:
I’ve reached the last section of this insanely long and nonsensical post. Oh what, you’re still reading? Don’t you have better things to do? And here I thought I was a no-lifer! Anyway, what I truly wish to praise this anime for is its wonderful soundtrack.
Takanashi Yasuharu, that man is a genius. Words aren’t enough to describe how amazing the FAIRY TAIL soundtracks are. Even if the quality of the show is low, the music always had me hooked. There is just something enthralling about the tracks. No matter what kind of scene it is, the music always fit the mood. And FAIRY TAIL’s soundtrack is not only good for the show, it’s also a soundtrack I love listening to during my free time. The Celtic folk rock mixed with classic orchestral pieces is simply magic to my ears. If you haven’t listened to the FAIRY TAIL soundtrack yet, please do. It is my favourite soundtrack and I doubt that will ever change. I have included some of my favourite tracks here so feel free to listen.

As for the openings and endings, FAIRY TAIL has not really had too many impressive songs, but I do admit, there have been a few of them that I’ve really liked. As the lazy person I am, I’m going to cheat and include the videos instead of actually writing about them, so please don’t kill me!

Last but not least, seiyuu! I think voice acting counts as “sound” so I’ll add that to this section. When it comes to the cast of FAIRY TAIL, I must say, there is nothing I can complain about, other than some characters sounding slightly different from what I expected. But there is no voice in this series that I can’t stand. Before I end the seiyuu section, I wish to say that I think Kakihara Tetsuya did an amazing job voicing Natsu. No other voice fits the character better than his.
Wow, you stayed with me to the end! Or maybe you just scrolled past all that? Anyway, having said that, I can’t believe FAIRY TAIL is actually over. At least temporary. I don’t have much to say really, aside from the fact that I’m really sad to see this go. But luckily it’s not over yet. As a shounen, FAIRY TAIL is definitely outstanding even though it can be compared to other of its genre. But then again, when is something ever truly unique these days? The nakama theme will always be recycled, and no matter how many times I see it, I’ll never get tired of it. And the same can be said about FAIRY TAIL. I will never stop loving this series. My Saturdays will be quite different, but hopefully, they’ll be back to normal soon.
Having said that, I wish to make a quick announcement. Like FAIRY TAIL has come to an end, so has my time here at Random Curiosity. I wish to thank everyone for the amazing time here, and I wish to thank my readers who have supported me throughout my year as a contributor to the site. Your kind and supporting words motivated me so much, and you are the reason why I got this far. But this is as far as I can go for now. My life has changed a lot after joining this blog, and I have got some great memories from here. Random Curiosity is, and will always be, an important site to me. To all my dear readers, thank you for the support. As this is my last post here on this site, I wish to end it with the traditional phrase.
Moete kitazou!
T_T
See you later, Fairy Tail: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqfFwKaLfyA
thank you jesus.
JESUS has got nothing to do with this.
Thank you, Satan?
Neither does satan.
Thank you All Great and Powerful OZ!!
…..I am shocked, for it to end so soon. This must have been because Lucy’s voice actress wanted to quit.
Just like the anime of Rave Master, Fairy Tail anime may end in the same manner Bleach did.
There are many rumors as to why the anime ended, but not once did I think that Aya wanting to quit was one of them! 1.) Aya already had conflicts in voice acting years prior to this, and 2.) this has an incredibly large cast who all have conflicts and yet they were still able to keep this anime continuing for like 5 years now??? No.
Salutations and congratulations on a triumphant end to your blogging career! 😀 And a great end to Fairy Tail, for now 😉
Thanks! :]
First Bleach, and now Fairy Tail!? =(
You forgot Magi.
Magi is already getting a second season, thus it is not in the same category as Fairy Tail and Bleach, which are long running adaptations which were just cancelled indefinitely.
One day Bleach and Fairy Tail will return.
More like first Hitman Reborn, then Bleach, and now Fairy Tail…
Gimme back my Reborn dammit, it was so close to ending anyways T-T
just read the manga. the ending in the manga was crap anyways.
i think same with D.Gray-man anime, anime finish but manga still continue..
Thanks for your work, Stereoman. Doesn’t seem like it’s been very long since you started, but it was nice while it lasted.
And at least I can bide my time waiting for this show to be picked up again by waiting for Funimation to RELEASE THE GODDAMN ENGLISH DUB.
I should be the one thanking you. Thanks for sticking with me :]
Thank you for introducing Fairy Tail to me–I started watching the anime after reading some of your posts on RC. Your posts have been fun to read. 🙂
Best of luck to you, and thanks so much for having contributed to RC! We will miss you.
I’m glad I managed to make you pick this up. Thank you so much for the kind words!
And this concludes Aya Hirano‘s career as a seiyuu.
If Aya Hirano didn’t quit, Stereoman would still be our slav…. I mean writer for RC.
There is a spin-off of Lucky Star coming that focuses on the Miyakawa family, and the original cast have confirmed to reprise their roles for it, but most likely as cameo appearances.
The anime ended. T____T
UGH LIFE
LIFE HAS NO MEANING
Fairy Tail may have been hammy and had every single last shonen cliche in the book but…… GOD IT WAS SO HAPPY AND BRIGHT!! ; ____ ;
I keep posting here but I can’t help it. By all accounts Fairy Tail has all the traits in anime that I hate, but I cannot bring myself to hate it! The fact that you’re now leaving the site is depressing, and light will shine on me a bit less now that this show is gone. The fact that you really had a passion for following it because you’re a true fangirl made me enjoy reading your posts very much. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words. ;o;
WAAAAAAh FAIRY TAIL <3
No more anime…well despite Hirano Aya's rumor, I still love her =D lol
Im gonna miss Fairy tail and gonna go over all the OP/ED cause I loved all of them!!
I cried for days after this, and then kicked my ass into reading the manga, though I just started from Ch 267, now I’m all caught up. I share you’re love for Natsu IMMENSELY!!! It normally bothers me when character become very OP, but Natsu was so fricken awesome I just didn’t care.
I’m gonna miss your posts Stereoman, I liked your manga summaries *waves* I hope you come back if the anime ever continues!
I know right? Natsu is awesome!
Aww, thanks, I’ll miss you too! :]
Take care of yourself Mou. I hope that your future is a bright and a warm one. Thank you for blogging FT and it was fun reading and bashing Minvera like the bitch she is. Just don’t get too steamy from with Moomba or else Juvia might take a page out of your book :3
Thanks Ben, your support means a lot to me. Thank you for sticking with me to the end! You’re one of the best friends I’ve made here. :]
Also, we’ll see about that. ;D
Its most likely going to be back Fall this year or Winter next year. Its too popular for it to not be back. The anime right now is very close to the latest manga chapter. The manga needs to be further along so they can keep making more episodes.
/me cries
It all began with FT and it ended with FT.
Moomba tell Stereo not to go!
Well, I enjoyed reading your perspectives on Tasogare and especially Sukitte, not to mention those chaot..I mean fun times on the channel. Take care and all the best!
YES!!!
STEREOMAN IS LEAVING!
THANK GOD!!
……..

Why are their water in my eyes.
Must be the humidity here.
Aww thanks, I’ll miss you. :]
You really outdid yourself with this last review Stereoman, your posts will be missed, not just of Fairy Tail but of other shows you blogged as well.
Thank you so much! ;o;
And yeah, this is the least I could do for my all time favourite series.
Definitely will miss the show. I always liked the grey and erza scenes, they always seem like they can talk to each other normal, probably my fav scene is when grey finds erza (in the tower of heaven flash back) by the river and becomes friends.
But really fairy tail is full of great and wonderful characters. The whole guild is awesome.
Man it’s sad to think that when/if the show returns that the blogger will not continue, well good luck with your future endeavors and hope continue to enjoy this great series.

Well, what a great way to blast off. Great post. I’ll miss Fairy Tail, and I’ll miss your blog posts of Fairy Tail.
Thanks! ;o;
FUCK!
Like it or not, Believe it or not, Feel it or not.
FAIRY TAIL IS COMING BACK.
Wait so does this mean no one is covering the Fairy Tail Manga?
Hmm, I don’t think so. You can always check the schedule for more information on what’s being covered.
and nothing of value was lost
okay, that’s a lie. I’ll miss Jellal, Mira, Lucy and Lisanna.
It said To Be Continued at the end, meaning the show is destined to return someday.
Until next time Fairy Tail _I,,,
Awww… You made this double sad, not only the anime is ending, but this is also your last post T_T I was so looking forward to your future posts about the manga. I was preparing myself to type long post
that noone will read anywayabout the last episode and series overall, but your last words have really hit me. Well, you will be missed. 🙁P.S. I watched the first episode of Fairy Tail Best, there seemed to be no change whatsoever. The only question that remains is whether they’re going to re-air whole series or just a selected number of episodes. I mean, it’s called Fairy Tail “Best” after all…
I’m sorry for making you sad, I didn’t mean to do that.
But anyway, I wish to thank you for your support. You have become one of my favourite readers and your comments really motivated me to keep on writing. I always read all your comments regardless of their length.
I will truly miss you, Misk. :]
I’m happy that what I wrote helped you in some way 🙂 Thank you and see ya~
Until next time Fairy Tail…
Ohhh Stereoman you’re an incredibly gigantic fangirl, it’s borderline insane (I’m referring to your more-than-obvious ships that you keep mentioning), and is a bit, seriously no offence, distracting.
Speaking of fangirling though, I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU DIDN’T MENTION ANYTHING ABOUT MIRA IN THE FIGHTING FESTIVAL ARC!!! That, in all honesty, was the biggest WOW factor in all of FT for me–and I’m including the events in the manga so far as well.
In any case, nice write-up. Please do continue with the FT posts! And good luck!!
Aww, I’m sorry. I can’t help it, there are too many ships here. QQ I wish I didn’t distract you too much with my rambling.
Didn’t Mashima state that the anime will be back at a different time slot soon?
Anyway, thanks a lot of the coverage there Stereoman and for reprising the coverage that Omni has made.
For the series itself, the really annoying part was the Key of the Starry Sky arc. Why? Because it’s a filler, which means that:
– it doesn’t take itself seriously… or even less seriously than before.
– it doesn’t bother adding something new and essential to the series.
– it doesn’t matter what happens here because we will never see it again.
I seriously think that the season should have added at the end of the Tenrou Island arc, so it could have come back at the start of the X791 arc.
I enjoy the series and the manga. However, there’s one aspect that really rubs me the wrong way: It’s the time skip at the very beginning of the X791 arc.
Show Spoiler ▼
As for characters, my biggest gripe is Lucy Heartfilia, for various reasons:
– She’s always the backup wheel. She’s not as strong as Natsu, Gray, Erza or Wendy, thus never gets that involved in critical situations beside support.
– Her magic, while cool, is weak. She’s too depend on the keys, can’t borrow her spirits’ powers for herself and still didn’t get some sort of improvement over how many spirits she can summon at once. The most I’ve seen was 2 at a time. I would expect her to summon 6 spirits at the time at this point.
– She’s worthless without her keys. She doesn’t have any backup ability that would make her viable if magic is impossible to use. Her whip? Yeah… she doesn’t use it that often.
– The spirits themselves don’t seem to improve much, compared to the others’ magic.
– She gets captured WAY too many times. She’s like part backup wheel and part damsel in distress. Furthermore, Loke, who can cross the “portal” from the Celestial Realms, barely helps her in these situations.
– She doesn’t seem to even want to get stronger herself. It’s like she didn’t realize that she’s weak and needs to be better.
Mashima should consider making Lucy as strong as Gray, at least, by the end of the arc in the manga. The last 2 keys, Pieces and Libra, have been revealed. I really hope that Lucy gets them and that causes the 12 golden keys to merge with one of her forearms to make it a permanent part of her very self. I have nothing against Yukino BTW, but I actually think that she might hand over her 2 keys to Lucy at the end, whether because she gets imprisoned for her involvement in the whole Eclipse ordeal and wants Lucy to take care of Pieces and Libra during her sentence… or because she gets killed. I’m not in favor of the latter though, but that can happen.
So yeah, good series, awful time skip and weak main female lead, which I hope that she’ll get better soon.
Regarding Lucy, I always thought the author was going with, telling the story from a average/normal protagonist’s perspective who witnessed and was part of something great – it’s natural for these types to have weak or average protagonist.
That may be the case, Lucy isn’t an average/normal protagonist anymore. In fact, as soon as the first episode showed us that she can use magic herself, they made it clear that she wasn’t average.
I heard there gonna do reruns and slowly work their way back to the manga
That’s the plan, and then the Anime will return.
Yeah the animation turned me off from watching.I stopped around the Midnight/Zero arc and tried to get back into it with the timeskip arc, but I just couldn’t.
The soundtrack was and still is god tier.I hope it gets a reboot/remake like HxH did with the whoever did the music working on it again.
Congrats on an awesome finale post for a great series and one that certainly seems fitting as a final post! Thanks for always providing something great to read after the conclusion of every episode or chapter of FAIRY TAIL – it really wouldn’t have been the same without you. I have no doubt you’ll be missed as a writer here on RC, but here’s to an awesome future! <3
Thank you so much! I look forward to an awesome future with you! ♥
i scrolled down to comment then..well seen this..and i just commented at the farewell post too >_<
dunno what to say..farewell Fairy tail anime (regardless of the to be continued notice) or Farewell to you both :(..
but as long as you are happy together..happy for you then ^__^
May u spend an awesome future with each other 😉
Last line i swear : thank you for all the work on Fairy tail posts Stereoman you and your posts will be missed..hehe "^^
Stereoman will you still be covering the manga?
Unfortunately, no. I am leaving this blog, permanently.
Things just got more sad here as a moment reminiscent of happier times that Fairy Tail has brought into my life. This episode packed enough entertainment to last a thrilling memory (https://randomc.net/image/FAIRY%20TAIL/FAIRY%20TAIL%20-%20175%20-%20Large%2034.jpg) and given the epilogue there’s so much to look forward to. Sadly, the FT posts won’t be part of the excitement anymore. Take care FT fans, we’ll always share what we love…Fairy Tail is always the #1 guild in our hearts and at RC https://randomc.net/image/FAIRY%20TAIL/FAIRY%20TAIL%20-%20175%20-%20Large%2032.jpg

Loved the end card! ^_^
really wished they at least finished the tournament first.was really looking forward to some of the fights
this series was pretty bad. i liken it to a poor naruto x dragon ball z imitation. im a little surprised it lasted this long.
for what its worth, heres a toodles!
see ya later crappy magic effects, and hack animation!!
finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally finally
so is it coming back again 7 years later?? i’ll wait… XD
Here’s a little trivial information for those of you who like to talk trash about this Amazing, Beautiful, Wonderful show. When Fairy Tail( Anime ) premiered in October 2009 it was originally supposed to last for only one season but after 48 episodes the show gained massive popularity and receieved critical acclaims with highly positive reviews from critics and viewers alike which boosted the show through seasons two, three and four. I have no doubt that this show is simply going on hiatus to give the manga more space for more storylines. I as well as other Fairy Tail lovers know that Fairy Tail is coming back, it might take a few years but we’ll be right here when it returns.
Wow! Thanks so much Stereoman for the longest review ever. Reading everything made me incredibly nostalgic and like reliving the entire series with all the emotion attached!
Best of luck for the future, thanks for all your amazing reviews and fangirl-ism
Aww, thank you so much. It makes me happy that you read all of it. Cookies for you!
Haha, yeah, I think this is the longest finale post on RC so far… I guess I love this series too much! \o/
Thank you so much for the kind words! ;o; I’m glad my fangirl-ism was appreciated. QQ
anyone know the name of the song that plays after rogue says total defeat?
If this happens to Naruto too, I think I’ll cry.
FAIRY TAIL IS COMMING BACK.
I just remembered that the Tenrou Island Arc looks familiar with the movie Toy Story 3 in the last part were they all held hands together.

Well who ever wrote this is clearly an idiot. Fairy tail is not ending a der. First to be smart why would it end in an episode like that? Second if your read the official fairy tail blog it is going to be airing next month A.k.a May. 3rd Don’t believe whoever wrote this.
They’re airing reruns. Basically they’re done animating new material for now.
I also agree Mysterious
FOR THE LAST TIME. FAIRY TAIL IS NOT ENDING. IT’S COMING BACK IN SEPTEMBER.
are u sure fairytail will be back on september
FAIRY TAIL WILL RETURN..
i just feel that a big part of me has died
