「寿命中断(クリティカル)」 (Jumyō Chūdan (Kuritikaru))
“Life Interrupt (Critical)”

Our daily dose of BIRI BIRI is here again and well, things start turning slightly more serious as the pieces start falling into place.

Starting things off this week is a nice flashback into Misaka’s past (SO CUTE!)—particularly her experience with the unnamed boy afflicted with muscular dystrophy and her subsequent allowance of the mapping of her DNA. To say the least, there was definitely a lot wrong with the whole scenario—ranging from the obvious lack of informed consent to the intentional exposure of someone so young to something so terrible—but for me, it was especially notable to see the connection to Misaka’s reaction in the first episode, as well as the fact that things aren’t all that sunny despite her rather cheerful exterior. And with the return of the unnamed blue haired girl from her flashbacks, as well as the supposed rumors spreading around about mass-production clones of Level 5 espers… it looks like extra trouble’s just brewing along the corner.

For now however, things are mostly fairly calm… and that leaves us with some pretty priceless moments and expressions as a result. There’s just nothing like watching Kuroko mess with Misaka to give off a few laughs, and gosh darn, there were quite a few of those this episode. I mean, how about that Satan Saten (ALL THAT MONEY!)? Or that trick played on the dorm supervisor (SECRET ONEE-SAMA VOICE COLLECTION, YEAHHH)? Oh, did I mention the return of the dark alleyway gag from the first episode too? Just some entertaining stuff.

In the end though, I guess that’s why I always had a soft spot for this series. Not only are the characters pretty likable and fun to watch, there’s a nice sci-fi/action/fantasy backing to everything as well, and a decent, serious plot to top things off. There just aren’t many series that manage to pull this combination off well, and there are just few things better to do on a Friday night than watching some railgun action. Amazingly enough, she didn’t actually get much of a chance to show off this week… but it definitely looks like that’ll be more of the exception than the norm. And well, what can I say except: make sure you drink your milk, and for crying out loud, stay out of dark alleyways. Oh yeah, and stop trying to pick on seemingly harmless girls too—especially if you’re in Academy City (gotta pity the fools).

**Again, please refrain from discussing anything beyond the scope of what’s been covered by the anime.

  1. I need to hang out with Saten-san because she seems to have a nose to sniff out money lol. Not only that, I like how she seems to always has an adventure. Maybe her and I can do some treasure hunting xD. I know some people going to wondering why Nunotaba Shinobu doesn’t have the not so creepy eyes as her character design in the manga. I’m only guessing that maybe Kiyotaka Haimura (The one who designs all characters in for the Index universe) might of not designed her in the manga at the time likely did the design for the anime. Her personality still makes up for it (Her creepiness) which is why it doesn’t bother me so much. She really gives it to them.

    And…
Misaka had to put that gekota strap on her tea cup I guess that sealed the deal for her on her little tea party. xD

      1. I’m guessing what aloysius meant is that he doesn’t want the adaptation to deviate from the source by making Last Order appear when she’s never appeared in Railgun before.

  2. Looks like Mikoto is about to put in work next week. The pacing so far of this season of railgun seems better than the previous one (its still too early to tell) Hope im right.

  5. excuse me, but what is the point in this post? why is zephyr blogging this? no offence, but someone else should blog this…

where did the good writers of this site go?

      1. this is just a summary. i miss the days when some sort of intellect was required to compose a decent post. all the bloggers who blog this season have problems understanding their shows. can we have the old writers back, please? this was supposed to be blogged by someone else, get that guy back.

      2. I don’t usually make a point to reply to such comments, but I’ll make an exception here.

I’m curious. What exactly are you expecting in terms of a post regarding a set up episode such as this without going into spoilers regarding either the source material or Index? Because the way I see it, given what we’ve seen so far in episode one and two alone, you’re not going to get pretty far without going into some kind of ridiculous conjecture unless you want to spoil half/most of the readership here, which is not and never has been something we do here.

And really, I find it rich that you’re saying all the bloggers have problems understanding their shows. What’s been misunderstood? Did you actually read everyone’s posts on all the series being covered? Have you read past posts written by these same authors? Posts written by me? Like PSYCHO-PASS and Hyouka finales I covered for? Because it sure looks like you haven’t done your due diligence and are making mass generalizations.

Furthermore, what gives you the right to say you understand a show better than the people here? Is this coming from the view of someone who has already read the source materials? Because if it is, that just makes your accusation that much more absurd, as you’re basically blaming us for not understanding something that we don’t have the full picture on, when you do. Just absolutely ridiculous. And also, if by some chance you didn’t read the source materials, I gotta say, that’s just pure arrogance if you think you’re someone who can understand it so much better than all of us.

Last but not least, you say you mean no offense, but that’s total BS. The fact that you needed to say it in the first place showed offensive intent, and it just makes me wonder. Since you basically said every writer here sucked, why exactly are you still here? Because gosh darn, it sure looks like we’re too intellectually challenged to meet your criteria.

tl-dr: If you got something to contribute that doesn’t involve mass spoilers, do so. Got something you want to point out regarding a writer’s style/post? Give suggestions to fix it or contribute your own thoughts like everyone else. If you got nothing else better to say aside from “OH LET’S JUST REPLACE THIS GUY,” then don’t say it. Spare me the arrogance, the pretentious attitude, and the nonsense.

Oh yes. And to repeat your own comment: “What was the point of your comment exactly?” Cause it sure looked like there wasn’t any point there aside from meaningless criticism and bigotry. You got so much time to post that comment (and other similar ones in other writers’ posts), why don’t you use it to post something constructive instead?

      3. Seeing as zephyr couldn’t dwelve into spoilers and this episode is just a calm before the storm. I don’t see the validity of those complaints AT ALL.

Why don’t you write it yourself if you are so talented. Just a suggestion.

  6. Hey, we have Index singing the ED for Railgun this season.

While it’s a pity Elisa isn’t doing the ED (maybe for ED2, hopefully), Iguchi Yuka actually sings quite well in her real voice.

Last Order… not quite! Still, HNNNNGGG!

This shot could have easily come from an Aoki Ume anime.

  7. And thus we see the beginnings of the Accelerator arc in Index (I think)

Just so happen I finished watching the Accelerator arc in Index I.

I’m spamming both Index series just for this show.

    1. You don’t need to watch Index, Railgun season 1 is enough. Index will actually spoil the ending of this arc so I wouldn’t recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet. Only thing you’ll miss out is knowing who the black spiky hair guy is [aka main character of Index series].

  8. Hmm… So there is this strange law in Academy City which prohibits damaging or discarding cash, cash cards do not fall under such a category.

This is one strange law because if this is the case, donating cash would be considered a crime since ‘discarding’ means relinquishing one’s property rights in an object.

  9. >Again, please refrain from discussing anything beyond the scope of what’s been covered by the anime.

LOL, do you mean only in the Railgun route? Or Index as a whole?

Anyway I thought we are starting with the Festival Arc, why suddenly are we going for the SISTER’s arc?

    That’s just confusing :/

    1. Timeline wise, we’re still around the beginning of August(August 10 to be exact), around the time of the Deep Blood arc in Index(Himegami Aisa and Aurelios). Daihasesai arc is in the middle of September.
It’s easy to forget that since the dates aren’t mentioned in the anime as much as it was in the manga/LN. Also, Railgun timeline starts a few days earlier than Index timeline so that’s why we’re still at this part of the Index/Railgun storyline.

  10. I spent my Friday (that I should’ve spent studying) watching Chihayafuru and then Railgun. All I can say is that the Shinobu’s look and seem to give off the same presence.

  11. I just noticed! The reason why Shinobu had to act all creepy and theatrical is because of the anaestatic she used: she HAD to get them scared to get their heart pumping so that the anaestatic would work faster!

Ras Al Ghul: Theatricality and deception are powerful tools to the untrained eye.

Ladies and gentlemen, you’ve just seen a modern, impromptou Batman trick in action!
