Naruto 665 – Behind a Name

If there is one thing I have to stop underestimating, it’s those characters that haven’t been totally written off yet. You’d think I would understand that by now, but I guess not. Then again, who would’ve thunk that Obito still had a part to play here? We spent so much pointing to the expected revivals of Sasuke and Naruto and the X-factors in Orochimaru (and the like) that I totally forgot about Obito still potentially being relevant, and it’s somewhat of an interesting twist. Sure, by all means he should’ve been dead or long gone by now, but hey it turns out the talk-no-jitsu did work out. Just needed some time to settle in.

That said, one does wonder what exactly Obito was doing there at the end. Was he literally absorbing the Six Sage chakra from Madara? Or did he just conjure up the staff he used before again? And what happened to the whole “mysterious presence” that was supposed to be doing “unspeakable things to Sasuke? Definitely a lot of questions left over from this chapter on part of the viewers…

…though Madara himself seems to have nothing but answers. With his whole explanation about the original intent of the Sage of the Six Paths and the role of chakra in conflict and misunderstandings (what isn’t it involved in at this point?), it’s pretty clear that he knows a lot more than a lot of Shinobi do, which is intriguing considering the cast we have assembled right now. In the end, I guess its just fitting, because at this point Madara isn’t so much a name as it is a description of the views he holds and the attitude he has regarding life. Indeed, this chapter in particular focuses on this notion in regards to “who Obito is” and “who he been acting as” over the past few decades, and it ties in quite nicely to the whole “you were Madara until I came back” thing.

Ultimately, the aforementioned added some nice touches to the chapter which turned out generally decent despite which was the re-use of the talk-no-jutsu tactic, and the bringing back of someone we dismissed as done a long time ago. Looking forward, it’s the 666th chapter next week—something that also ends up quite fitting considering the possible developments we could get. Any bets on Obito biting the dust?

    “I’m Madara, you’re Madara”….we’re all Madara!
“I’m the sage of the six paths, you’re the sage of the six oaths, naruto is the sage of the six paths”…we’re all sages!
    Kinda weird.

Things to be learned from this chapter….
      1. Any and Everything is Madara. #Your argument is invalid.
      2. Chakra is the cause of evil. #derp
      3. Talk-No Jutsu is the strongest jutsu in history. So much so that it’s working on Sage Madara.
      4. Minato suddenly decides to use sage mode to no avail. To be honest, did Kakashi, Minato and Gaara have a chance to begin with? LOL
      5. Apparently Obito is the only one who can catch Madara off guard. Unbelievable.

      Sigh….

Just like how in Fairy Tail, everyone is Jellal. In Naruto, everyone is Madara.

      • February 19, 2014 at 8:35 pmHalfDemonInuyasha

As mentioned by a bunch of people over the last bunches of chapters, the story title should be changed to “Madara”, lol.

      • February 19, 2014 at 9:49 pmK C M

Speaking of FAIRY TAIL, you guys know that the Anime returns in April 2014(this year).

Oprah: Everybody! Look under your seats! That’s right, you get to be Madara, you get to be Madara! Everyone gets to be Madara!

I really didn’t see that coming and actually I found it very refreshing to have someone aside Naruto be one of the badass good guys. The last couple of chapters I was expecting a cope out, revive Naruto and he steals the show. While I’m sure Obito will probably die but steal back the Nine Tails and ultimately resurrect Naruto (Sakura has his heart, literally).

    My only qualm…needs more Hinata.

  • February 19, 2014 at 4:51 pmswordhack4

I wish we got a little more in this chapter like the last two….still despite not being too much happening in those chapters either, it just felt faster and extremely hyper.

Damn, I could have sworn Obito was dead by now -_-. Kill him already, all plot stops moving when he comes in to play. He’s no Uzumaki, so as far as I’m concerned, he should have bitten the dust as soon as he used the Rinne Tensei. I don’t want to here anything about “staying alive through willpower” BS. Will power isn’t keeping Naruto alive, and he’s the main character. Regardless, I did kinda nod my head to give props for him standing up to Madara.

….Minato’s asshole must be pretty loose after Madara raped him like that.

    • February 19, 2014 at 6:11 pmChristian

      1. Obito has Hashirama’s cells
      2. When he was about to bite the dust, black zetsu used his body and said that he was keeping obito alive.
      3. balck zetsu stole the kyubi power thus powering up obito as well.
      4. having kuybi chakra, he was able to avoid dying (like what they are planning to keep naruto alive) and was able to stab Madara.
      5. Obito was the juubi host once. He was able to manipulate the Juubi’s chakra. It’s not strange he can absorb the chakra through Madara.

      • February 19, 2014 at 6:22 pmswordhack4

Yeah, I see that now, but my hatred for Obito is really blinding me from the obvious. I will love and respect the man Obito used to be, even if he is back to the current Obito now, he’s just a nuisance to me who needs to die.

The 13 year old kid who once said “Ninja who don’t abide by rules are trash, but ninja who abandon their friends, are worse than trash.” THAT’S the Obito I respect and would love to see more of. As I said, even if he’s back to being the old Obito, I just want him dead. It’s been 40 chapters of the same thing with this guy.

FOCUS ON SASUKE! MADARA IS BORING!

  • February 19, 2014 at 7:15 pmHalfDemonInuyasha

“I totally forgot about Obito still potentially being relevant, and it’s somewhat of an interesting twist. Sure, by all means he should’ve been dead or long gone by now, but hey it turns out the talk-no-jitsu did work out. Just needed some time to settle in”

I think that also shows just how lame a villain Obito was in the long-run, especially compared to Madara. This chapter now further cements Obito as Nagato 2.0.

Still, an interesting thing to consider from this chapter is the fact that, as much as one may be against Madara, some of his points DO have merit just as much as some of Naruto’s and others.

From what Madara said, it sounded like Hagoromo’s mother possibly used chakra in a way similar to how Nagato wanted to use the Biju after getting them all; as such a terrifying weapon that people would be too afraid to wage war lest they incur her wrath. Hagoromo himself seemed like he wanted to dispel that fear by spreading the use of chakra around to everyone and, as Madara said, allow people to understand eachother (much like how Naruto believes everyone could) through its use.

Unfortunately, as history shows, humans are “evil”, greedy, and competitive creatures, so of course they didn’t try to use the gift of chakra to try to understand eachother, but to continue trying to one-up eachother, which also usually involves taking the others out so you’re the only top dog and, not surprisingly, the conflict started right back up again as soon as Hagoromo was gone and the elder successor tried to kill the younger, chosen, successor. While, yes, there were those who would want to use chakra to understand eachother (like the younger successor probably intended), they were also probably ridiculously outnumbered by the others most likely.

What there needs to be is some kind of balance. Both Madara AND Naruto’s goals are really opposing extremes of eachother.

On one hand, Naruto’s goal is pretty similar to Hagoromo’s in that, as noble as it may be, it’s very unrealistic and nigh-impossible to truly obtain, much less sustain afterwards, and, as history has shown, such a goal failed as it had failed when it was attempted other times in history like Hashirama tried when forming Konoha and the Village System with Madara.

On the other hand, Madara’s goal is no better in that it would be a world where no one is truly living. No individualism, no free will. It’s, literally, an illusionary world and not a real peace, but a hypocritical world in itself as in order to create and sustain it, it would require the use of that very same “evil” chakra that Madara seeks to erase from the world within the Eternal Tsukuyomi.

It’s good to see Minato not holding back anymore, going Sage Mode and all.

… wait a minute. Doesn’t this make Minato a complete ass for holding back before? Did he not know Obito was weak to Senjutsu?

  • February 19, 2014 at 7:33 pmrandomly

So… looking forward to see how Minato contributes to the fight now that HE HAS NO ARMS. Fully expect Kushina to be the person next to Sasuke, looking to throttle Minato from beyond the grave.

  • February 19, 2014 at 9:27 pmBelias

Just die, Uchiha Obito. Please. C’mon, now you’re a fucking zombie that can control the only one thing that’s keeping you alive??? Bullshit.

  • February 19, 2014 at 10:16 pmCorey Lucas

Thank You Obito for stopping this Gary Stuness from spreading all over again. Now kill the sonavabitch so we can END THIS SERIES PLEASE! Also I knew Obito was gonna turn traitor .

  • February 19, 2014 at 10:22 pmK C M

For those who think that the series will reach it’s finale as soon as the war comes to an end and the war is won by Naruto and the shinobi alliance, I would like to say don’t get your hopes up. I am by no means saying that the Manga will go on forever I just think that the show still has a lot to offer before it reaches it’s conclusion I also know that the story’s arcs like the Akatsuki’s move and invasion as well as the hunt for Itachi Uchiha and others gave us great entetainment but I don’t see all of this leading to one great big finish. Remember that there are still a lot of things to resolve, for instance Orochimaru’s
revival(thanks to Sasuke) we can’t expect Him to become a good guy now not after all that He has done. Then there is the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke, MK(the author) has raised the stakes for a Naruto vs Sasuke fight now that Sasuke has pledged to become Hokage and as far as I’m concerened Sasuke’s sudden born again attitude sounds to good to be true I still think that the death of His Brother and Clan still has an effect on Him. Then there is a love story between the main characters I think it’s about time MK works to resolve the feelings between some of Them. And as for who will be the new bad guys since the killing off of the Akatsuki, I will say that that will be MK’s work let Him think of something.

    • February 19, 2014 at 10:47 pmHalfDemonInuyasha

If it keeps going, then Orochimaru and Sasuke will probably end up being the final big bads…the problem is, with all the bombastic stuff we’ve been given with Madara, coupled with both already being baddies before, I just don’t see how that could really be interesting…now if Hagoromo himself somehow came back to life and turned out to be a total douchenozzle and turning a majority of shinobi history upside-down with “the truth” that even Madara had no clue of…lol

      • March 5, 2014 at 1:59 amspotty161

yes i agree, its going to be hard to top madara’s evilness. if that happens I may just stop reading naruto altogether, which was what I did for bleach after the Aizen arc. and btw, obitos attack on madara reminds me so much of gin’s attack on Aizen. If you do follow bleach.

  • February 19, 2014 at 11:20 pmSoaker

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Minato get his ass handed to him. The so-called “untouchable” hokage finally met his match and he got fucking embarrassed. Bet those Minato fanboys are still crying.

    • February 20, 2014 at 6:28 pmSyver

Well of course a dead Minato isn’t going to beat a fully revived Madara and his hacks. silly fanboy. I doubt anyone at this point stands a chance against a revived Madara with rinnegan, Hashirama’s cells and a Sage of the six paths transformation he somehow pulled out of his ass.

  • February 20, 2014 at 12:04 amGundamvid

Would you say Madara is behaving like Agent Smith from the Matrix? I mean it feels like he wants a world which is all “him, him, him”

  • February 20, 2014 at 1:20 amMisk

Where did Minato’s Sage Mode come from?

  • February 20, 2014 at 2:08 amman_iii

Not sure if anyone realises this, Minato ( re-animated ) should be working at only 10% full power ? Since all the Edo Tensei are not the full power of the originals … they are remnants of the previous chakra …
Probably Minato gets himself destroyed … since Ridoku mode damages Edo Tensei permanently. Obito sucks Madara dry … or … Kakashi has Kamui’d the Rasengan created by Minato and transferred it to Obito and Obito stuck the Senjustu Rasengan inside Madara using his Kamui …. and hence the damage will allow the 8-tails / 9-tails to come out … get put back inside Naruto / Bee again … But Naruto gets the FULL 9-tails (both yin and yang ) … Madara pulls a Plot-no-Jutsu … or something out of Ar$e-no-Jutsu …
Then Sasuke gets his Curse-Seal promoted to Full Senjustu-Mode … Now Again Naruto / Sasuke / Bee all combine their things and blow Madara away. The End.
    OR
Madara is injured … Obito gives his right eye and left eye to Naruto saying look after Rin’s and his legacy :-P
Naruto now with Rinnegan and Sharingan and 9-tails and his Dad’s sealing techniques ( given via Senjutsu mode ? ) and his Uzumaki Kekkei-Genkai now awakened by the doujutsu can perform a SealAnything-no-Jutsu
and locks up Madara for good. Threatens Sasuke to never again come to the Leaf village … and banishes him along with Sakura …..

Naruto then makes NaruxHina come true and has more Demon babies with Rinne / Sharingan / Byakugan and some other exotic Eye-techniques and BloodLimits :-D

Then we get a 1000-years into the future of Ninja World … Naruto’s descendants are threatened by an inter-planetary invasion force … part Madara / Sasuke / Alien / Gundam / Macross / ??? other Anime cross-over stuff …. and we’ll see the end of Naruto in sight.

:-P :-O :-| Kami-sama save us all from the hell-hole called Weekly Anime Withdrawal !!!!

So like yea, excuse me a bit while I facedesk in quick succession and give Obito a big:

SCREW YOU! JUST DIE ALREADY! You’re a pitiful excuse for a villain.

God,if Orochimaru’s watching he must be like “Lol dude, get on my level”,and that would be putting it nicely.

That aside,Madara’s little explanation of the Sage of the Six Paths chakra was quite interesting.

  • February 20, 2014 at 9:30 amUtmost

I would love to see Naruto revived using anything but the Nine Tails. I think he has that innate talent that he would only really need the Kyuubi for the power boost and not to make up for any lack of ability. Give him that chance to school Madara using his own power and not Kyubi please.

    • February 20, 2014 at 1:37 pmHalfDemonInuyasha

While that would be nice, the problem would be that Kishi would have to REALLY hax out Naruto in order to be anywhere near even a tiny fraction of Madara’s power (even without the Jubi) because the only time Naruto ever had any focus on his own power, without Kurama, was during the Kakuzu/Hidan Arc with his elemental training and the half-finished Rasenshuriken, and that barely lasted as soon as the arc was over. Aside from that, Naruto hasn’t had any training “himself” as opposed to external power-ups like Sage Mode or Kurama’s chakra.

There’s also the fact that he isn’t exactly “skilled”. He’s much more of a brute force brawler which, “realistically” anyway, would be all but useless against anyone with any actual experience, which would require an additional “moment of stupidity” on Madara’s part to give Naruto that perfect opening that he otherwise should never have gotten (like he did against Kakuzu and Deva Path Pain).

It wouldn’t be so bad if they kept a “hidden power” as a constant thing, like Gohan in DBZ had it as a constant since the start of the series, but they really didn’t, so if Kishi were to pull such a thing out now, it would just be a total WTF asspull that many wouldn’t be able to enjoy. I mean, without Kurama’s chakra, all he has is Sage Mode which Madara, even with just his Edo Tensei self, demonstrated is pretty much useless against him, so without even Sage Mode, Naruto isn’t that much stronger than he was way back with Kakuzu and Hidan, which was very weak compared to even most experienced Chunin, much less the big powerhouses right now.

Why do I have this feeling that Sasuke and Naruto will become one as a person in the finally of this manga.
    :/

  • February 20, 2014 at 5:52 pmSeya-san

I think it’s Sai. Next to Sasuke.

    Obito… it was great!

  • February 21, 2014 at 5:26 amorkinlort

To be honest, while I didn’t buy the TNJ Naruto did on Nagato, I bought the TNJ he did on Obito. That one made more sense to me. Especially with Kakashi there to explain it.

  • February 21, 2014 at 3:14 pmSPat3

I think Obito has become my new favorite character. He’s like, the “what if” character of Naruto that isn’t Naruto (whatever that means lol). Him seeing Naruto and Sakura seem to really linger in his consciousness of memories/feelings regarding Rin. Even if he did end up as the ultimate bad guy in the end of all things Naruto(who knows???), I still can’t help but feel pity for the guy, while rooting for him to rise back up from the harsh pitfalls and be who he is and not an Antagonist’s um, “female dog”. Is this an affirmation that Obito chooses the pathway of the Hokage ideals despite being a former Madara idealist??? And what about that other half of the Six Tails that Black Zetsu has, in which Obito must now have in reclaiming his body over the Black Zetsu??? Hopefully the next chapter clears some mist up, with strong cliffhangers of course.
