“Seaside Promise”
It’s finally time — the infamous beach episode! And you know what comes with any decent beach episode? Tons of full-sized screencaps of all our favorite girls in their fancy swimsuits!
UMI DA!
Every slice of life has it eventually, and it’s finally Kiniro Mosaic’s turn! The infamous beach episode, something that tries to get the audience’s hopes up but often times backfires by being completely bland and boring — something that Kiniro Mosaic completely avoids but not misstepping and instead gives us everything we love and more!
Starting with just the general quality of the episode, it was pleasantly surprising to see just how nice everything looked! Everything from the backgrounds to the props all the way to the swimsuits and the animation itself all looked really vivid and we didn’t see any of the small animation quirks we’d get in a normal episode. Also, did I mention how good the episode looked?
Secondly, the episode was just a ton of fun to watch. We’ve been waiting almost a month for this to finally happen and now that it has, I don’t think there’s much more we could ask for. There was a lot of Shino and Alice, a bunch of Aya and Youko, and just the right amount of Karen to hold it all together. As an added bonus we even got to see Karasuma-sensei and Kuzehashi-sensei in their swimsuits! And even though we didn’t get to see our beloved Honoka this week, there’s just this irresistible charm to watching our main five just do cute things together. Amongst all the fun though, I think my favorite moment was when Karen took a prime opportunity to get a good reading on Youko’s body. Besides getting a rather erotic scene between our two jokesters, I’ll always take more of Karen getting “hit” with reality.
Looking Forward
With the end of the season right around the corner, I’m starting to get a little sad that we won’t get to see more of all our favorite characters. But even with the inevitable staring at us, there’s always a chance the show could get green lit for a third season!

I dunno what it is about Kiniro Mosaic, but English girls being shorter than Japanese girls… having smaller breasts than Japanese girls… everything just seems backwards to me since we all know that statistically speaking English girls are just bigger due to the quirks of Western high protein dietary consumption. Although Karen may have been hit with the Japanese fantasy reality, I can almost guarantee that it is almost only exclusive to the Japanese fantasy reality as opposed to the aforementioned reality.
Nevertheless, even though I’m an Englishman myself, I’d take smaller anyway. Flat is Justice. In other words, I love the way Kiniro Mosaic sets up the coincidence between two very different cultures that I am familiar with, as well as the ways in which they interact, even if there may be a lack of accuracy at times.
Small sample size. But really, since most Japanese representations of a Westerner tend to be tall, stacked, and gregarious, I wouldn’t be surprised if the mangaka purposely made them short to change things up.

Also, good point about the reverse in stereotypes. I may have subconsciously noticed but didn’t pay it any attention till you brought it up.
Actually, the average height of English girls of that age range is only about 1 to 1 1/2 inches more than Japanese girls of that age range. Even among adults it’s only like 2 1/2 inches. So there is a significant possibility of an English girl being shorter than the average Japanese girl.
Yes it took all the beach / swim anime tropes and made it fun to watch to watch! But in the end it is all about the friendships!

The contrast makes you forget that Alice is supposed to be the older one.
It’s a shame Honoka could not come, as she would have gushed over swimsuit Karen.
Maybe it’s for the best. Honoka would have passed out. ^^

Amuro was first thing that came to mind when Karen said those lines.
I kind of thought she was pulling out the “I’m a rich girl” card.

No Honoka, but the teachers in swimsuits more than made up for that missed opportunity. (Hope Honoka gets some pictures of swimsuit Karen when the five get back! XD)
When we hit the scene where the camera pans over the outfits, my hand had already opened photoshop without me realizing it.
Oh don’t know what it is, but the voice-acting was ON POINT this week. I mean it always is, but this week it seemed especially perfect. Maybe it’s because seiyus record together in the same room?
The beach episode may have felt “ordinary”, but it was never boring. It felt like I was enjoying the beach too!
Something about it.. just felt all kinds of right.
When the episode started I thought they weren’t going to blow much budget on the beach but then they got to the actual beach and >insert scream of awe here< everything suddenly became radiant! I really do hope this show goes for a third season. Adorable has never been better defined!

I was like, this’ll end up being one of those “I wish things could have been better” moments and instead we were treated to a buffet of amazing scenes and shots.
While they’re at it, a crossover episode with Gochuumon wa usagi desu ka would be nice too. If Rize and Aya actually meet…I have no idea what’s gonna happen.
Yoko’s almost as stacked as the teachers. Nice body, indeed.
Tsundere Aya is too cute.
I think I’m a closet Youko fan.
I really like Alice but.. there’s just something about girls with fangs.
She is more stacked than the others, but not unrealistically or disproportionately, which I appreciate.

I Remember one of the episode of Non-Non Biyori when a Middle school student was lost and the others think that she wants her mom…
Another great episode! Kusshi-sensei and Karasuma-sensei showing up was a very welcome bonus. Kusshi-sensei in a swimsuit was full of win! Of course Karasuma-sensei was just as pretty. Would have been great if Isami tagged along.
