「さくらの大雨注意報」 (Sakura no Ooame Chuuihou)
“Sakura’s Heavy Rain Warning”

With the amount of cards appearing quickly rising, it feels like the story is just about ready to kick things up a notch.

General Impressions

As I hinted at in the excerpt, I’m really hoping the pace begins to pick up sometime soon. As a show based around Sakura and her exploits as she tries to deal with whatever magical situation is thrown at her, new cards randomly appearing can only keep us appeased for so long. The thing is though, I don’t think this would feel as slow as they did if there was some reasoning or meaning behind everything that’s happening. At this point, all we know is that all the cards that Sakura retrieved prior to the start of the series have mysteriously become blank and new cards with similar powers are randomly appearing and turning into new “Clear Cards” that she can utilize in similar ways.

But here’s the thing (and Sakura has been also asking the same question) – why? Or rather, why is all this happening? It’s been three episodes (nearly a month in real life time) and we haven’t gotten any closer to answering that question. Something that, from a viewer’s perspective, feels like a giant slap in the face. Because as much as I love watching Sakura and her friends have fun just enjoying life, it becomes a little bit of a problem when it comes at the expense of the story slowing down to a turtle’s pace.

That said, I suppose this episode wasn’t all that bad since we finally got to see things progress a tiny bit. And while the small reveal that the person who’s been toying with Sakura in her dreams is the same size as her, it may have been too good of a hint of things to come. If I were to guess, it sounds like there might be some kind of Shadow Sakura out there. An alter version that might be trying to light some kind of fire inside of her counterpart for what or whomever is coming soon. Speculation aside, I really hope that this unknown antagonist turns out to be someone who’s worth all of this buildup for.

Anyways, I’ll catch you guys next week where we’ll hopefully get something meatier to sink our teeth into. Until then, be sure to keep your eyes for our schedule which should be going out soon and be sure to soak up some sun as spring slowly starts to roll in.

See you later!

  1. As usual, the cards she captures become useful against the next one that shows up. IIRC all the “conflicts” in CCS are mere tests, save perhaps the first movie where the antagonist has no relation to the Clow Cards aside from having a grudge against Clow Reed.

I’m glad the pace is stepping up. I remember dropping Beelzebub after 5 episodes because of repetitive gags and zero plot development.

  2. looks like touya and syaoran also knows something aside from eriol about what is happening… there are lots of foreshadowing in this episode too. and heck, what’s with the visions sakura get? is the vision she gets will be HER future and that the hooded figure is her? possibly another card captor will show up? damn… the plot is getting thicker and its just episode 3.

      1. We all know Syaoran knows more about the situation than Sakura does. Doesn’t mean he can’t help out.

Then again, no one gets seriously hurt in this anime anyways, so I guess it doesn’t matter.

  3. About the part where Sakura realizes the hooded figure is about the same size as her, about how it might be her future self. MMM, Sakura is like in middle school right now and around 13 or something?
Hopefully she’ll grow a bit in the next 4-6 years until she’s 18? If it’s her future self, it can’t be from a far future.

  5. don’t blow the candle out on this series just yet clamp’s not stupid they wouldn’t be treading familiar waters like this unless there was a specific reason for it that has nothing to do with nostalgia. besides I respect them for trying different genres in writing instead of doing the same thing over again but with a new paint job each time (cough nanoha cough). I like how in the 80’s and 90’s mahou shojo the female characters were allowed to grow into their powers and still have a life outside of magic even if that included romance. people may like the new dark edgy mahou shojo at lest stories back then were doing there own thing with what they had even if there were common themes instead of being like everyone else just for popularity sake.

  6. i post an earlier comment in the previous review (chap 2) amm if you think the pace and the lack of plot is annoying and get you in the nerves, imagine what is like to the manga readers. the animation right now is panel by panel. so everything you see right is what we have of ploting and story, there isn’t anymore. the cards appear for no reason, we have a cute moment an little little hint and that’s it
