「カレンの反乱」 (Karen no Hanran”)
“Karen’s Revolt”

This is kinda awkward, though, at this point, I’m zoning out when watching this show. I will try my best to talk about these episodes in full. Grab something to drink and sit back and enjoy this complete train wreck of an anime.

In this episode, it seems the OSF lost all power to the PsyNet, but it appears OSF soldiers were still able to use individual psychic powers thanks to them allocating their own brain resources. Or something like that, this whole episode I was trying to justify just how and why they were still able to use their abilities, even though PsyNet was clearly down. I guess because plot?

Nevertheless, Karen, being true to his name, pulls the biggest I want to see your manager move and decides to orchestrate a coup against the people of New Humika, his reason? Because they are blind and are sheep. (Big woop!) When it comes to dictators, he’s not really a big threat. It goes to show that the government and the OSF organization are holding many secrets in their midst, and Karen decides he wants to expose all of them because he is the self-aggrandizing savior of the people. In turn, becoming the villain of the series. The OSF stands for good, and everything else is evil. Yuito is a clear example of what the OSF represents. Ideals and dreams can be crushed when the truth is exposed.

In this episode, I really felt for Yuito because his hero (Karen) clearly comes into the limelight as the mastermind behind the current emergency going around the city and because the PsyNet is down and thus everything around them starts crumbling down. Their whole society relies on the PsyNet and without it, they can’t do anything. Basically, they took away their internet. But hey, if you want to do a coup, this is the way you would do it.

First, you take away their main form of communication, then you take away their backup generators, finally, you surround the capital building and broadcast your message and announce yourself as the new ruler of the nation. Once you’re in power, you give everything back to the people or become an evil dictator and handpick who of your citizens get what, while you stockpile on the riches, and leave the people out to dry. It could only go any which way when it comes to Karen and his hidden agenda. He needs to take control of the government so that he can mass-produce others and eradicate humankind because we are a plight on this earth. Sounds familiar?

That cliffhanger though!

At the end of the episode, Kasane is seen from the back dealing with one of the others, saving Yuito’s dad. But as soon as Yuito arrives on the scene he is met with a gruesome murder, Kasane is apparently back from her visit to the red string world, how did she get back? Who knows, probably we’ll learn this next episode. But that was certainly a cliffhanger!

Scarlet Nexus has some interesting things to it, and probably all of those who watch are being spoiled for the game, but other than that, it continues to be a weird little anime.
