「ドゥルジ嬢は疑わない!」 (Duruji Jou wa Utagawanai!)
“Druj Asks No Questions!”

Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!’s second episode introduces us to Jahy’s former subordinate Druj, a kind yet masochistic girl who finds herself joining Jahy in the human world. But to Jahy’s horror, the power balance teeters in Druj’s direction as she spends her time in the human world living in the lap of luxury under the name Dojima.

Druj is such an entertaining character with how her humble mindset and devotion to Jahy contrasts with the absurd wealth she stumbled across. Without any knowledge of Jahy’s circumstances, she’s left to assume that Jahy is even more well-off than she is, causing Druj to be open and candid about being able to afford things Jahy’s current self could only dream of.

It’s pretty funny to see how Jahy’s mistreatment of Druj ends up consistently backfiring on her as Druj starts to show her all of the things she has access to in the human world. The funniest situation had to be when Jahy was this close to having some of Druj’s mascarpone brulee only to pull her spoon away when she remembered an instance when Jahy was disgusted by any food she touched.

Much of the positivity in Druj’s life seems to already be karma at work with how Jahy’s subordinate wound up being highly successful, but it was also amusing to see that Druj receives the kind of care and hospitality she used to give Jahy. With the number of gadgets she has access to that can do her bidding and clean her abode, Druj already staked out the kind of living Jahy was so used to as the Demon King’s aide and second-in-command.

What makes it even more hilarious is how quickly Druj is to cover for Jahy as her past status as her subordinate conditioned her to assume Jahy has a deliberate, cunning reason behind her current living situation. Even with all of the signs pointing towards Jahy being petty, resentful, or trying to make do with a tight wallet, Druj naively and eagerly jumps to conclusions that paint her in a positive light. Kanazawa Hana does a perfect job conveying Druj’s infectious enthusiasm for both the mistreatment she gets from Jahy and the logical leaps she takes to make Jahy look cool.

Along with meeting Druj, we also get a little more background on finding mana crystals. With most of them being scattered about in the wild, Jahy’s first journey is an unfortunate trek through a rainy forest. But finding an enormous mana crystal is bound to be a great opportunity for us to see what happens when she has more than just a small fragment to empower her.

Similarly, she also gains more emotional maturity with both her empathy for a baby chick she took it upon herself to save and her willingness to accept the Landlord’s help. Where, perhaps, her trials and tribulations on earth aren’t just about regaining her strength, but soul-searching so that she can return to the demon realm as a more enlightened being.

  1. Ah, so Satania reunites with Raphiel this time around. (Also, Druj wearing a goth-loli outfit in the Dark Realm immediately reminded me of OreImo‘s Gokou Ruri–still one of my favorite Hanazawa Kana roles.) But man, her masochism gives me flashbacks of LalatinaDarkness.

At first, Druj’s current relationship with Jahy brings to mind the dynamics between Overlord‘s Demiurge and Ainz Ooal Gown (Druj/Demiurge thinking up an elaborate plan that she/he believes will benefit her/his leader and Jahy/Ainz going along with the flow–or something like that)…but then that flashback of Jahy rejecting Druj’s sweets occurred. Guess Druj has a wee bit of Raphiel’s sadistic side… (Yes, even in this world, Satania’s still bullied.) Joking aside, while I can make guesses as to what happened to Druj after the fall of the Dark Realm, part of me still wonders how she managed to get rich in the Human Realm.

And reviving the Dark Realm might go a lot faster if Jahy was polite enough to ask for Druj’s mana crystals. That said, good on Jahy to find her first mana crystal fragment.
