「ジャヒー様はお風呂に入れない!」 (Jahy-sama wa Ofuro ni Hairenai!)
“The Great Jahy Won’t Bathe!”
Our most recent episode of Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai! rolls out the Wii Shop Channel background music for the Demon King’s aide as she gets to experience the good life today. But while it was a much kinder episode on her, much of the positivity she experiences only reminds her of what she’s been missing.
I had a very good time with this episode because it was the first in a while where Jahy gets to have time to shine. Although the story rarely throws Jahy a bone, this episode linked together three different segments where Jahy got to enjoy things she rarely has had the chance to indulge in. Whether it be a nice bath, a lavish limo ride, or a fetish party where she and Druj re-enact their old roles from back in the Demon Realm, it served as a kinder reminder of how strong Jahy’s support unit is now that she’s dealing with Earth’s many struggles.
It was also a nice opportunity to catch up with Druj. It’s always a good time when Druj is there because she’s such an amusing character who strikes the balance between being Jahy’s devoted, submissive servant and being the cold, calculated president of a consulting company. It was hilarious to see how much she reveled in how the world of financial consultation is perfect for an evil demon such as herself.
Additionally, it lets us see the side of Druj that is confident and charismatic enough in her own right to be the president of a corporation. Where she might sell herself short because of her own devotion to Jahy, but she has enough command to accidentally do Jahy’s entire speech without even letting her finish a sentence Hanazawa once again did an awesome job at conveying each side of Druj as she’d switch from being Jahy’s proud lapdog to a calm yet stern exec to a gleefully wicked demon with ease.
But many of Jahy’s experiences in this episode ended up being more bittersweet from her perspective. While she was able to live vicariously through Druj’s accomplishments, her talents weren’t necessary for Druj to make a speech for her company. And even if Jahy had the best bath of her life when the Barkeep took her to a bathhouse, it only called attention to how abysmal her current setup is at her apartment.
One of the sadder moments of the episode was when it started to settle in for Jahy that her roleplay party with Druj only reminded her of the lack of power and amenities she has access to on Earth. Any efforts Druj could make to try to remove the human element from their party were dashed as Druj was pulled away for delivery packages and work calls she’d receive during the party. And with the last scene focusing on Jahy having an existential breakdown as she shouts at the sky to manifest her dream of returning to the Demon Realm, it became all too apparent that the pleasures that Jahy experienced in this episode wouldn’t be enough to bring her glory from the Demon Realm with her.
