“Confession”

Alto finds himself in hot soup for Episode 07 of Kinsou no Vermeil as he’s confronted by the Student Council President Elena about his connection to Vermeil. But while he only now finds himself to be cornered by some of the scarier people in the academy, there are far more people after his head than he realizes as high-ranking Platinum Squares have their sights set on him.

BAKA MITAI

I can feel the plot trying to move as far away from Lilia as possible, which is sad because she brings a lot to the table, especially with her lack of concern for Vermeil’s heritage. While Alto and Vermeil have been weary about anyone at the academy knowing their secret, Lilia is still more concerned about whether she and Alto are doing anything weird together than whether it’d be advantageous to expose her and bring her closer to Alto.

It would’ve been an easy trap for Lilia to lay, but it’s nice to see that she isn’t trying to become an adversarial character towards Vermeil altogether or see Alto’s ambition as something that can be sidestepped in favor of potential getting in his pants. It was pretty neat on Lilia’s behalf that her main takeaway from the aftermath of Professor Obsidian’s rampage was making sure that Alto and Vermeil weren’t blaming themselves for the horrors they had to endure.

KISS ME WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED

Speaking of healing, this was mostly a healing episode as Alto and Vermeil are as interested in clearing things up as they are in snogging. Almost as if to apologize for leaving the last episode on such a chaotic note, this episode was heavily invested in having Alto and Vermeil both reconcile and make out with each other.

It was pretty hilarious to see how ballsy the two had gotten ever since Alto silently confessed to her. It’s one thing for Vermeil to test the waters to see if Alto could kiss her of his own volition at the moment, but the two of them made an Olympic sport out of testing the waters when they started kissing in the hallways. It did take some convincing on Vermeil’s part and it was in a hidden alcove, but it was still humorous to see them automatically jump into PDA now that they’ve cleared the air and patched things up.

BACK TO SCHOOL

Sadly, the episode wasn’t all kissing and cuddling as Alto gets stuck between a rock and a hard place with the Student Council. As Elena seeks answers for Obsidian’s rampage and Kohakumiya’s presence, she sees blood in the water now that Alto has recovered and his connection with Vermeil is restored.

There wasn’t any way around not letting it slip that Vermeil was a demon, but this only gets them within the crosshairs of the Student Council. It seems like a trap at first, but it feels like they’d be the only adversarial characters who aren’t intending on killing him immediately, so it’d be the best bet they have to follow Elena around.

I say this because it looks like the Platinum Squares don’t have the same charitable feel to them. Especially not Iolite, who not only has his own intentions for Alto but also has connections to Kohakumiya, the one responsible for attacking Elena. His assistant Helio doesn’t look like she intends to make peace with Elena or Alto. The Student Council is definitely in the business of using Alto and holding a gun to his head, but it might just be the safest route for Alto for the time being.

  1. I feel pity for Lilia. It is obvious Alto is destined for Vermeil, and Lilia is good enough person to help her own rival.
As for the Platinum mages, this confirmed Obsidian as disk one Boss.
The absurdly powerful student council seems relatively benevolent junta. At least they will coopt Alto instead of executing him…

    1. I’m not sure about them being benevolent, seems to me that Alto may have been invited into the council on the “keep your friends close and your enemies closer” principle.

      1. They are all just arrogant and shady. The whole ‘equality speech’ is just smoke and mirrors. They just want to use Vermil for her powers. I hear Elena is a good guy but personally I don’t see it. I cannot believe inam saying this but I Hope the pink hair tsundere chews her out for her BS. I love it when arrogant witches are humbled.

  2. I like how all the students and us have glossed over the fact that the former professor Obsidian is a maniac.

Also I don’t like the student council in this Anime, they hold too much power. The council feels like a bureaucratic institution created by the school staff under the pretense of displaying a select few children as exemplary students.

Now that Alto is being recruited by the council to “serve the school”. I guess Alto will be the Maverick of the group.

      1. Wel…for a boy his age Alto isn’t really aggressive. So I hope his heartwarming side will help the council grow.

Seriously, from a public perception I couldn’t even higher the council to wait on a bunch of retirees in a restaurant. They seem too cold hearted for a bunch of kids with their whole life ahead of them.

        1. That’s why o don’t want “good heatered” Alto. I want to see Alto sit back and watch Vermail kick their smug assess. Sometimes it is ok to be a jerk if others are jerks to you.
