「女神の試練」 (Megami no Shiren)
“The Goddess’ Trial”

Even during the ‘off-weeks’ (otherwise known as arc introduction) Eminence in Shadow never ceases finding a way to keep me laughing. Among other things. Minimal story sure, what story we have rushed definitely – and don’t forget the obvious foreshadowing – but can you really complain when the humour is as on point as this? That’s right, didn’t think so. After all, the rod never lies.

With how hot springs escapades usually go in this sort of story, oh damn was Eminence in Shadow’s choice of flipped script right on the money. We all know Cid has the personality required for perfection (read: chaos), but to get the one-two punch of Alexia suddenly finding ripped muscular boy who rejected her nonchalantly inserting himself into what could easily be the woman’s side of the pool was fantastic. And the resulting indifference towards showcasing the goods with a towel slap for spice? There may or may not have been tears in my eyes at that one. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: this show knows its comedy and doesn’t waste a moment with it. I can only hope this trend continues.

As for more plot relevant moments, we got a few of those this week as well. In all their glory. Besides the obvious implication of church leadership siding with the literal devil for the sake of whatever power of the moment, there’s also the tantalizing teaser of finally getting something slightly more concrete regarding the Cult of Diabolos. Those Church-created hero antics (as the hinting was pretty heavy here) for example were for more than Cid flaunting his chuuni fantasies to the confusion of others – they were also for opening the door to finding out what the neighbourhood cult may be tangibly after and getting a better idea of how far the conspiracy goes. Make no mistake, full answers aren’t likely forthcoming, but something which encourages Cid to further fantasize on actual reality and get his increasingly large collection of supportive girls doing their thing can only be good, particularly when we’re still lacking the next enemy to go full atomic on.

And as we know, this show isn’t complete until the bombs are going off. Methinks next week is going to be a riot.

  1. Cid : Feels like I’m wearing, nothing at ALL! Nothing AT ALL ! NOTHING AT ALL!
Alexia : G-ah! STUPID SEXY SHIDO!

Good girl Alexia, thinking about her ex boyfriend’s future, hence her attempt to rope him in and reconcile. Btw at the end… her hand gesture… was she attempt to measure the size length and girth of the Excalibur by imagining based on memory? ….. or that towel buttslap was the coolest thing in her life that she want to replicate it?

Everyone in Shadow Garden (at least those who knows Shadow personally like the Seven Shades, the remaining Grecos alphabet, and the distinguished numbered members) must’ve hate Alexia because she is the sole girl who spend school life as classmates with Cid, being confessed personally and having a colorful bright school romance setting while experiencing the heroine like damsel in distress situation while being a bonna fide princess per se. That self-insert within purple prose reek fanfic is sooo painful if i think about it. I’ve read various shoujo manga, but their romance wasn’t too cringy like current shoujo/akujitsu isekai trending nowadays.

All the jokes name, and Annerose as a single frame still image, shown from her back…… I know that he is on later parts, but… Kevin should’ve been added for lulz. Now i get why everyone says that Aurora is best girl for Cid. This ain’t a fight, t’is but a couple having romantic spats consisting of flirting and attempt to seduce each other….. i was distracted with their casual friendly banter in manga that i don’t see it no more than two buddies..

I like Rose and Alexia’s clear looks of disdain.

  2. I’m liking Alexia more and more.
I think it’s the first time Cid replied seriously to her when she proposed to fill in an application form on his behalf. Kinda funny how Rose did just that for the tournament.
