「刹那に賭ける」 (Setsuna ni Kakeru)
“Betting on a Moment”

It’s really hard to believe there’s only two weeks left for Eminence in Shadow, but sadly it’s the case so you know what that means: climax time. And no, we’re not talking this sort of climax. Oh no, it’s all Cult shenanigans for the last inning here, as evil middlemen go up against the best of true masterminds and the wholly ignorant find themselves wondering just what the hell went on. Or, you know, double down on the first sort of climax.

With how hard Cid himself was teasing the fighting festival’s endgame, I’m pretty sure most could guess how his fight with Annerose would go, even if the details were left to the imagination. For all its predictability these moments still honestly entertain me plenty: Cid goes full chuuni (and quite openly at that), does the dirty, and immediately starts planning for more. Couple on unassuming yet fitting scenes like this with Beatrix or even how Cid handled his impromptu view session with Iris and it really gives a nice example of how playing to tropes and stereotypes can work wonders when done without reservation. Let characters like Cid fully embrace who they are, don’t try and take the setup seriously, and both the fun and comedy won’t be long in arriving.

Of course not such humour does require a foundation and in that we also have further movement on the Cult front. Besides Perv Asshat further reinforcing his Cult links (and providing the likely out Cid is looking for in his upcoming fight against Iris) we also have Rose gearing up for another duel of the fates and what is certainly bound to be the next big discovery of Cult objectives. As mentioned before pharmaceutical production isn’t the entirety of Cult operations, they’re after far more than simple powerups or ruling nations through shadowy puppeteering. What specifically is naturally the question, but considering Rose’s current implant predicament I wouldn’t be shocked if it winds up being something like demonic resurrection in vivo.

Sure going to suck when it comes out in the show’s final moments and leaves us with the inevitable cliffhanger, wouldn’t ya say?

  1. Is is just me or is Beatrix isn’t truly invested in searching for her niece (Alpha)? Even if she did find her, why would Alpha go back to her after being exiled from her country for being possessed?

Or is it that no one told Beatrix about that? Which makes sense as if they told her that they willingly throw her niece out, Beatrix would murder them on the spot.

I dunno who said it, but i read that Beatrix’s twin sister (Alpha’s mom) didn’t talk alot about the circumstance that led to Alpha’s situation as she is dying… or dead. On the other hand, Beatrix seems to be aloof airheaded fella who didn’t think too much and seems ignorant about lots of thing (especially social interraction or custom). She only know that her twin sister is dead, and she have a missing niece somewhere and Alpha is the only family’s left. In novel and manga she is considered a destitute vagabond, but seeing the anime shown her casually purchasing and munching Maguronald like Big Smoke…… well, i guess either she is loaded or had no normal sense of consumption.

      On the other hand…
Kinda sad they didn’t show Claire a lot….. but i’m glad they expand quite a number of character’s interaction. Seeing Cid attempting to ignore Beatrix and offered a different Maguronald flavor for her own is really delightful and give a deeper impression of her presence. In manga and Novel she seemed to be suddenly intruding and also quite suddenly put on bus that it hard to follow on her …. especially as she is the only hint left of Alpha’s background story as her character development. But, kinda disappointed that her acknowledgement of Cid’s strength in front of everyone was skipped on this delightful banter. Seems she is not as airheaded and dumb as she look when she hinted Cid’s noticing her earlier.

Damn, Jimina Seinen’s cool dialog “I’m a fool who abandoned everything fo more strength” and “the world is too bright for me” were disrupted by Hyoro Gara’s yell. It was supposed to be touching moment. Iris meeting Beatrix for first time weight better than her introducing to everyone, i think.
