“The Case of the Metropolitan Serial Drownings”
Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri starts its first episode in a straightforward manner as it sets up the eventual partnership between Kamonohashi and Isshiki. Though it’s not aiming to reinvent the wheel as a detective show, Kamonohashi is a fun character to follow with his eccentricities and extraordinary intuition.
TAPPING INTO C’S WORLD
Kamonohashi is definitely the show’s selling point as he leans into the Sherlock Holmes archetype of being an unreasonable, off-kilter detective with keen senses and brilliant deductions. However, the main spice that makes the character stand out is his supernatural capabilities through his eye senses.
Through his eyes, he has access to Geass abilities where he can convince anyone to do his bidding. Even though Kamonohashi is meant to be level-headed, his emotional state can waver to such an extent that his Geass carries the risk of convincing murderers to make irrationally drastic moves.

It makes for an interesting dynamic with Kamonohashi and Isshiki since the former’s skills can only take him so far when his erratic behavior can only be reigned in or tolerated by someone as unremarkable as Isshiki. Isshiki’s body reacts before reason while Kamonohashi’s mind reacts before he can read his own actions.
As such, when you have someone like Kamonohashi who had accidentally convinced a killer barber to take his own life, someone like Isshiki would have to be ballsy enough to try to save the culprit from his partner’s abilities while apprehending him. It makes for a fun duo where Isshiki is forced to play good cop while Kamonohashi’s bad cop routine leads him to lie down next to corpses for a talk or Geass-ing a serial killer off a roof.
Kamonohashi Ron no Kindan Suiri doesn’t aim to reinvent the wheel so much as it creates a smooth, breezy experience that throws small twists into a familiar story. There’s plenty to be excited for, however, since it’ll be neat to find out more about Kamonohashi’s powers, what limitations they may have, how he received them, and what incidents might have led him to remain in isolation until now.
