「Anime Expo 2017」Every year Anime-Expo gets a little bit bigger and this year was no exception. Hi Everyone! Before we dive into this post, I just wanted to take a moment to apologize for the late post. It’s been crazy at work, but after a successful re-launch of a certain game, my schedule has finally returned to normal! Also, due to an SD card completely failing on me, this year’s post will have slightly less pictures than usual. That said, even with all the pictures I had originally, I doubt I could have covered just how big this year’s Anime-Expo felt. General “Information” Anyways, before jumping into some my perspectives, let’s dive into the nitty gritty details. This year’s Anime-Expo once again was held at the Los Angeles Convention Center which is located right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. This year’s convention broke their personal record by hosting over 107,658 attendees and had more than 150 special guests that were mingling with the fans, holding special performances, and leading panels about their upcoming projects. In addition to the normal festivities held at the LACC, this year’s Anime-Expo also expanded their offerings to the nearby JW Marriott, a change that bolstered the number of available Live Panel rooms as well as provided a second mini “game” area for attendees to have fun and take breaks in. At the event itself there were also a lot of Anime-Expo exclusive announcements as well as a ton of ticketed events that had fans coming in by the thousands. Some highlights of this year’s Anime-Expo:
Among all the various events and get-togethers, what really held this year’s Anime-Expo together though was the amazing team of LACC Staff and Volunteers (over 1,700!) who kept everything running smoothly both on the floor and behind the scenes. Clocking in over 80,000 hours of work, these are the people who really helped make this year’s Anime-Expo a fantastic experience. Takaii’s Impressions As an Anime-Expo veteran, there isn’t really all that much that gets me excited about conventions now-a-days. That said, every year Anime-Expo ends up feeling like this great big event that you kind of “have” to go to and this year was no exception. With content bursting out of every single seam of the event, it’d be tough even for a casual attendee to find enough time to do everything. From exploring the ever-growing Dealer’s Hall to browsing the rows and rows of Artist Alley booths, you could probably spend an entire day doing each. But for those of us who don’t really need to or want to spend money, there were enough panels and spontaneous events to make your head spin. With companies like TRIGGER, Sunrise, Fakku, and others hosting panels plus the expansion to the JW Marriott which opened up even more panel rooms for an even wider range of topics, there was something for just about anyone. If I had to pick my favorite moment throughout the event though, it’d probably have to be the TRIGGER panel that I had the opportunity to extend. As per usual, the panel was crazy with tons of enjoyable content as well as Anime-Expo exclusive videos that featured a certain commander-in-chief with some pretty impressive doughy hair. It’s tough to describe if you weren’t there, but never have I seen an entire Live Panel room simultaneously chime in together with the screen as they chanted the name of a certain cop with a flaming head. All-in-all, this year’s AX was a fun endeavor for both new and old fans alike. Hopefully you’ll get a chance to attend, but if not there’ll always be a recap here 🙂 See you at the next convention!

That Pikachu with the hand sticking out scared the crap outta me.
I’m not sure why people want to do it, but that’s actually both my friend on the left and in the Pikachu suit.
It scared me when I saw it for the first time too LOL
The Inferno Cop short wasn’t AX exclusive, they also showed it (premiered it) at AnimeNext in Atlantic City. That’s why he was in NJ.
Glad you had a fun time. Given the size of the lines though I think I may never go to AX.
I feel bamboozled. They edited in Anime-Expo into things apparently OTL
ORE NO ANIME EXPO WA KONNA NI SUBARAMAZING WAKE GA NAIxxx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!xxx
IYA DA!!! IYA DA YO!!! IT MAKES MY MALAYSIAN VISUAL ARTS EXPO A PUNY DWARF IN COMPARISON YA DA!!!
I can’t believe this, all the good stuff. Always happening there. Even Comiket or WonFes can’t hope to compare to Anime Expo…

I notice someone is a Love Live fan. :P. How was the Trigger panel by the way?
Trigger panel was pretty fun, but really crowded and kind of hot.
my personal list:
Hanamaru / Rin
Yohane / Ruby / Kanan
Birb / Umi / Dia
Wow. Time sure flies.
Yup. I feel super old
Thanks for posting these pictures Takaii. There’s so many talented cosplayers around!
I really should attend a convention someday. I just can’t bring myself to do it.
do you live in/near LA or travel to Cali each year for AX
I’d have liked to see Conan o Brien and his team do an Anime Expo special.
THAT PIKACHU ATE SOMEONE?!
Now I know why TRIGGER’s Anime Expo panel was ridonkulous and fun!
A few hours ago, Kazuya Masumoto told the audience that they essentially made a special episode of Inferno Cop as part of TRIGGER’s 5th year anniversary plan in which Inferno Cop was battling Donald Trump wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Fuckin hell, why didn’t he show it at Visual Arts Expo just now!!!!???? Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhh :V
Then again, at least I got some in-between frames for Little Witch Academia~~~ Takaii OH Takaii, did ya get something buddy? I mean, you said that you uh….. “Extended” the panel so I’m genuinely curious as to whatchu did~~~
I’ve been attending Anime conventions since 2005 on the Eastern side of the US. I had heard stories of AnimeExpo being the important Anime conventions and few I went to are just peons—Well, Otakon exceeded it’s attendee at 2016 now needs to change venue.
I hope there will be a Trigger panel this year in Otakon–er did I miss it I wonder?
1. Otakon,
2. Anime USA
3. The Big Apple Anime Convention
– (Coined that way before it was merged with the comicon…)
4. AnimeNext (Resident of NJ)
and there is one more but for the life of me I can’t remember the proper name of the convention. I am drawing a blank. I want to say it was Sakuracon at the Gaylore convention center down at DC. (You can read into Gaylore however you like…)
From what I’ve heard/read as someone living in South-East Asia… The 3 most significant ACG cons in the U.S.A are:
1) Anime Expo
2) Otakon
3) Sakuracon
Watcha think? Wanna give those cons a spin?
Out of curiosity, did you manage to meet YouTubers Noble (Lost Pause) and Rui (ruiruipanda) at AX? (Rui was cosplaying as Ruby Kurosawa from Love Live! Sunshine, BTW.)

Oh yeah, forgot to ask… Takaii… This you again? (O 3 O)
Couldn’t make day 1 after dealing with the JKL concert the night before. Oh well.
