I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.

General Impressions

It’s been a long time since I’ve experienced something as insane as Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro, and I’m loving every single moment of it. To put it simply, this show is exactly what I’m looking for when I watch a show devoted to being completely out there while still throwing in a good chunk of humor to keep things lively.

For this week’s episode, I’ll dive into a few points that really resonated with me. Starting with what came first in chronological order, there’s no way I can’t talk about Chio and the Biker guy. I’m sure we’ve all been there where we’ve encountered situations where we could see ourselves doing something totally out of character and I love that we got to see Chio go straight for it. Acting like a big baddie that didn’t have time to deal with some lowly biker scum, it’s amazing just how powerful psychological intimidation can be when you keep up a façade long enough to deceive someone else. Also, random fact, the Biker Guy’s zipper was not down during the skit.

Moving on to the other thing that almost had me in tears, I nearly died when Chio took an opportunity to really (for a lack of better words) shit on Manana after her scheme to leave Chop behind completely backfired on her. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show truly recreate the sense of power you feel when you get to enact revenge on someone who has wronged you. Which is why I was nearly in tears from trying to hold in my laughter when Chio unleashed her revenge on Manana without a second thought. The best part of it thought had to be how long Chio went on with it since there was a point where you though it would end, but it just kept on going and going. That and I’m glad to hear Omigaw Chiaki’s voice as Manana since it feels like she’s such a perfect fit for it.

Overall, a really strong second episode that did a great job at showing us just how wide the material can go for this show. That and all the subtle references and jabs at various parts of life and society were just so good that it’s tough for me to even point out since they’re all things you think about without actually speaking about. In any case, I can’t wait to see how episode three is since if it’s anything like this, you can bet I’ll be watching it.
