「折れないよ、私は」 (Orenaiyo, Watashi wa)
“I won’t break”

Okay, after last week’s somewhat negative post, I really appreciated this week’s episode. Not only was it fairly grounded in reality, but after having played a ton of Beach Volleyball yesterday, I can totally get behind Kanata’s logic for continuously using pokeys throughout the entire match.

Okay so, diving straight into the episode, I was really happy that the story gave us all the information we needed about Kanta’s insistence on using pokeys. Looking back at it, I suppose it makes sense that when you give the opposing team something that they just have to go for, it makes sense that you could tire them out when they also have to deal with all the extra effort it takes to move around in sand. Luckily, as I mentioned earlier, I had the opportunity to play Beach Volleyball over the weekend and boy is fatigue a real thing when you’re playing seriously. That said, during the actual match, you’re body isn’t really understanding just how hard you’re pushing it since you’re probably too busy ignoring the sun beating down on you as your trying to get sand out of all the places it shouldn’t be in.

All that said, what I might have enjoyed even more than the match itself was how the story managed to reel things in after Haruka and Kanata managed to win. Because when you really think about it, there are probably a thousand different things that Haruka needs to work on in order for her and Kanata to be a truly effective pair. So as much as I would have liked for them to get a bit further in the tournament, I liked that the story isn’t making huge opportunistic leaps as it slowly builds things up for our main pair.

Overall though, I think the story is in a pretty good spot when it comes to where it could go. We’ve seen three matches so far and they’ve all done a pretty good job at explaining the general rules and setup for beach volleyball while also setting up just where Haruka and Kanata are in terms of skill. At this point, I’m really hoping that we’ll be able to see them make larger leaps in improvement as they work toward taking on some of the bigger powerhouses who are out there waiting for them.

In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week. See you then!

JUSTICE IS FLAT!!! Seriously this series accentuates and emphasises the amount of plot and justice served by each character.

This show really feels like a cross between Citrus and Sakura Trick.

  2. About Pokey technique Kanata spammed, Yes, Mai Sunagawa and Ai Tanahara (The team that went up against Haru and Kanata) should have tried to create some kind of plan to counter Pokey. This would help the girls avoid brute forcing victory and incurring exhaustion, since they didn’t they would be considered Noobs and defeat was obvious.

    Side Note:

It wasn’t just Haruka that was confused by what Claire was trying to say, I too didn’t quite understand what Claire wanted to convey. SPEAK! YA blasted women! Use that mouth of yours!
