Now that every show has had several a bunch of episodes to make its case, it’s time to tell you what we’ll be blogging this season. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2018 blogging schedule.
As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season . . . is what we used to say, but with multiple episodes under our belts, we’re pretty confident in our picks. Will some of them flounder down the stretch? It’s happened before. This is what we’re going with for now.
In staff news, let’s get the elephant in the room out of the way: that zero next to my name. Does that mean I, the Great Stilts-sama, is retiring from blogging? Not exactly, though I won’t be blogging weekly this season, and I may not next season either. I’m at a different part of my life than I was when I started writing at RandomC, and when I realized blogging was getting in the way of writing my books instead of helping it, I knew I had to make a change. I’m not disappearing completely, though—I’ll still be around to help with the season previews, make posts like this, I’m helping with the site revamp (which may lead to more content from me, depending on the path it takes), and I’ll be doing intros and the occasional finale post as well, because those are my fav. So I’ll be around, and I might occasionally pull a Zephyr and return to blog one of my favorite series, i.e. don’t start salivating over Boku no Hero Academia yet, fellow writers. Grr!
In show news, we’re covering 13 series, which is about on pace for one of our writers (dats me) taking the season off. We’ll probably recruit a writer or two in the not-too-distant future, so if you’re interested, check out this previous schedule post for details. Because yes, I’m still too lazy to copy them over here.
That’s everything for now. Thanks as always for reading and commenting, and feel free to join our Discord channel if you wanna chat outside of the usual posts. Cheers!
Updates
- 11/8: Guardian Enzo has decided to drop coverage of Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru.
Shocked Irozuku is not being covered given how hyped Takaii was about it.
Then again, it’s been radio silence since the first episode so perhaps it’s not too much of a surprise.
This is actually more par for the course, though. Last couple of seasons RandomC has chosen not to cover some big seasonal shows, but everything big is more or less covered here.
Irozuku was mostly down to scheduling unfortunately, for example I would’ve grabbed it if it didn’t fall on Friday. It’s pretty much the reason for a lot of missed stuff on our end.
Why not get more writers so that more shows have coverage? Honestly, I go to RandomC because it provides me with screenshot previews of episodes. Sometimes, I just skip reading and just interpret the episode by the screenshots.
Oh trust us we’re trying, it’s why Stilts mentioned recruitment here again. Otherwise it’s just down to what time we all have to devote to coverage and this season wound up being bad on that front for a few of us.
I just thought you need might need more writers so that there is no obligation for you regulars to write entries.
It’s harder to find someone to devote hours a week to an unpaid part-time job than you’d think. Or maybe not? You—or anyone else—are welcome to apply and fix the problem. Otherwise we’ll have to wait until we find someone.
How do we apply? My winter and spring are looking to be pretty free, at least.
Read the post above. It’ll lead you to a few links which will give you all the information you require.
That’s surprising. I thought randomc was one of the most popular English anime blog(?)s on the internet. The sites alexa ranking suggests you get significantly times more views than you do comments.
Popularity doesn’t necessarily translate into active interest though. Everyone who visits the site and/or comments here may like anime and watch lots of it, but only a small percentage of them might actually want to write about it, let alone have the time to devote towards it—and that’s before getting into the fact it’s all unpaid. A lot easier just consuming and enjoying the material I imagine 😛
Man, I was really scared about you and MHA, Stilts-san. Your posts on that anime kept me coming everytime. I wouldn’t want it any other way. But I’m at the point in my life where I know how you feel, needing more space than ever.
And damn, I didn’t see it coming that Zombieland Saga is getting covered. Woohoo!
Thunderbolt Fantasy ;_;
I’m sorry. I failed y’all.
Thank you for covering all of my anime this season 😀
It’s okay, Stilts. I understand. Take your time.
And good luck Choya for covering 4 shows.
Thank you, I ended up falling on some good shows and I was too tempted not to take on Zombieland Saga so I’m glad they’re all on separate days so that it’ll be easier to write about them without feeling like it’d pile up.
No 1st impressions for Hinomaru Sumo?
The source’s status in WSJ is a curiosity, apparently because its compiled manga volumes don’t sell well and its popularity in WSJ is just average. Normally WSJ’s editorial board would cancel titles for not being able to make sales (once it passes the initial popularity stage), but Hinomaru’s endurance has suggested rumours that someone high up in the publishers (which is Shueisha) loves the manga and thus keeps it on board. (Likely some old-gen editor who loves sumo; young people into sumo seems much less likely.)
I like Himomaruzumou and I’m covering it at LiA (probably). It’s certainly a by-the-numbers traditional sports series (in more than one sense) but so far at least, it’s going about it the right way.
The fact they’re giving the series 24 episodes suggests they must have some faith that the anime will kickstart the mangas sales? I’m surprised if its sold so low that its on over 20 volumes to date.
Stilts going pseudo-hiatus and a full-site revamp in the works? Sounds like the end of an era here on RC. And wow, does that make me feel old…
It’s okay, I’m keeping the old vanguard alive.
Think about how old I feel :<
Cry me a river. 😛
Times change, new blood fills the void while old regime die.
That sounds much darker than you probably intended. Or maybe not?
Choya is ambitious.
Seishun and JoJo were already a given, but I got hooked on Zombieland Saga and leaving Akanesasu would mean the beginning of the week would be less eventful. The good thing is that weekdays work well for me so they all fell on days where I could take on this number of shows without getting overwhelmed.
Got about half the shows I picked up this season. Not too bad
Maybe it is just appearance wise, but are there less shows covered this season in comparison to last one even if we keep in mind our pervert blogger is not bloggig any this season?
And it seems the moe blogger has the most shows as well 😛
I-I’m not the ecchi blogger!
And yes, there are fewer shows being covered this season. People are free to apply to become writers if they’d like to see that fixed.
I know i am not that versed in writing reviews on a consistant base though, profiles for DnD and the like or those damn big ones for fanons i can manage ( i can show if ya don’t believe me 😛 )but keeping a consistant schedule with the reviews is not something i am that well versed in ^^”
And you are not debating that Choya is our moe blogger then?
I can see that. I wasn’t sure if my show selections were eclectic enough to not have a distinction, but it would feel it of place if I wasn’t covering a moe show, especially in the one season that had Yuru Camp and Takagi. Still like action stuff like JoJo, Persona, or sci-fi anime, but it’s not bad to be considered the moe blogger
i am rather suprised that 3 good shows arent covered (irozoku sekai, juliet boarding school and release the spyce) if i am just a better writer i would cover them 3 but well…
If you’re interested, feel free to submit an application. You might be surprised—and the only way to assure you don’t get picked is to never try.
i am definitely interested “to at least even try” since i have so much free time wasted and i am kinda bored anyway. but, i also know my ability to write so well that even if i do try, i know it will be futile considering the standards required.
but anyway, i remembered that you told me before that RC writers picks anime that are getting covered based on the preferences of the writer and also the free time that is available to that writer. so, it’s a mistake on my part to always think that RC WILL ALWAYS cover all good anime titles per season. so yeah. my mistake.. *sighs*
I look forward to reading your application, then.
Stilts, would it also be allowed to just stick to OVA’s and the like for a while if one decides to appply?
I know way back in the time of omni and divine there was someone who mainly stuck to movies, ova’s and other weird things that didn’t have a regular schedule thanks to how irregular those releases could be and was wondering if that was still an option since i couldn’t find anything about it on the recruiting posts you referenced here for those things.
It wouldn’t solve our immediate problem, which is that we need someone to do a few shows weekly, but it’s certainly possible. In an OVA/movie specialist, I would be looking for someone who’s totally omnivorous (i.e. watches everything), who’s organized enough to know when new OVAs/movies are releasing, and who’s willing to either remind or support other writers when an OVA of one of their series comes out (or just blog it themselves). And, as in most things, two out of three is probably sufficient.
que paso con conception?
It’d be nice to see someone cover the final 13 or so episodes of Fairy Tail when the time comes in the future. Perhaps a staff member familiar with the source material and could tell thereabouts when the show is coming to a close.
As long as “To Aru Majutsu no Index” and “Sword Art Online: Alicization” gets blogged you will have no issues from me
Also I agree with LeBlah I too would like to see blogs on “Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara” three episodes in and I want to see what others think about it.
There is one blog I know of who will be covering IzoDuku>, and they will be doing so in a quarterly manner. Personally, I would’ve preferred to see the Random Curiosity approach, with its screenshots and the like, but it’s good to know that there are others who are covering this one.
Yeah there is only one from TAKII and that is all…
Well, I’m covering it – for now at least. Not fully decided whether to commit for the season though – the next episode is going to tell the tale, I think.
I know your “pain”, but understand that the bloggers here do it in their free time. So Real Life comes first..
or.. do it like me.. if you see that your anime here is not covered. try to start with “SMS” lines (like me) to express the thoughts of your anime on this page. But the “uncles” here will begin to get mad at me…
(Like i do with Double Decker, right now)
Yea I get that Bloggers got lives too, I disappear for a week every two months supporting my soon to be gone companies infrastructure.
Great lineup. Only other one I’d like to have seen picked up is Karakuri Circus, but it’s understandable since it’s a bigger obligation to take on a multi-cour show. Having read the manga, I just know how good it gets.
Just to elaborate on that, I went and looked up the top 10 most popular anime of the season on /r/anime/ (sorting by top weekly) and found that RC is covering 9 of them. (The only one that’s omitted is on Friday, the busiest day of the week.) Amazing coverage.
No coverage for Fairy Tail? That’s just not right.
