「ヴェルドラ日記」 (Buerudora Nikki)
“Veldora’s Diary”
Even with its ups and downs, I think Tenshura has had a fantastic run overall.
Seeing how the last two episodes of Tenshura did a weird side story thing plus we know that there’s a second season coming over the horizon, let me dive into this final impressions post with a two pronged attack. The first part being a quick comment on how I wished the show runners has paced things and the second being a quick overview of a show that I know we all loved.
P.S. Sorry for the late post guys. I’ve been busy with work and am stuck in the East Coast for PAX Easy this week. I appreciate all of your patience and understanding when it comes to my posts being late recently. You guys rock!
Final Impressions
Okay so, I think if there was one small gripe we all might have, it would have to be how the latter part of the season was paced. Compared to the amazing first cour which may have bordered on moving a little too slow at times, the second cour started to lose its luster as it bumrushed through material. Be it the lack of necessary time to flesh out the plot or just too much content being ripped out in favor of moving the story along, I’m sure your feelings were vastly different with Shizu’s kids versus Orc Disaster.
That said, if I could make one tiny request, I think it would have made a lot more sense to slot in episodes 24 and 24.5 somewhere else to have things end on episode 23 where we see Rimuru heading back home. Not only would have it been a great point to kick off season two on, but who knows, maybe with another episode or two the story might have been able to really make this last arc hit a lot harder.
At the end of the day though, I still think Tenshura is a fantastic show that helps give a lot of credibility to the isekai genre. Rimuru, as overpowered as he is, is a fantastic protagonist who manages to stay grounded to earth even though he could easily become the strongest being in the universe. Together with a strong cast of supporting characters who all had their pasts somewhat explained, you have a myriad of personalities for Rimuru’s to bounce off on, making him not only feel more relatable but makes him come off as an overall great guy. Because if we’re being honest, Rimuru (and the Great Sage) is the glue that manages to keep this show held together.
I could go on about the isekai parts of the show, but I can feel a lack of sleep hitting me and I’d rather get this post out this week rather than next week. Let me close things out with a big thank you to everyone who have been keeping up with the posts. You guys make this worth doing and I hope you continue to keep coming back!
And with that, I’ll catch you guys next season where it looks like we have some pretty decent looking shows coming out. See you then!
So, a recap of a recap…
Still a great series (which could’ve been better); Rimuru’s voice
actress carried a lot of it (all of them were above par, IMHO).
Hoping a S2 will be better paced….
Loved the show and excited for S2, but definitely could’ve used a more consistent speed. 1.5x through the whole thing instead of 1x for the first 15 episodes, then ramping it up to 2x for the rest.
I take this show as an example of a weird idea with great personality. On his own Rimuru is just another isekai OP lead, but then he gets smashed against other characters. Not power-wise but with their personalities. He could just say “Shut up! I’m in charge! Black Lightning everywhere!” but that’s not the type of guy he is. Rimuru’s the type of guy you’d want to get drunk and talk about weird stuff with because he’s that rare breed of nut that cares about what others have to say. Plus he knows when his logic isn’t working, even if he doesn’t know what to actually do about it, so he really values the voice of experience even though he’ll definitely put his own Rimuru spin on their advice.
Last thing, but realistically they could start S2 with the political stuff they skipped here since the very end already went off-script, then circle back around.
That would be an ideal situation and if they do that, that it isn’t
killed by too much talk. I’ve read a head a little (WN), and there’s
some pretty entertaining stuff. I guess we’ll see…

Probably missed it but Veldora didn’t comment is past reactions in those episodes.

Based on his anime debut, I thought Ifrit was your typical mindless monster that simply attacks everything he sees, unless he had a reason for going berserk the first time. To think the guy can speak and learn board games.
Once Veldora becomes free, wonder what Ifrit can do. Hope all those other monsters, our slime ate, will keep Ifrit company. I mean, is the Orc Lord around?
The stuff with Shizu’s kids was practically unedited. It was just that badly paced in the source material. For the season as a whole, basically the only dropped material was one diplomatic trip to dwargon, which was basically nothing. The only thing that happened was them getting that dwarf inventor, which they did fine by just having him dumped on them.
So the second bonus episode is NOT a second original story written by the mangaka but a damn, straight clip show!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!??!
