In the past, only the Reader’s Choice poll for the year-end Best of Anime post got an real sort of attention, but I’m leaning towards having something similar every season to see what our readers are looking forward. In any case, I hope the Summer 2010 Preview was helpful in sifting through all the new shows and finding the ones that interest you. I already have a really good idea of what I plan to watch (and of those which ones to blog), but here’s your chance to voice your picks and compare them with others. As always, comments are welcome if there’s anything you want to add about a particular show or the summer season in general.
Note: The same poll will also be available on the sidebar.
coincidentally there are only 3 anime this season that I have good expectations
shiki
ookami-san
high school of the dead
some are optional if I have time to watch them
Heh, exactly the same ones I picked out.
I would’ve picked Senkoku No Basara purely for the manly action, but I have to finish the first season first 😛
There’s actually none that I really want to see that badly. I’m gonna try and watch Kuroshitsuji II and Shiki but other than that…. Not really a good season for me this summer. 🙁
I’m with you on that one. But, maybe half way into the season there might be a show that catches my attention and I’ll marathon it once fansubbed.
i choose…
ookami-san
high school of the dead and seitokai.
but, amagami is most likely going to be on my to watch list also.
I likes Stitch ~Zutto Saikou no Tomodachi~ lol
1) Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
2) Amagami SS
3) Shiki
I’ve heard good things about High School of the Dead but Shiki sounds more appealing to me (since it sounds like a Type-Moon VN lol). The Legend of Legendary Heroes is still an unknown quantity for me.
I should note that the three series I’ve chosen to highlight in this post aren’t necessarily my top 3 picks. They’re just the ones I feel appeal to the widest audiences and will likely be the most popular as a result.
What would yours be? I’m curious.
Almost the same, except I’d pick Seitokai Yakuindomo over HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD.
Those would be my top 3, but The Legend of the Legendary Heroes (Denyuden), Occult Academy, Shiki, and HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD would be close behind (in that order) as they’re not your typical high school romance/drama/comedy series.
I’m looking forward to the SEKIREI and STRIKE WITCHES sequels as well, but the new shows always catch my interest the most and overshadow continuations.
Then there’s Asobi ni Iku yo which I’m watching because it’s sci-fi catgirls produced by AIC, and Mitsudomoe because I found the manga hilarious. They’re not shows that I would look forward to on a weekly basis, but know I’ll end up enjoying. I’m still on the fence about getting into Shukufuku no Campanella, but this should give you an idea of what I’m considering blogging (i.e. more of the former and less of the latter).
Ookami-san, Amagami SS, Denyuden, and Shiki all air on Thursday however, which sucks for me because Kaichou wa Maid-sama is carrying over as well. I’d really like to cover Denyuden and Shiki, but I really don’t see that happening.
@divine
umm i suggest u choose shiki over amagami cus based on the polls shiki’s more anticipated.
but i guess its ur choice.
I’m pretty much more excited to see shiki than amagami evn though im definitely gonna watch both.
Shiki
The Legend of Legendary Heroes
Strike Witches 2
Others are Seikimatsu Occult Academy, Highschool of the dead, and Ookamisan. Other than these six, I don’t care.
1. high school of the dead
2. ookami-san
3. strike witches 2
but i also like to watch shiki, seitokan and kuroshitsuji 2
I’m only looking foward to Shiki. Will give Kuroshitsuji II a shot even though the change of characters bothers me.
Meh.
Nothing really pops.
Really want to watch Digimon to satiate my nostalgic yearnings though
I just hope The Legend of Legendary Heroes doesn’t fall down like sacred blacksmith and so many other fantasy rpg anime before it
I went with: High School of the Dead, The Legend of Legendary Heroes (read some of the manga and found it hilarious), and Asobi ni Iku yo! (mainly because they did amazing things with Sora no Otoshimono).
I’m also intrigued by Shiki, but I think it could as easily bomb as it could be good.
Ookami-san
Sekirei
Setokai Yakuindomo
Shiki
High School of the dead
Seikimatsu Occult Academy – Mitsudomoe
Ookami-san promete tener todo el tufo de Toradora!, al menos espero que sea mucho mejor que ello
dudo mucho que supere a toradora! seria un epic win si sucediera eso
It is: Wolf and 7 Friends, High School of the Dead and Occult Academy for me. HSotD just feels like a spin-off of L4D for me so it’s a win-win situation.
shiki
ookami
kuroshitsuji
Black Lagoon
Zettai Karen Children
Kurenai
I see what you did there…
kurenai OVA does look interesting though.
It was tough but Ookami-san, Mitsudomoe, and Seitokai Yakuindomo from what I’ve seen so far. In that order. I have really high overall hopes for Ookami-san in general, Mitsudomoe looks pretty funny (and I’ve heard good things about its manga), and Seitokai Yukuindomo is just right up my alley.
And the season previews really help. I love ’em. Makes RC a lot closer to a one-stop shop for me. Thanks for all the effort you put into this, it’s really appreciated!
Highschool of the Dead – been waiting for the manga to continue only to be surprised by the anime announcement
Sengoku Basara II – an anime where logic doesn’t apply and stuff pops out of nowhere XD
Legend of Legendary Heroes – feels like geass all over again but with 2 kimokakkoi VA (fukujun and OnoD)
Occult
High School of the Dead
Legendary Heros
high school of the dead for sure!
meehh.. nothing good this season .. MAYBE.. Highschool of the Dead.. if is it any good
Ookami-san
Shiki
These two are pretty much the shows I’m looking forward to this summer. But I still have time to watch others, I’m just not sure which yet.
– Nurarihyon no Mago
– Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
– Seikimatsu Occult Academy
And also: Shiki, Seitokai Yakuindomo and Sengoku Basara.
shiki
ookami-san
high school of the dead
Moyashimon dorama not included, huh… well, it’s not an anime show ^__^;
I plan to check it out myself though! 🙂
Nurarihyon: the manga is nice even without fanservice. I just hope they dont ruin it in the anime.
High School of Death: still follow it every now and then. Just want to see if they can portrait the manga feeling in anime version.
Sekirei: kuu~ and the the main heroin whose name escape me atm.
It was pretty hard to decide the 3 I’m looking forward to the most =P. Although I felt Ookami was a shoo-in due the the popularity of the light novels, the other 2 slots were harder to decide. I ended up voting High School of the Dead since I liked the manga, and the Legend of Legendary Heroes, since the trailers for the anime look rather impressive. Eh, doesn’t matter anyways since I’m watching almost all of them .-.
Had my doubts about HIGH school of the Zombies at first but after seeing the promo i was pleasantly surprised at the high quality old school dark type vibe cant wait…ohh BTW divine, maybe you should put little icons or something next to the NAMES of selectable anime, I’m sure there are other fools like me who see names like ‘Ookami no shinchi, and Nurarihyon no mago’ and have no clue remembering which anime that was hahahahahah!
Hmm, I don’t know if that would be any different from opening the summer preview in another tab and jumping to the series’ corresponding entry using the schedule. I can’t make the voting options direct links if that’s what you were hoping for.
Not really my top 3 but when i have to choose from all of the summer-shows they are Sekirei pure engagement,Gakuen Mokushiroku HIGH SCHOOL OF THE DEAD and Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi. Kuroshitsuji II is already a definite no by the way ^^”
None of them are really my taste :S I’m not a fan of horror, so High School of the Dead and Shiki are out. I might check out The Legend of Legendary Heroes or just watch some really old anime shows I’ve been meaning to watch, like Escaflowne.
Definitely going to watch Gakuen Mokushiroku HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD. I simply enjoy zombie killing like I do in L4D…XD.
Amagami SS, Pantsu Witches 2, and Seitokai no Yakuindomo
Since I like bright, light-hearted anime, Highschool of the Dead is out of the question
C’mon guys. 😐 I know more than (currently) 60 people love Digimon.
That’s what I’m saying! 86 votes for Digimon? Come on! Needs more love.
I also voted for Shiki and Legend of Legendary Heroes. I REALLY hope divine blogs DenYuuDen.
It’s not that people don’t love Digimon (I know a lot that do), it’s that most of them don’t want another season. A lot of the fans don’t like anything past the first two seasons (they consider Tamers ‘okay’ and everything after that isn’t worth watching), so they’re probably not going to even bother with Xros Wars. :/
ookami-san
high school of the dead
shiki
=D
Personally, I’m currently most interested with:
Occult Academy (I liked Anime no Chikara’s works lately)
Legendary Heroes of Legend (Tongue in Cheek fantasy, hopefully won’t take itself as seriously as Blacksmith)
Highschool of the Dead (As noted in my blog, I followed alot of the manga and am interested in what they’ll do with the anime)
Just also should point out that Nurarihyonno Mago is repeated doubly on the poll, like this:
Nurarihyonno MagoNurarihyonno Mago
Hmm, some cut and pasting failure on my part. Thanks for the correction.
What can be good about Highschool Of the Dead? Zombies and girls with panties showing… yeah, ‘awesome’ plot.
I’m looking forward to
Occult Academy (hopefully not worse than Senkou)
Kuroshitsuji II (A bit..)
Shiki
and Tono to Issho (couldn’t include it in mt votes).
Seeing the teenagers struggle being on their own and having to deal with their emotions shifting is rather interesting.
I voted for
1) Kuroshitsuji II
2) Sengoku Basara 2
3) The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
^_^
It’s quite easy to pick out the top three for me:
-Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi : It somehow reminds me of Toradora (which is one of my most favorite animes ever), plus, I am a sucker for any fairy-tale related things.
-Seikimatsu Occult Academy : The plot sounds different from anything that I have seen in animes lately, which is very refreshing. Also, I keep picturing it as a Hollywood movie, and that looks uber awesome in my head.
-Shiki : I am actually not too hot with horror stuff, but I really like the first few chapters of the manga, so I would try to stomach it. Yeah, I know that it isn’t THAT scary. I’m just a chicken.
The others in the list that I might watch are probably: Kuroshitsuji II (as much as the first anime dissapointed me towards the end, I just LOVE butler with glasses! Ah~ fetish…), Sekirei (BOOBIES and a lot of cheese!!!)
I guess that I’m among the few people who aren’t interested in High School of the Dead at all. Zombies aren’t exactly my favorite things unless they are in good satire comedy or Plant VS Zombies. Now that I think about it, an adaptation of Plant VS Zombies should be LOL-ly awesome. Since Japan is about to have Supernatural anime soon, I guess this is a (low) possibility? Japanese people, please make it happen!!!
1. The High School of Dead
2. Shiki
3. Occult Academy.
heh, my 3 choices currently have the top 3 spots…
ill probably watch these if I can have time though
STRIKE WITCHES(when I finish 1st season)
The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
Amagami SS
Seikimatsu Occult Academy
Mmmmeh, the anime this coming season seems pretty mediocre, and I couldn’t get into High School of the Dead, the most well-known title in the list. I thought anime zombies would have been interesting, but various things in the manga are making me shove off of thie particular title.
I’d personally rather get to Fall season already, with Toaru Majutsu no Index Season 2 this October. 😀
Definitely Shiki, Legend of legendary heroes and Seikimatsu Occult Academy.
my top 3 will be
1. SEKIREI ~Pure Engagement~
2. Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
3. Gakuen Mokushiroku HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD
awwwwww heck i think i will also watch
Shukufuku no Campanella
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Amagami SS
Seikimatsu Occult Academy
STRIKE WITCHES 2
Shiki
and Asobi ni Iku yo!
make it 10 for this season HAHA
wow.. people like HOTD?!.. I read the manga too (and somewhat like it), but I didn’t vote for it this time.. I opted for those I didn’t know and seems good..
Looks like votes are spread around.
high school, sekirei and occult academy
gotta like the sound of ‘occult academy’ right?
Nurarihyon no Mago, Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi, The Legend of the Legendary Heroes – in this order
But it looks like I will watch 12 new shows this season. (I started 16 at spring)
horror abounds this summer, but I need my fun dose too and with only 3 top picks…I regret it again and again :c
Still though, it’ll be a fun summer.
HOTD,Sekirei,Shiki
top 3 no more no less
Hey divine, I think there’s something wrong with the poll. I voted but I can’t see the results anymore and I can still cast another round of votes.
Hmm, it seems to be working for me (and preventing repeat voting). Anyone else experiencing this?
i can see the results. but i can also re-vote
It doesn’t say “Thank you, we have already counted your vote” at the top when you re-vote? It may look like it counted it again by showing the results after you click Vote, but you should see that message at the top indicating that it wasn’t.
Well, I guess I’m gonna watch only three shows because I lack free time DX.
Shiki: I’m in love with the manga. It’s really good in building tension. Specially after the huge cliffhanger on last chapter.
Ookami-san: I’m kinda curious about the adaptation of the classic tale. Plus a tsundere girl is just my piece of cake.
The Legend of the Legendary Heroes: FukuJun voicing another dude with Geass? Count me in!
I *might* pick up Amagami SS only if it’s good enough. But that would make 4 shows, not 3.
3 aint enough man, i seriously have to prepare fot this summer’s onslaught!
Ookami-san was an obvious choice, and High School of the Dead I have to see if only because zombie survival horror as an anime intrigues me. I also voted Legend of the Legendary Heroes after seeing the promo material (thanks for that), so I hope it doesn’t turn out like Tales of the Abyss or The Sacred Blacksmith.
Voting aside, I intend to check out 12 of the 18 series, so even if this season isn’t the greatest I’m sure to find something worth watching.
I only vote for :
Asobi ni Iku yo!
Amagami SS
Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~
and I’m supposed to vote :
Shukufuku no Campanella
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
Seitokai Yakuindomo
and I’m not voting for :
Mitsudomoe(because of issues)
I’m looking forward to…
1- Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
2- Seikimatsu Occult Academy
3- Seitokai Yakuindomo
i think i will also watch Mitsudomoe
Highschool of the dead all the way!
My summer is done for.. T_T
Why do I feel like there’s nothing good to watch this season…?
Other than Ookami-san, I don’t think I’ll be watching anything else.
I’ll watch the first 2 episodes of everything !
votes went for
1. Sekirei – Kusano !!!! <3 Uzume <3 the firsrt season was great the only draw back is the excessive boobage.
2. Strike witches no-pan multi national flying magic shooter can it be more complex lol
3. Setokai Yakuindomo – mostly because I like Kaicho maid-sama wonder how the reversal will come out.
and of course all the show from spring that keep going. (giant killing, k-on, Kaicho )
HIGHSCHOOL of the DEAD!!!! i can’t wait for the volume 6!
1 – Highschool of the dead (Zombies… and moooore zombies…)
2 – Shiki (Mystery with Vampires = PureWin)
3 – Legend of Legendary Heroes (The return of Lelouch…. or not)
1 – Highschool of the Dead (Love this manga)
2 – Legend Of The Legendary Heroes (Fukuyama Jun always awesome)
3 – Shiki
My Choices:
1. Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
2. Amagami SS
3. Seitokai Yakuindomo
I’ll admit I have a thing for those titles that potentially have a sappy romance element in them, and these ones look like they’ll have it.
not really into moe & ecchi but I might watch highschool of the dead just because I’ve seen the manga. And kuroshitsuji 2 because… it’s kuroshitsuji. 🙁
it’s not kuroshitsuji without sebastian and ciel. T_T the new butler looks like he has no sense of humor and the new kid just looks like a snot-nosed brat. :/
Man High school if the dead!!! If you read the manga you would see why! I am actually really excited about this series.
I chose Seitokai Yakuindomo, Amagami SS and Shiki. I’m also going to watch Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi… yet, I’m really not too interested in any of these. But still hopeful, there might be something that’d surprise me.
I’m suprised strike witches didn’t get more votes. I loved that series. Although I’m really looking forward to highschool of the dead, I left it out in favor of these 3:
1. Strike Witches 2
2. Amagami SS (I liked Kimikiss alot, so I’m hoping this is much the same)
3. Ookami-san (Seems interesting)
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Seikimatsu Occult Academy
Then after that Shiki, High School of the Dead, Amagami SS, and Mitsudomoe. Maybe Asobi ni Iku yo! since AIC seems to be on a roll. Yay for full plates~ Still, in the end I’ll probably be looking forward to Kaichou wa Maid-sama! and K-On!! episodes more than anything else. lol Guess I’ll wait and see.
High School of the Dead, yeeeaaaahhh.
High-school of Dead and Shiki.
1. ookami-san
2. occult academy
3. seitokai yakuindomo
i considered “high school of the dead” for a brief second, but seeing how much gore there was in the trailer i could tell it’s not going to be a series i’ll enjoy. plus zombies in general are gross to look at. D: but clearly the general populace is not as prone to images of rotting corpses keeping them awake at night as i am.
High School of the Dead
Amagami SS
Shiki
Black Rock Shooter.
Hey, same here I’m actually listening to the theme song right now, haha
Hard to pick 3 but if I really have to pick then is
1. Amagami SS
2. Gakuen Mokushiroku HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD
3. The Legend of the Legendary Heroes
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi and Highschool of the Dead seems popular.
Shiki, >_>…Yay.
Oh and after seeing the preview of The Legend of Legendary Heroes has hooked me.
WHERE ARE MY MECHA ANIMA THOUGH!
Oh and Seitokai Yakuindomo was funny when I read the manga… so I may watch it. I’ll also approach Strike Witches with caution… honestly would want a Sky Girls Sequel instead.
sky girls sequel gogogogo!
Not looking too great this time around. Then again the season just ending had a few surprisingly good anime’s so I’m going to stay hopeful for now.
A general rule of thumb I go by is to avoid any shows (at least at first) who’s promotional posters have pants and torn up tops. Those shows rarely end up being any good. – which rules out a few from the list 😛
My three are:
-Sengoku Basara (who doesn’t like a little japanese history lesson)
-High School of the Dead (aimation quality seems to be the highest)
-ookamisan to shichinin no nakamatachi (toradora remake lol)
Ookami, Seitokai, and Amagami/legend of the legendary heroes tied for third for me!
This past season was amazing with Working!, Angel Beats, etc. Hopefully this coming season will surprise me too. Plus we always have K-On!! to fall back on if things get really boring =D
i guess everyone just love zombis horror thing. 20%.
My choices were
1)High School of the Dead: Come on, if nothing else, it’s made by Madhouse, which is usually a good sign. Plus, anime horror is usually better than other anime genres (at least in my experience) ex. Elfen Lied, Vampire Hunter D, Vampire Princess Miyu, When They Cry, hell, you might as well include Kara no Kyoukai for good measure. It’s much more difficult to scare people with animated things than it is real things, so usually good storytelling picks up the slack. May not be for this one, but hey, as I said, it’s Madhouse.
2)Ookami…: It’s by the same guys who made Toradora. Which means it most likely won’t be bad. Most people seem to agree with me on this one, so I’ll stop preaching to the choir.
3)Shiki, see number 1 for details, and the fact that it has a higurashi vibe to it, which is good. Plus it’s on the noitamina block, so from what I’ve seen from the block thus far (decent, if not good shows) this one may be a winner. No competition from Durarara either, so that’s a good sign for the show.
Honorable mention goes to
Legend of the Legendary Heroes: This one doesn’t seem to bad at all. When was the last time we got a good fantasy anime that doesn’t look like it will be simply for fan service? That’s what the promotional videos have suggested, so I think it will be good. We’ll see though.
I just wanted to clarify for others that Ookami-san and Toradora are by different authors, namely Okita Masashi and Takemiya Yuyuko. The anime adaptations look similar because they’re both produced by J.C. Staff and feature characters designs by Tanaka Masayoshi.
Edit: The character designs in Ookami-san are actually done by Iizuka Haruko.
i went with shiki,ookami-san and occult academy.i’m interested in kuroshitsuji as well, but maybe i’ll check it out after i finish the first season ^^
This season doesn’t really seem promising to me at all, the only anime I really want to check out is Gakuen Mokushiroku HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, the rest doesn’t seem worthy of my time although I will end up watching all of them XD
Sekirei, Ookami, and Digimon are at the top of my list for this upcoming season! <3 Amagami also looks like fun.
I’m only looking forward to high school of the dead.
Ookami-Sam
Shiki
high school of the dead
😀
I’m not looking forward to any series, :I Imo, they all look like crap.
Go OVAs and movies! ^q^
seems like a lot of guys really prefer my choices:
ookami-san
shiki
high school of the dead
since they’re still currently the top 3…maybe because I got the first comment?
more of my list
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Nurarihyon no Mago
SEKIREI ~Pure Engagement~(if I can get around the 1st season)
…would be if not for school
Woah, I voted for HSOTD, Ookami-san and Shiki too!
First, please explain why Cat Shit One and Black Rock Shooter are not on this list?
Black Rock Shooter because it’s an OVA.
Cat Shit One because uh… it s not really “anime” even though it’s animated.
