「宿題の夏⇔祭りの夏」 (Syukudai no Natsu to Matsuri no Natsu)
“Summer Homework ⇔ Summer Festival”

If anything, it feels as if Acchi Kocchi seems to be continuing its effort to slowly pull itself together by aiming for more consistent and coherent skits. Instead of getting hit with random humor in the form of robotic gadgets or Sakaki someone getting propelled into space, the characters themselves seem to be doing a good job at grabbing the audience’s attention with their unique quirks. But they’re not stopping there — all the synergy that occurs between certain pairs seem to be just getting bigger and better.

Take Sakaki and Io for instance. When the two aren’t busy competing against each other in a battle to the death, it’s a bit surprising how well they get along with each other. Because until this episode, I never thought that the two were competing in a friendly manner. But after watching just how friendly and well coordinated they can be with one another, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to look at the two the same ever again. While it may take away from some of the humor that I love whenever I watch Sakaki draw the short end of the stick, I honestly don’t mind this slight shift toward less humor. Because not only does it showcase how the characters are growing and evolving but with less humor means more relationship building!

Unless you haven’t noticed, the amount of humor and fuwafuwa moments seem to be inversely related. Whenever an episode doesn’t have some sort of over the top joke that tries to break the rules of physics in some way, there tend to be a lot more cute and sometimes heartbreaking moments. And if this episode was any example of this, there were too many to count. From smelling pillows covered in Io’s scent to trying to leave a kiss mark on his exposed neck — what more could you ask for?

Seeing how next week’s episode will focus on the annual school festival and our group’s attempt at setting up a booth, can you imagine how out of hand things could get? I suppose we’ll have to wait until next week to see what kind of contraption Mayoi will have whipped up to get things a little more lively.

    1. Io has attracted kittens and goldfish. Next he needs to attract baby birds.

Maybe he will be present when a bunch of them hatch, and they will all imprint on him.

  2. This is one of those series that sneaks up on you.
I thought it would be a nowhere romance, but there’s
a gentle progression happening. Don’t know how far
it’ll go, but sometimes you just don’t care, either…

  3. I’ll never stop loving this show >3 It was great to watch it after seeing the Another OVA. I did wonder though why with all her skills Mayoi didn’t just fix the A/C herself? Also great to see Tsumiki’s cat spirit come out again. Really looking forward to the next episode.
