Mirai Nikki – 10
「家族プラン」 (Kazoku Puran)
“Family Plan”
This episode is proof for me that a director doesn’t have to make a word-for-word adaptation of a manga for it to be a good adaptation – or a faithful one. Manga is not anime, and the same structures that work well with one don’t always work with the other.
Last Exile -Ginyoku no Fam- – 09
「Connected passed pawn」
With episode 9 of “Fam”, it’s another case of taking the good with the bad. That’s pretty much become the norm with the series, so it doesn’t come as a surprise so much as a bit of a letdown.
UN-GO – 09
「海勝麟六の犯罪」 (Kaishō Rinroku no Hanzai)
“Kaishou Rinroku’s Crime”
With only two episodes remaining after this one and so many unanswered questions hanging over things, it seems very likely that this is the arc that will take us to the end of the series. If so, they’ve chosen to go out with what looks to be a good mystery.
Hoshi o Ou Kodomo
「星を追う子ども」 (Hoshi o Ou Kodomo)
“Children Who Chase Lost Voices From Deep Below”
I honestly don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Shinkai Makoto is the most important anime director in the world. But while I’ve been arguing for years that the endless examples of him being called “The Next Miyazaki” were off base, it appears as if Shinkai-sensei may have taken them to heart.
Chihayafuru – 10
「ゆくもかへるもわかれては」 (Yuku mo Kaeru mo Wakarete wa)
“Exchange Hellos and Goodbyes”
I’m convinced at this point that grouchy old Miyauchi-sensei knew exactly what she was doing when she forced the Karuta Club to name Taichi as President. And right now, she looks like a friggin’ genius for doing it.
Mirai Nikki – 09
「着信拒否」 (Chakushin Kyohi)
“Blocked Call”
Tons of interesting stuff this week, but first things first – who would have thought it was actually the good Yuno we’ve been watching until this week?
Last Exile -Ginyoku no Fam- – 08
「Distraction」
I certainly hope Gonzo has those little financial issues worked out, because they dropped a whole lot of yen on CGI with this episode.
UN-GO – 08
「楽園の王」 (Rakuen no Ō)
“The King of Paradise”
If you have the time, it’d certainly be an interesting experience to re-watch episode 7 in light of everything we were told today.
Chihayafuru – 09
「(しのぶれど」 (Shinoburedo)
“But I Cannot Hide”
I know this is just an anime, and the way we interpret it is a matter of opinion and subject to personal tastes. But I’ll say this – anyone who wants to argue that Chihaya doesn’t belong with Taichi, I’ll fight you right now. Name the time, name the place – I’ll be there. And in true shounen style, I’m willing to battle to the death.
