Shin Sekai Yori – 12
「弱い環」 (Yowai Tamaki)
“Weak Link”
Horrifying brutal and intensely tragic, Shin Sekai Yori makes me wish more shows could handle exposition like they do.

”What do we do with all this money, Issac?” |
You’d think with a premise like prohibition-era-mafia-meets immortal-alchemists-in-a-pulp-epic more people would’ve watched this show. Welcome to day 9, and by the end, you’ll be wanting a fedora.
「冬の遠雷」 (Fuyu no Enrai)
“Winter’s Thunder”
It’s not a particularly standout episode of Shin Sekai Yori after the last two’s double dose of awesome, but this will go down as the episode that gave me confidence the team knows exactly what they’re doing.
「闇よりも」 (Yami Yorimo)
“Than Darkness”
You’d have to be pretty cold-hearted not to feel the least bit sympathetic for Shun and Saki.
「風立ちぬ」 (Kaze Tachinu)
“The Gale Came”
Easily the best episode since the stunning premiere, 09 marks a brilliant return to the earlier episodes’ atmospheric and suspenseful presentation.
「予兆」 (Yocho)
“Omen”
Time jumps! Who doesn’t love time jumps and the way they change up the dynamics of a story? But, boy oh boy, I don’t think I could’ve ever been prepared for what Shin Sekai Yori was going to deliver exactly with this whammy of an episode.
「夏闇」 (Natsu Yami)
“Summer Darkness”
The kids are finally reunited as we come to the end of a great first act, but the real problems for the kids are only just beginning.
「逃避行」 (Tohiko)
“Getaway”
The episode title might seem to suggest one thing, but fact is this episode goes an entirely opposite direction to give us Shin Sekai Yori at its most action-packed yet.
「逃亡の熱帯夜」 (Tobo no Nettaiya)
“A Sweltering Night on the Run”
Following last episode’s game-changer, Shin Sekai Yori is upping the ante considerably on all fronts. The characters are seeing quite a bit of action – in more ways than one – and the scale of the story is getting larger than ever. And the best part? We’ve barely scraped the surface of this show.
「血塗られた歴史」 (Chinurareta Rekishi)
“Bloodstained History”
The reveal of Shin Sekai Yori‘s bloodstained history brings a change of pace to the show as developments start kicking in and the cogs of the story start moving. All signs point to one hell of a ride.
