「魔女への訪問者」 (Majouhe No Houmonsha)
“A Visitor For The Witch”
After a surprisingly well-done first episode, J.C. Staff doesn’t disappoint with this second one.
The Harbinger of Spring
When it comes to magic, I suppose it shouldn’t be a surprise that more than just witches and screaming mandrake plants exist out there in the wild. However, who would have thought we’d get to see something as spiritual as the Harbinger of Spring? Because as abstract of the season changes is, it was pretty cool to see the personification of spring be such a swell guy. That said, I probably would have been just as afraid as Chinatsu if not more had I seen someone that looked like the Harbinger. With all kinds of creeps and wierdos out there doing god knows what, I probably wouldn’t have even opened the door for someone wearing a slightly cracked mask and some weird (but stylish) white clothing.
A Witch’s Intuition / Day-to-Day Life
Coming back down to reality throughout the latter half of the episode, it was nice to see Flying Witch really show us that it can do a proper slice-of-life with or without highlighting Makoto or her magic. With something as simple as picking some fresh bakke and making some home made tempura from it, there was a ton packed in such a simple premise. From fleshing out Chinatsu through her disdain for the stuff to Kei giving us some prime tips to make really crispy tempura, what more could you really ask for?
Looking Ahead
While this show still has at least one more episode before I can really make a decision, I’ve been enjoying what I’ve seen thus far. The flipping between magic and normal life combined with the quirks of all the characters really playing well off of each other, there hasn’t been too much to talk down about. That said, I do hope that something exciting happens soon to really kick things up another level.
See you next week!

Getting some Aria the animation relaxation vibes from this series 🙂
I’m actually really enjoying this show. It’s so relaxing, the funny bits make me chuckle, and the main characters are so…chill.

I was laughing a little too hard here since i think everyone can relate to eating “grown-up” food.
I was holding off until the 3rd episode to marathon this show to see if i’m gonna stick around, but i think the kiki’s delivery service memories are gonna do it for me.

I’m also very happy that she isn’t a hopeless airhead who just happens to have overpowered magical powers. Just the little moments where the difference between her and her classmates is definitive – the mandrake in the first episode and the friendly welcoming of the harbinger while imouto was extremely hesitant – make her a character i can fall for and not feel like a scumbag.
Such a chill show. My god. Spring is looking damn good.
I absolutely love this but I still feel it’s missing some of that wonderful magic Aria and NNB had. Whether it’s in the overall execution of the scenes or its inherently mundane slowness.
Makoto…and Chinatsu…too…cute…together…
I kinda love the contrast between Kei’s unenthusiastic voice and other character’s.
Has anyone else noticed that MC’s design looks so similar to Miho from Bakuman?
And Chitanda from Hyouka.
This may sound odd, but one of my favourite scenes in this episode is when Kei is tugging on Chinatsu’s face. It’s so nice watching an anime where siblings actually act like they’re, well, siblings. I’m also loving all of the expressions. Reminds me of Yotsuba&! a bit. 🙂
Stay tuned, there are more characters coming to add to the fun.
Don’t forget to watch the shorts, Flying With Petit (or Puchi, depending on where you’re looking.) Sort of the bobble-head version of the show, I guess?
This is the chillest show in a season with an incredible number of chill shows in it. SoL banzai!
*Goes back to re-read the manga.*
Frying Witch! The bakke or whatever that thing is actually grossing me out. Having that extra flavor from the dog made it worse :/
I think you missed the point that the ones around the pole
were not picked. And they were washed in their preparation.
Anyway, this is my favorite quiet-time type of show this season…
This show is a real treat and flew under the radar for me. Did not know the source material and I am pleasantly surprised t how good it is (kinda like Konosuba did last season).
