「なにどしの方なのですか?」 (Nani Doshi no Katanano Desuka? )
“What Year Is She?”
Have you ever had your expectations so subverted you felt violated? That was me this week.
First and foremost, let me take a second to express how happy I am to hear the amazing Kugimiya Rie has Kagura. As a huge fan of hers since way back when, I can’t think of a better person to play someone as crazy as Kagura. Flipping between cute and violently cute, her charm as someone who plays the best tsunderes really sells just how much she cares about Kyo while also letting just the right amount of crazy show when she’s knocking the crap out of him.
Voice actresses aside, this week’s episode gave us a nice look into Kyo and more of the struggles he’s faced through the eyes of someone who’s been with him since childhood. Under the guise of showing us a new character that just happens to have a huge crush on Kyo, I really appreciated how the story dropped little hints about things to come. The biggest of which had to be the “true form” that Kagura hinted at while trying to describe all the things she loves about Kyo. A true form that must have some real negative implications with it based off of how Kyo stopped her from saying any more even though he must have known he’d be putting himself in danger by getting so close to Kagura.
That said, bigger problems like that can be saved for later since it felt like this week’s episode wanted to end things on a happy note by showing us just how happy Kyo can look when he manages to escape all of the problems that typically weight him down. Just like Tohru said, there’s definitely something special about seeing both him and Yuki just smile without letting reality get to them. Unfortunately, it looks like things are about to make a hard left toward despair and heartache based on Tohru’s reaction to the phone call she took at the end of the episode. Hopefully it’s not too bad!
In any case, I’ll catch you guys next week. See you then! P.S. Love you 3000.

What do you think of this more faithful version of Kagura as opposed to Kagura of the 1st anime?
I’ve seen comments elsewhere saying this Kagura is way more annoying and unlikeable.
Guardian Enzo even commented he feels the 1st anime helped to smooth Kagura’s edges (and the mangaka’s rough comedy) into something more palatable.
She has been always like this. But is not different from from the first anime, I think the VA does more than the animation. The original anime had a softer voice.

Human helicopter.
Those are good times 🙂
Easily the best visual gag so far. Being in the background just adds hilarity to it.

Is this our tsundere VA Queen Rie Kugumiya?

This time, there were some differences compared to the manga. But it’s still fine. Kagura as a little pig is so cute!!! ^^
What difference? I mostly check the difference from the 2001 ver and 2019, there Kagura imo was indeed more annoying cause she ruin way more stuff, in the first season she also was horrible at cooking and housework (she ruined the entire house there), and there they did end up order food over let her cook things, which makes me wonder if that was the stuff the anime changed from the manga.
Also really glad to hear Rie again, since Zero and Shana days it seem as if she completely disappeared from any major role let alone tsunderes
I do love these variation scenes where it’s a bit different yet familiar.
