The town meeting is called – what should be done about this Satoko situation? It becomes a sticky situation that stretches beyond the abuse of a little girl – the Houjou family were the one that adamantly protested the construction of the Hinamizawa dam, and any abrupt action may be seen as an attack on the Houjou family, even though the dam project was completed years before. It’s a network of fear, mistrust, and closely guarded reputations, with its roots all the way down to the Shinozaki family – with onibaba at the helm.
Keiichi decides the only way to actually get something to happen is to go to the source – he storms into the meeting and makes his declaration – are you with me or are you against me! The men don’t take too well to such insolence, and start spewing crap, until Shion steps in and flexes her political muscles by making note of some shady dealings within the local government. Keiichi continues by saying that Satoko is a member of their village – everyone should band together and help her!
All that’s left is… convincing onibaba to take action. Rika… is getting hope again!
Well, the meeting with onibaba goes something like this:
– Help Satoko, she’s getting pwned
– Wtf, you waste my time on this trivial bs
– Hi, I’m Maebara Keiichi, if you don’t help her I’ll smash your brains in and have Mion succeed you so she’ll say yes
– You little cunt, I’ll slash you to bits
– I don’t care what you say, just help her you old hag
– Ok
On the way back, Rika asks Keiichi if Satoko can really be saved from this fate. Well, yea, he says – and don’t use the word fate so easily! It’s obviously not the case.
So the phones start ringing and the bureaucracy starts to move – slowly. Until the entire village gathers in front of the child services office and work their falungong magic. It doesn’t work too well and are just ignored… until a call comes in from the mayor’s office. A call is made to the Houjou house.
Meanwhile, Satoko is getting her ass kicked and whines for her nii-nii.
Thoughts
So the proper authorities are finally on their side, and the call has been made. At this point, I’m thinking several things:
– What if he doesn’t pick up the phone?
– Why is the whole town so afraid of this one loser?
– Why didn’t Satoko move all the stuff out of nii-nii’s room when Teppei wasn’t there?
– Oh boy, only two more days until Lucky Star!
Anyways, considering that we’re not even halfway through the series, this is setting up for some epic failure. Even with the entire town behind their cause, something is bound to go wrong (or it might just be too late), and everyone just ends up dying again. Poor Rika, all this stuff going for her this time around and she still can’t make it happen – so what’s gonna happen when things don’t fall in place the next time around?

FIRST!
looks like a funny episode
look forward to watching it
I think this arc moved away from “funny” a while ago…

Hail to the great victory

I hope this will end happy.
This one i like… a LOT!!!! Yay, onibaba!!!!! Btw, regarding the preview… OMG!!!! I can’t believe it!!!! Damn the person who posted that spoiler comments in one of the earlier episode’s blog though… but still… the story is finally unfolding, yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need to get Satoko’s uncle…Hinamizawa-style (shion+mion = whip+finger nail plucker v2.0, keichi = bat, rena = the big-ass-knife-thingy…We’ll get rika to make sure there’s always a continuous flow of chilli pepper to his eyes, and Satoko can have the honour of pushing him off the bridge).

PWNED
This isn’t going to end happy. I just know it. Something’s going to go wrong and a tragedy will happen again. The question is figuring out who is behind all the tragedies and the murders. There is a reason why this arc is called the Massacre chapter. Minagoroshi-hen or something like that.
Heh, I think I saw this episode before you did, jaalin.
To be honest, I thought the arc was going to end with it’s epic ending. Guess I have to wait another week.
i think their wasting time on this particular part of the arc. theres only so many episodes you can make with the two final arcs in the second season. so their unnecessarily dragging out this annoying little part. oh and:

ya… because if it isn’t boring, it would be non sense huh?
I’m wondering if you actually see the cohesion with the old arcs, as how Satoko and RULE Z are very peculiar in Hinamizawa.
You wanted Keiichi being able to storm in the houjou house like Rambo? oi this is Higurashi, not a dumb shounen or anything of that sort. They have a large amount of episodes available, so why rushing the pace? How it is “dragged” considering there isn’t many dead time, where “nothing happen”, while it is the opposite?
I fail to see the “boring”… maybe lack of empathy?
– Why didn’t Satoko move all the stuff out of nii-nii’s room when Teppei wasn’t there?
I think Satoko wants to keep the room untouched. She wants Satoshi to come back and see that the room was in the state he left it so he’ll understand that she was waiting for his return all this time and never forgot about him.
fair enough dmo
too bad she’s too selfish to realize that she’s giving her friends (the ones who would never ditch her) an enormous headache.
Unfortunately, Satoko is also in that reclusive state anyways.
As for the town being afraid of Teppei, they’re not as far as I remember. I think it was that they consider his return a punishment for Satoko because she’s still a Hojo.
Oh boy, only two more days until Lucky Star!
FAIL.
Did you even watch the show? Nobody is scared of her uncle. People are scared of Mion’s family. Nobody really hates the Houjo’s anymore, but there is fear that if they support Sakato it’s going to be bad things for them. Satako also wants the room there because she thinks he won’t come back if his room isn’t like that. It’s the room, not the stuff. It’s also not as simple as her leaving anyway. This episode shows how HARD this whole thing is. Some people say why don’t they just go take Satako. Well, she wants to stay for her Nii-Nii and protect his room. Why do the adults not do anything. Well, they are scared to do anything.
i just realized i read this…
the Houjou family were the one that adamantly protested the construction of the Hinamizawa dam
we seriously didn’t watch the same episode, or even the same show. It has been said at least twice they were SUPPORTERS of the dam war in season 1, and it was even reinforced in Yakusamashi-hen and even now…
any abrupt action may be seen as an attack on the Houjou family, even though the dam project was completed years before.
I do hope the houjou family was really a whacky typo or something… and even that, that mention doesn’t make sense at all.
and your “digest” summary of the confrontation between keiichi and oryou is really dubious, huh well…
no seriously, tell us something: did you watch the first season and actually pay attention to what really happen in season 2? No offense, but i’m really wonder about this, considering this and last week “summary”.
Any abrupt action may lead to a clash between keiichi’s faction against the unexistent houjou haters. Remember of the minagoroshi prologue? *sigh*
–This is the most drawn out arc Higurashi has ever done….
As it has been said before, it is not that this arc is drawn out. It is that the previous arc’s were overly rushed. Higurashi is not a history about killing or about the horror. It is a story about friendship and the struggles such friends make to get their well deserved happiness. Seeing it with that mindset will enable to see not only this arc is not only well paced, but maybe it is a little rushed itself.
Oni baba is creepy as hell
klashikari: oops.
Another gr8 episode.
K1 saying he might kill oni baba… man, he’s brave.
I don’t remember him ever saying “I’ll kill you”. But it does go along the lines of “plz help” and “no, fuck you”.
