Summary:
It’s summertime, and Kobato is interested in an upcoming festival. In the meantime, she happens to run into a girl named Natsuki and her friend Yukino. Because Natsuki lends her a handkerchief, Kobato gets involved in the two girls lives and learns of the growing distance between them. The two used to be really close, but Yukino has been spending more and more time on her photography. Kobato learns from Yukino that the two girls once went together to a summer festival and picked out cell phone straps for each other. Natsuki still has hers, but Yukino’s has changed hers out for one with a camera attached to the end. On the day that Yukino goes to buy a real camera, she runs into Natsuki, and Natsuki ends up saying some hurtful things. Seeing this, Kobato tries to talk to Yukino first, but Yukino doesn’t want to talk. When Kobato goes to see Natsuki, she finds the girl desperately searching for the cell phone strap because she thinks she’s lost it, and she regrets what she said earlier. Fortunately, Kobato is able to help her find the strap, and she has Natsuki send a picture showing that she still has it to Yukino. Yukino in turn reveals that she’s been wearing her strap around her neck this entire time, and the two girls reconcile and attend the summer festival together, thus earning Kobato two more konpeitou.

Plot-wise, this episode was decent. It was nothing terribly surprising and even a bit predictable, but it was still a nice story about two girls’ friendship during summertime. I found the wet Ioryogi scenes to be really cute too. Of course, the main draw of the episode for me was actually Kawasumi Ayako voicing Natsuki. Long-time readers probably know that I enjoy her voice-work a lot, and I’m not currently watching anything else she’s in, so this was a nice treat. Like I said back in episode three though (when Inoue Marina voiced Mutsumi), it’s a shame the series is so episodic and that these are all one-shot characters. I guess could say that about the plot in general too because I’m still itching for something a bit more substantial to happen instead of just seeing Kobato healing dozens of people.
I never really noticed until this episode by Kobato seems much more cuter than usual. o.o
It’s a bit of a let down that we won’t be seeing these two characters again from this ep; thought it was a nice touching story about two friends. =)
this is really overrated…kobato & fairytail are both overrated
Every new chapter of Kobato is released monthly in which Ohkawa said that she wants everyone to enjoy the story. So, the manga plot is a bit slow.

I enjoy both Kobato and Fairy Tail. You should try and find other animes you might enjoy. Not everyone is going to like every anime.
This is no different from Madhouse also taking their time on Cardcaptor Sakura. Remember how often there has been a significant plot development? Yeah.

Admit it, Omni, you like this episode because of the yuri potential. lol
I knew Natsuki sounded familiar. Anyone know who Yukino is voiced by? As a seiyuu follower, it’s quite annoying when the streamed raws on MooCube have lately taken out the OP and ED credits for Kobato. Perhaps I should stop being such a lazy leecher. :p
