「水の都のトラブルメーカー」 (Mizu no Miyako no Toraburumeekaa)
“Troublemakers of the City of Water”
Mid-seasons are always great for a change of pace, something explosion central hasn’t forgotten either as it enters its latter half. For all we know the drill now when it comes to Megumin being Megumin and doing, well, Megumin things, there’s always room for imagination, and I dare say we got it again this time. After all, what’s not to like about nostalgic trips abroad?
Given Konosuba’s second season focus on Arcanreita, the home of Aqua’s own personal church/cult/desperate seeker of rents and tithes, it’s quite funny seeing a return to it all in what technically is a prequel story. All the major points were certainly on display, whether it be the Aqua-Eris duel of the fates (read: combative recruitment drives), Cicily’s own, shall we say, impassioned determination, or the always chuckle-worthy antics of priestly head honcho Zesta and his flock. Oh and the Wiz teasing, don’t forget that important bit. Plus having Megumin basically pull all the jokes that Kazuma once did during all of this was pretty damn great, particularly when paired with how rational the girl remains under the chuuni veil. Nothing says sly comedy like serving as a recruitment agent all to get the local priest to take you out for lunch.
Of course there’s more to Megumin’s visit than simple scrounging as the later appearance of Yunyun and Chomusuke helpfully indicate. While somewhat ironic we have poisoned water round two as the main plot point for this arc (now revealed through prophecy versus Kazuma derived self-discovery), it does admittedly fit with the locale and the whole swath of demons and demonic gods Megumin consistently comes across. It’s pretty well established Chomusuke is something related to evil after all (even if we don’t know exactly what), and last episode’s demon-girl Arnes isn’t exactly going to stay at a distance for long. Both of them may not be directly responsible for what’s affecting Arcanreita’s water supply – but you damn well know they have some sort of relationship to it.
Simply of matter of seeing what it is and how Megumin can resolve it with her nuclear delivery.
