「見た?」 (Mita?)
“Did You See That?”
This week’s Mieruko-chan piggybacks off of the revelations of last week by acknowledging the enchantment that Miko experienced at the shrine and Hana’s natural aura. When Yulia encourages Hana to begin her photography hobby in a haunted tunnel, however, it provides a major challenge to Miko once it’s revealed that the tunnel is yet another dwelling for some of the show’s nastier spirits.
YULIA’S REVENGE
Yulia has the misfortune of not being able to express her thoughts more clearly. Because Yulia’s communication skills lean towards her gut assumption about how knowledgable Miko is of the occult, she can only try her best to coax an answer out of her by forcing her into uncomfortable situations.
But this method of communication still causes the two to end up confusing one another as far as their intentions and capabilities. Miko is trying to protect Yulia by telling her nothing and wondering if Yulia can see more spirits than she lets on.
But at the same time, Yulia thinks that Miko can be coaxed into having an honest conversation about ghosts with her if she pushes her into compromising situations. And without having any kind of outlet of talking any of this out, Yulia is left resorting to assumptions like believing Miko is an exorcist because she doesn’t see the spider ghoul tearing apart the lower level ghosts she can see.
GET SOME EXORCISE
While it was nice to see that Yulia was able to make two new friends in the process of taking them to a haunted tunnel that you might’ve seen in an Abroad in Japan video, it is neat to see that they elaborated on some of the details from the last episode. Namely, Miko ended up being saved at the last minute by the shrine spirits from the last episode when the large spider ghoul is close to attacking them. Part of me thinks that the “three” times that the holy spirits mentioned are the number of instances where she’ll have their protection from high-level cursed spirits. But I’d like to think that maybe she won’t be alone and gain support from higher beings who try their best to look out for her as she goes face-to-face with some of the scarier spirits.
It’ll be interesting to see how Hana ends up developing considering how she is unable to see ghosts, but for some reason can roast and exorcise smaller ghosts. Even if Yulia will have an even more difficult time communicating with her about her powers since she’s oblivious to what Miko and Yulia are going through, I’m curious as to what would happen when Miko finds out that Hana’s aura can fry spirits.
I think you’re on to something with the 3 times theory. Miko had an immediate flashback when the spirits showed up to save her. On the other hand, it was kinda funny that the cursed ghoul didn’t actually get destroyed, after getting zapped it just went “nope, not fucking with this one…”
I do have a slightly scarier theory though; Miko was really desperate when she made that prayer and said she’ll pay any price. I wonder if after the 3 times the big fox spirit will come seeking his price.
