Duckkake. Cattrap. Anamorphic ahoge. Animality, duck form. Erokitten. Whew, what an episode.
The duck sneezes and it gets all over Ink. Must have been holding it in for weeks, given the sheer volume of fluid. The nose… it came from his nose. What, does it look like something else?
In this episode, we’re introduced to Kuroi Sumi, our second loli and eternal rival to Ink. She’s one of those delusional rich girls that’s bored as hell and contrives false overcompetitive rivalries in her mind. Kinda like Runa-chan in Seto… except Runa doesn’t have a shape-shifting ahoge and an abusive maid at home. How do they come up with these masterpieces?
Those who are familiar with Moetan can probably enlighten me on this one, but I just noticed that each girl has a different ornament on the side of their skirts. Ink has two huge buttons, while Sumi has two huge zippers that look like the side cannons on the Strike Freedom. Makes me wonder what the rabbit chick has – Velcro?
Ink tries to get it on with that loser guy again this morning but fails once more. Sumi is watching the whole thing behind a telephone pole with a flier that continuously changes. The one shown above in picture 6 with the catgirl reads “But I’m a boy… even then, is it alright?” Sorry, cattrap. Nekotrap. Trapcat. Hell, I dunno, what did they call Hayate when he dressed up like that? Still, it’s quips like this that give this show its attitude and flair.
At school, Ink gets a call on her magical cell that someone is in trouble! After the ero duck gets an eyeful of loli transformation (with Sumi spying on), they whisk off and save a dude who’s pinned against a wall by a pink hatchback. It’s got irony written all over it, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe something about being saved by a little girl while having stupid car troubles… ugh. Ink busts out her “power” mode and lifts the car right off.
The action doesn’t let up as they are abruptly thrust into some alternate dimension, where this nasty looking panther shows up… and promptly turns into a rather sarcastic looking kitten. He’s got a huge bell on his neck and one of the Keroro anti-barrier stars on his head. Apparently he’s an enemy of the duck’s from the same world, and the two duke it out with some Marvel vs Capcom fury, until the duck finally pulls his finishing move. Silly. Back to lolis.
That evening, on her way home from school, Sumi sees a kitten surrounded by a gang of unsavory looking dogs. She chases them away, and the cat thanks her. Eh? You talk just like that duck! The cat (Kaa-kun) recruits Sumi to be her own mahou shoujo, so naturally we’re treated to another MA-rated sequence involving some strategically placed stars, very tight clothing, and a cat with a nosebleed.

Thoughts
This show continues to shamelessly flaunt lolis and their tight-fitting clothing (or lack thereof), but at least they do it in good humor. It’s not surprising to see that the director of Moetan is the same guy that does Hayate no Gotoku, who is probably the source of all that unnecessary-yet-funny randomness.
While the comedy does seem to have much similarity with Hayate, the show I thought most resembled this one was the classic Nurse Witch Komugi, which was released a whole five years ago, and yet I can’t think of another satirical mahou shoujo show like it since then. It’s rather interesting to point out that these two satires have a much higher production quality than the traditional mahou shoujo shows… namely those known as “Nanatsuiro” and uh… “Nanoha StrikerS.”
Anyways, had Komugi been a full TV series or had been released in the last 2 years, I’d probably write off Moetan as something that’s just too similar in nature, but it’s been long enough and the ones who latched onto Komugi have probably graduated on to more illegal stuff since then. I dunno, like Aishiteruze Baby.
And then again, Komugi never had a duck. 99% of the time these mahou shoujo mascots just end up being annoying, but THE DUCK… having already pulled the huge sneeze card, I can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.

I so gotta pick this up 😀

this looks so wrong =.=;;
GStrike- beat me to the punch on that shot.
But anyhow, this series once again has me eager for the next episode.
I agree with GStrike that looooks so wrong.lol
So who does the best subbing job of this? I’m kinda interested in watching this now. But I yearn for the HQ.
My favorite Moetan Corner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IS2O7MUJtQ
@ jaalin: No, but she did have an equally perverted rabbit.

Mmmm, white goo on a loli! Show her what it means to be a TRUE woman!
SPLAT!!! …….MAN! first AIRANTOU and now this! these animes are getting reeeal loose with the liqid kids being skeeted to and fro….. and JAALIN what gives? “more illegal stuff like Aishiteruze Baby.”????? OHH MAN!! i thought that was a simple heartfelt show! DOES THAT MAKE ME A PEDO?!?!?!? damn! it’s getting so a dude can’t like anything sweet. DAMN YOU JAPAN!!!!
AHAHAHAHA.
There is a funny ass reference made in Moetan 2. It deals with Ah-kun and 18th pic. I don’t think anyone can figure it out. I know what it is. I wonder if anyone else know what it is. If not, I’ll mention it in the upcoming Power rankings.
This anime just turn a lot funnier when I heard Ka-Kun. Ka-Kun is seiyuued by Hiyama Nobuyuki. I am a huge fan of his since Yu Yu Hakusho before Funimation picked it up.
“99% of the time these mahou shoujo mascots just end up being annoying”
I have to disagree with that one. Most mascots are actually better characters than the actual magical girls themselves. At least from my constant experience watching magical girl shows.
Also, Nanatsuiro Drops looks like it has a pretty high budget including a hefty Geneon backing.

oh wow
@Phil Collins
None does. Both subbers subbing this show are low quality and not really worth watching. Kedex stated that they’d never go back and do a v2 of their crappy attempt at subbing ep1 while the other one did try to do so though even their v3 is still at a lower level than an AnimeJunkies sub.
“Those who are familiar with Moetan can probably enlighten me on this one, but I just noticed that each girl has a different ornament on the side of their skirts. None beside the duck, the guy and inku is from the manga, the rest is just made up, including the story.
On other hand why you see different things on there skirt is mainly because of POP’s art style, if you seen a lot of his drawings you would see a lot more of this.
This looks so dumb yet so good. I guess I’ll start watching it now.
I loved the first episode of Moetan and I can’t wait to see the second episode as well. It was more funny than I thought it would be.
What’s even more important in this series now is how many more forms Sumi’s ahoge will take.
I was thinking of watching this but It’s waaay to loli for me. . .Lucky Star is enoguh loli ness for an anime season.
Japanese perversion reaches a new LOW!! but what the hell! I LIKE IT!!! HELL YEAH!!!! bring on the lolis.
It’s not true blatant loli exploitation though. More like parodying, self-derivating blatant loli exploitation. Which makes a difference. The latter is comically energizing while the former is uncomfortably embarrassing. I actually initially wrote off this show because the first episode felt more like the former. But I’m glad this is forming up more like Hayate.
Isn’t Moetan’s seiyuu the same as Nanoha’s from StrikerS? Which make the ending extras triply hilarious!
If you’re talking about Yukari Tamura, then yes. She does the voices for both Ink in Moetan and Nanoha in the Nanoha series.
Can anyone answer this:
What happens if you do attack during a transformation scene?
Would the transformation be incomplete? Would you burn up from the high energy emitted?
I guess then your nose is gonna bleed 😛
