From lizards to men, Overlord certainly gets around. I imagine quite a few light novel readers have been awaiting this arc with baited breath, but at last it’s finally here and with it all the fun it was hyped to be. Sure it may be a little confusing (again) for the unfamiliar with so many new names and faces to learn, but when you have the promise of a potential three-way free for all, I don’t think anyone will be complaining that hard.
As previously delved into before, a lot of the reason the lizardmen arc drew a fair share of criticism was the difficulty in immediately attaching an outcome to the story being presented. We got a random cast of characters with no prior relation to our Ainz Ooal Gown staples and were asked to essentially put faith in Overlord’s plan. It certainly lived up to that faith of course, but not without its share of questioning along the way. Lo and behold then this arc’s introduction, where a similar collection of seemingly unknown groups is rapidly thrown at us, but now with one key difference: characters we actually know from the start! We got the butler-turned-spy Sebas and the Pleiades blondie Solution (who may or may not be taking lessons from Albedo) doing their duty for Mr. Bones on one hand, and a couple of unfortunate adventurers in the form of Gazef and Brain who most probably remember as Shalltear’s personal manicure assistant. It may be completely new setting, but you can already see through these first season faces which way the gears are shifting and how this arc may come to play out for the likes of Ainz Ooal Gown.
Part of what makes the upcoming chaos all the more interesting is the type and scale of this conflict. Rather than conventional straight up pulverizing of the weak, we have a brewing fight that Sebas is determined to keep away from Ainz and the Floor Guardians. It’s an ironically suitable development after the likes of Cocytus, for while Sebas too may have only the success of Ainz Ooal Gown in mind, he still saved a helpless girl in a bit of creator-inspired compassion when it may have been best to just leave her be. Whether curse or not (and I think not), Sebas’ moral indulgence shows Cocytus’ enlightenment isn’t unique, that Floor Guardian and Pleiades both have the potential to change and be more than they were originally designed to be. Some may have it easier than others due to creator quirks—looking at you Shalltear you naughty girl—but Ainz’s hope for some independent minded subordinates is going to pay off far more than he ever expected.
How our lovable skeleton gets that payoff of course comes down to the other two factions set to throw a wrench into things. The Eight Fingers are a big unknown beyond being tied to illicit drugs and a claim of secretly ruling the kingdom, alongside a sex slave link to Sebas’ adopted puppy kitten that one certain Finger is seriously going to regret going after. Then there’s the currently unnamed anti-Finger crusaders you just know are going to quickly find themselves tangled up with something far worse than a bit of backstage politicking. Sebas might be underestimating the scale of trouble he quietly knows he’s in, but you know it won’t be much of a challenge for him in the end. The fun will be seeing how Ainz’s most stoic of butlers (and one disobedient maid) chooses to deal with the kingdom’s finest (worst?) before reporting back in.
Fasten those seatbelts boys and girls, it’s about to get crazy.

I’m pretty disappointed they cut out the bit where all the middle-aged madams are going gaga over Sebas’s silver foxness. That was a fun page in the manga.
Sebas also seemed a little harder in the anime than in the manga. I mean, demanding the busted up and probably drugged girl ask for succor before providing it…
I liked that he made her ask, since considering his own situation, Sebas gave her the biggest chance he could. He doesn’t have the time or leeway to save someone that’s too far gone to even be able to ask for help and is just going to lay their in a broken stupor even after she’s healed. He knows he’s going to have to justify his actions when a Guardian or Ainz asks what he was thinking, so she needs to be at least mentally sound enough to still have the will to survive. That way he can hopefully persuade the higher-ups that he can make her into some sort of asset for Nazarick and won’t have to watch her get killed for being a distraction to Ainz’s mission, which Solution already wants to do and what you know Demiurge or Albedo will do without a damn good reason.
Because sadly, she is just a human.
Agreed with you Aex, Sebas’ question added to his character and succinctly shows how he’s different from the Floor Guardians and his fellow Pleiades. It’s very similar to Cocytus’ invocation of honour when dealing with the lizardmen because it’s another subordinate using a personal quirk in a manner to justify a choice.
Ainz of course would likely love how Sebas is behaving (god knows it’s better than Demiurge for example), but Sebas doesn’t know this yet and is thus ironically going about the best way to ensure Tuare benefits Ainz Ooal Gown overall. I wouldn’t be surprised if the girl eventually becomes the first step on a path for Ainz to show the guardians the value in treating humans as something other than vermin.

She seems to be one of the more proactive one among the maids and her insubordination tantrums are cute. For me at least lol
Tsuare is… a lot more gorgeous than I imagined, at least healed up. That silky flowing golden hair… can't help but wince for what she's been through though.
Solution definitely has the cute factor going on at times, although with that smirk of hers I wouldn’t trust her to stay cute for long 😛

That Zero dude sure but off more then he could chew. Since they are in this story I suppose Brain and Gazef are going to get in on the action. The two most powerful human fighters would be bad enough for Eight Fingers but I’m pretty sure they’re going to piss Sebas off enough that he gets his hands dirty.
It’s pretty much guaranteed Sebas is going to lose is cool next time, going after his guest and breaking down his door? Now that calls for a paddling.
Such an interesting episode that showcased just how much better the next arc is going to be compared to the previous one.
It was a great episode I thought too, although mostly because it featured some characters we already knew and we could see how all the other ones will eventually interact with them. Unlike the lizardmen it’s easier to see what the general intent is for this arc and why it’ll be important for Ainz and friends.

It’s not really a spoiler because it will never be brought up in the anime (or manga), it will not affect the story or be present in the story in any shape, it’s just something author made as a bio for character.

speedsubs are a bit iffy on that, technically translation is correct “perhaps i will devour you first” would the normal translation, but Japanese language is tricky you can say two exact phrases but depending on the situation they hold different meaning, so what she actually meant was “before Sebas arrives, perhaps i will dine on you first”, i as well did not realize she was going to eat the fetus.

Well that explains a lot! I thought Solution was just going to screw with her mind, but if she actually removed a fetus and did away with that instead the scene makes more sense. Really surprised the show didn’t try and allude to it more, it would’ve hit home just how wrecked Tuare was.

She gave Tuare an abortion and ate the fetus.

She actually did her a favour, the mental impications in knowing this would have been too much to handle for her. In the bad solution did a good thing.
or.. speculating.. the fetus would be an enemy for some higher ups.. Like to get rid of evidence
That buff dude is gonna experience how much he screwed up later in this arc.
Oh and pancake, the girl with that giant blue sword is a strong player.
All 5 are strong players, but the one with the giant sword is the strongest.

Yes, finally got to one of my favourite arcs. So many characters are introduced or reintroduced in this one episode. Blue Rose, the Eight Fingers leadership, the Royal Faction (Gazef, Brain, Climb, et al) and Tsuare. Solution and Sebas got some nice camera time and a little character development.
I never thought that Cocodoll’s design was supposed to be so… camp however. He did note that he wanted Solution and Climb for his appetites on separate occasions. Can’t say I can remember seeing any illustrations of him but I do wish he did not look like such a stereotype. Hilma is as hot as one might expect though.

I wonder if Nazarick characters with different makers setting different values in them will instil conflict among them later on. Some nazarick members seem to be pure evil and some seem to have some non evil traits to their nature (since their creators were all good inside to start with and just making diff personalities for their creations before they all came to life)
It’ll probably depend on whether any other creators besides Ainz pop up. Right now all of them are bound by oath and reverence to Ainz, with some like Albedo and Shalltear literally having obedience written into their genes. They may grow more mentally independent, but none have a reason to try and break away yet, something a fellow creator could easily generate if one appears.
It’s funny… I feel that the anime did a stellar job of the lizards, but the Sebas parts were oh-so-much better in the manga. Damn…
Probably down to time I imagine, we had three separate group introductions crammed into this episode, not a lot of space to feature some of the smaller things.

even if his compassion was programmed into him by his creator, still it makes him most sympathethic of the floor guardians yet to me

and i bet, His Boss will be happy of his doing, but he need to play the “evil Overlord” for his followers… I am curious how he justified Sebas actions as one of his own.. Secret Mission to gain Trust of Humans? to build up an Spy Network?. Lets see..
This Girl triggered me a very kind emotion inside me, from an other Anime… an Serf that made an powerful speech, while treated as an “Witch”.. i do not go into details. But i hope with next episode all can see what i mean

Sorry Greed, if you are talking about Evileye she is stuck in the body of a 12-14 year old girl (hence her height). She is quite pretty though and she does unmask at least once in my memory of events from the light novel.

I really thought she’d disregard her orders. But it looks like she still followed them. At least she manages to show her irritation and voices her disapproval. Ains would probably be happy with that since it means she’s more “human” instead of an NPC.

Didn’t expect them to have a common enemy when looking at the opening. I guess the enemy of my enemy isn’t my friend.
It’s kind of neat that they have the head butler in the subservient role in public while Solution is playing the ojo-sama. I wonder if Ainz set up that situation, or if Sebas and Solution decided on it themselves?

I know perhaps an use for them, to fight with what they got. They can fight other Humans.. are the Eight fingers not humans, too? An Syndicate born from Humans and they can fight them… or are some of them Monsters?
Well, the answer to that without spoiling is that everyone of eight fingers is considered as a monster thanks to how powerful and influential they are in their own area even though they are still humans. Now, if you meant the security division from Zero, i’ll point to the spoiler.
