I talked the other day about how there was an announcement concerning Suzumiya Haruhi coming on Tanabata (today), which was the same day as some special events in the third novel. Well, it seems that Kyoto Animation has produced a publicity stunt of sorts by uploading a 22-minute flash promotional video onto the official website depicting the events of that night in live action (with Haruhi and “John Smith”) from a security camera point of view. For those of you with niconico accounts, you can watch it here since the official site appears to be down at the moment from probably getting hammered by all the fans trying to access it. For those of you without accounts, there’s also a torrent of it available on Tokyo Toshokan. In any case, I’m very impressed by the extent to which Kyoto Animation is promoting this show since this video matches perfectly with the Newtype magazine announcement. I expect that this will eventually make its way one of the DVDs for the second anime season, but for now, this is almost like getting a glimpse of what a live-action Haruhi would be.
FAKE
that chick is no hirano aya!!
as long as we have our haruhi it doesn’t matter
Live action anything is just very… -_-
haha this will be interesting
havent seen it yet but i am very sceptical about live action haruhi.
No one except Aya-chan is allowed to play her!
Nothing’s wrong with a publicity stunt such as this; gets people stirring more than they already would have.
Can’t wait until the second season.
Moetron’s got the vid streaming if that’s needed.
Gotta love KyoAni’s marketing, though I expect this vid will go over most people’s heads.
>> I expect that this will eventually make its way one of the DVDs for the second anime season
That sounds funny coming from someone who never bought a DVD to support the creator.
awwww kyoani…
you already had us with a 2nd season
Thanks for the torrent link! I’ve been trying to access the site for ages today >.>
Ok then Nano-nano how do you explain the fact that they do blogs on the dvd specials for things like mai otome?
Anyway onto the actual topic, the live action thing was ok…and thats about it really ^^
@Badgerman-
You can get rips of DVD specials on torrents and the such quite easily. Just look at all the Code Geass ones floating around; heck, I have a few of those.
Not implying anything against Omni, of course. I’m just saying.
Man, I really want to read the books to really understand what is supposed to be going on here. But I totally don’t want to spoil the next season.
Darn these incredibly hard choices.
Hmmm. Seems like it isn’t worth watching the whole 22 minutes of grainy film. But if you want to, I posted the flv over at my blog.
Oh gawd yes! XD
kind of interesting, but its kind of hard to make out what it happening,
Dun insult my god!
Was there something that was suppose to happen. I wasted 22 minutes of my life watching that…
I guess its an inside thing if you’ve read the novels and the part that it is based on.
Maybe someone can enlighten us on what they were doing who has read this part in the novel?

“Events in the third novel”. I’m not going to spoil it, but the Wikipedia entry for that particular novel reveals all.
blah… what a waste of 22 minutes =.=;;
I don’t know what’s more impressive: KyoAni and Kadokawa’s marketing inventiveness, or the fact that many of us would watch 22:51 of that, wondering what Haruhi was saying to “John Smith,” and wondering who was playing Haruhi and Kyon. I think there is a small chance it was indeed Aaya and Sugita. Yes, I am sure there are a lot of people it will not impress, if the Konata “muuu” ad is any indicator. Color me impressed. This may not work as well as “Muuu”, but I love it that they are daring enough to try this kind of viral marketing again and again.
hmm at 1st even i dont know whats was happening other than someone was drawing pattern, but after reading partially of volume 3 only i figure out that it was 3 years ago when Haruhi draw that pattern in school, heck i cant wait to see this ep gets animated, it’ll be good for sure.
I thought the second season would be nowhere as mad, much more serious and less fun overall. Looks like KyoAni is thinking otherwise.
I’ve got their company logo on my altar already. They had better not disappoint me.
And torrented. Really funny which promotion ways they are choosing recently.
Here’s the bit from the novel this is supposed to be based on:

straight corny
To those confused about what you’re seeing, I present some content from the first chapter of the first volume, a scene that was shown in the first (chronological) episode of the series, and while I have wrapped it in spoiler tags to save space, it can not be considered a spoiler for anyone who has seen this scene. If anyone has not seen the first season and still clicks it, well, you deserve to be spoiled for reading this far into a post that is obviously about the second season.
Show Spoiler ▼
That clear things up for anybody?
Sorry about the doublepost, but I forgot to give credit for the above. Much love to the Baka-Tsuki novel translation project, and to the author, Tanagawa Nagaru.
@Heiae
I know that i was just hoping he didn’t xD
So has an airdate of the second season been announced yet?
yeah so that video was terrible, dont know why theyd make something like that -.-
This is them saying “We already have a virtual faction of fanboys clamoring for the second season, so we don’t even have to do a promo. Screw trying to recruit new fans, we’ll just do this security cam video and the fanboys will love it like they love everything we do”.
That was also what they did with Lucky Star, Name recognition of the studio that did Haruhi alone made it unnecessary for them to need a straight up promo so they did “Muuuuuuuu”, because the massive number of fanboys they already had from Haruhi would love it regardless of what they did. They really don’t need to do anything difficult ever again at this point.
This is very good that you make a king of superior thought related to this good post. Hence we think that that could be great when some persons purchase the thesis sample and dissertation with you help.
Different fields of our life take lots of time and money, so why have we to waste free time for college essay composing? It would be greater to use some experienced comparison essay service to order the term research paper at, I think.
