「ひまわりの君」 (Himawari no Kimi)
“The Sunflower You”

Why settle for a fan magazine about your favorite writer when you can go all the way with your own short novel? Azusa’s on the right track in that regard as she slaves away in front of the computer screen writing night after night. Hmm, that sounds exactly like what I do… *sniff*

But it’s all for the love of the game and converting that passion into something you can share with everyone! Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself to keep my sanity in check. Sure there are nights where you have a brain fart and just don’t feel like writing, but once you’re done you can always bask in the finished work’s greatness. While I’m never quite as thrilled about my ramblings as Azusa is about her novel, I’ve definitely been in the same lacking sleep department. Unlike her though, I can confidently say I’ve never crushed anyone with a window because of it. If anything, I’m probably closer to Miyako’s exhausted display after finishing her exams.

Anyway, this episode revolves around “writing pains”. After everyone finishes their exams, Azusa invites Sumika to help with her fan magazine (i.e. “clean” doujinshi) over the summer break in preparation for the Yuri Festival. However, Sumika just wants to get out of it and tries to enlist Ushio’s help with some incredibly verbose sign language. As the two of them “discuss” keeping Ushio’s brother’s pen name a secret, Azusa just assumes that Sumika’s onboard and starts imagining how great her summer vacation will be. Unaware of this, Sumika later opposes Tomoe’s aspirations to have some club activities over the summer, until the thought of Ushio in a swimsuit at the beach comes to mind.

Meanwhile, Azusa’s decided to write a yuri novel after imagining scenarios with Sumika, which she completes on her own after several painstaking nights. She hopes to surprise Sumika with it at school the next day, but is shocked to find out that Sumika doesn’t recall agreeing to help out. This reminds Azusa of how her crazed interest in doujinshi led to resentment from more casual fans she tried working with before, so she heads home and cries so loudly even her parents outside hear. Realizing that she’s probably done something to upset Azusa, Sumika stops by her place with Tomoe and Miyako and agrees to help out. Much to her surprise, she finds out that the Yuri Festival is the day right after the trip Tomoe planned.

With the Girls Club trip planned for August 6th and the YuriFes happening on August 7th, I’m curious to see how Sumika’s going to try to attend both. It can’t be easy weighing Ushio swimsuit appearance against Azusa’s feelings, but the beach looks like a given according to the preview. The real issue at hand though is Ushio’s feelings towards Sumika, which seem like they’re going to burst out any moment. The more she sees Sumika spending time with Azusa, the more her jealousy grows unconsciously, leading me to believe this is how Ushio’s going to realize her feelings for Sumika. That’s my best hunch at the moment anyway, seeing how these last two episodes went.

In terms of laughs, I loved the expression-filled, full-body sign language Sumika and Ushio had going on in the beginning. I would’ve liked to see more of Masaki though, who’s only been featured in cameos since “Akemi’s” date with Sumika. Next time, Tomoe’s going to be driving around with her newly acquired license, which has potential to cause quite a bit of mayhem.

  1. Like with omni and FMA, still so much fun to read what divine think will happen when you know =D

  2. I was worried at the street crossing, it felt that Azusa was going to go for it with the “don’t walk” sign on. Somehow Sumika was doing to Azusa the same thing Ushio is to doing to her (ignoring her). I’m glad at the end she realized it and did something nice for Azusa.
I hope the “burst of feeling” are good enough, I still don’t like Ushio that much.

  3. We need another season to get into the real drama of the series. :p The series gets really interesting when Lotte-chan gets introduced into the story. Things just get better and better from there on. :p
