It’s been a while since a blogging schedule has been created, but I wanted to give an overview of what the tentative plans are for the summer season starting tomorrow. I want to stress that this is tentative schedule and may change after the first week once I’ve had a chance to watch the first episode of every new series I expressed interest in in the Summer 2010 Preview.
I have no intention of blogging every series I’m watching again, as sixteen shows and one manga a week got pretty hectic at times. I’d also like to try and keep it to a two show per day max from now on, whereas the past three months it’s been three most days and five on Sundays. I’d love to share thoughts on every series I’m watching, but it’s pretty unrealistic to continue doing so given the number of series I tend to watch each season. Preparing screen captures and writing posts take time and there just aren’t enough hours in each day. In all honesty, I’d like more time away from the site for personal stuff (and sleep), so the drop from 16 shows to 11 should help in that regard too.
So with that said, Kiiragi has opted to help cover the very hyped up HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD, but his posts will likely be held up a bit waiting for subs. Prooof’s going to be busier in the upcoming months, but may pick up one more series later on. For me, I plan to continue on with all of the shows carrying over from the Spring 2010 Season, with the one exception being Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru. While I plan to continue watching it till the very end, it hasn’t been a series I’ve felt compelled to say much about every week, so I’m going to replace its Sunday slot with SEKIREI ~Pure Engagement~. I never like dropping coverage of a series midway, but am willing to do so in this case for a sequel I’m more interested in. Thursdays are always the most jam-packed day broadcast-wise, so I’m willing to take on three shows, but this still means that The Legend of the Legendary Heroes and Shiki didn’t make the cut. I may end up covering one of them on Friday, but that would also mean covering another series. I haven’t completely ruled out Asobi ni Iku yo on Saturdays yet either, but the above should give you a good idea what to expect in the coming week.
As always, comments, questions, and suggestions are welcome. I’m also willing to listen to requests (complaints?) to a degree if you really want to a series covered that isn’t listed above, though it would have to fall under the list of ones I’m planning to watch to be considered.
Updates:
07/08: Added Nurarihyon no Mago, which Prooof will be covering.
08/20: Moved Mitsudomoe to Sunday after CBC suspended their broadcast for the week of August 13th. Tokyo MX is now the first station to air the series.
Woo, tables on RC.
Gives me a different perspective on airing times.
Hum, me wonders if there is any way of getting this stuff to air in America… prolly not.
Awwwwwwwright… Let the zombie fest begin :3
I will definitely be following your reviews.
<3
If you drop it I'll stab you 😀
That won’t work. You’ve got to destroy the head.
It’s great you’re picking up High School of the Dead. :]
I just hope you guys don’t go “Oh sorry, I can’t blog anymore.” .____.
I like permanency.
It would suck if Divine suddenly stopped blogging… Where would we go to find out what anime’s are good (or otherwise)
What better way to start the summer season? 😀
Any idea which group might sub High School of the Dead?
awwwwwwwwwwww.. how nice of kiiragi to do another show! that would be a great help for the site.. more random content! anyway, try not to get a little hold up by subs. it would help if you learn to cope with watching raw nihongo.. ^^
I hope you give shiki a try, but i see how hectic your schedule is. Well good luck trying to figure it all out.
Shiki is a guaranteed watch of mine. I’m just choosing not to blog about it for now, which may change when I actually get to watch it (as mentioned in the post).
You’re covering all of the shows I intend to watch except Shiki, so I’m hoping you’ll pick that up as well, even if you have to blog about it on Friday ^^
I’m pulling for shiki too; I won’t be too angry if you don’t but still, otaku fingers are being crossed 🙂
You have to much free time, J/K. Keep up the good work peep’s. ;p
If anything it looks like you guys could use more help, especially you Divine. Writing about 11+ shows seems like a daunting task to me even if you are stepping it down from 16. Anyways youre pretty amazing for finding the time to blog so much and live a life (speculation). Well keep up the good work and don’t kill yourself too much because of the blog.
Nice. That’s a lot to cover Divine, don’t burn yourself out!
[looks at legend]
Well, Divine’s Dead. Let us remember the brave soul who blogged a hundred shows for your own self-indulgence as he blogged for our sins so that our own souls may be saved.
He will be missed ;__;
And don’t worry, we’ll all attend your funeral with requests so you can keep blogging from the grave. Oh God, the power of fans. 😛
Dude… Divine… I’d volunteer to help but I’m no genius with Japanese. You have my sympathies though.
haha dont die on us Divine.
yea i agree. I’ve loved how you picked up omni’s vigor for blogging shows but i would hate to see you get tired out quickly from blogging too many shows. But anyways thanks for your hard work!
Ha, I probably should have posted the current schedule I’ve had for the last three months to show how much of an improvement the above is. Anyway, thanks for all the concern. I’m hanging in there, somehow… 🙂
Oi, I didn’t realize Rainbow was two cours (I’m a couple episodes behind)… I’m starting to wonder if I really want to keep watching that show. Anyways, there’s a nice variety in what’s getting blogged. It looks like someone is blogging all the shows I was most looking forward to (besides Shiki, which you said you may) and some that I was one the fence about (Mitsudomoe).
I’m not sure how you managed to blog 16 shows this season — that is quite a feat. I got spoiled by you blogging all the shows I was watching, but I’m glad to see you trying to take a step down for your own sake.
To much blue in that schedule, i dont know if that good or bad
Good schedule, do you think you guys are going to do Snapshots for shows like Shiki, LotLH, and Asobi ni Iku Yo? Completely understandable if you don’t get around to it the overlapping of the seasons must be the busiest time for blogging.
Yeah, the transition period is always the most hectic, plus there are always the opening and ending videos to prepare for each new show.
I want to try and cover the first episodes of those series, but only if I have time for it. I get the feeling I’ll have a lot to say about them, so it’s likely they’ll get a series introduction type post. Denyuden (LotLH) in particular is one series I feel deserves more attention than it’s gotten.
divine : 11/14 almost 80% of the anime . calm down dude, with this speed, u will retire just like omni in no time. this website cant die, man.
Speaking of which, I need to start looking for someone to shape into a successor of sorts for whenever that time comes.
For now, let’s just enjoy it while it lasts… ? Or while “I” last I should say, since I probably look like Ichinomiya Kou when burning the midnight oil on some nights.
なに これ ????
you just started as the second hokage.. and now you’re looking for the third?! don’t burn yourself up, take out a few shows if you can’t do them all. ^^
maybe you can try looking for more aspiring bloggers who can do one show per season.. just to lessen the load a bit..
oh yeah, i forgot.. you have another blogger who always gets MIA, the great sage perv jaalin! he could be your third hokage?……… NAH! if that happens, the site will fill up w/ ankle shots then goes idle for a loooong time.. ^___^\/ (peace jaalin, that means i’m actually looking for you)
good luck on not dropping too many, Divine.
hopefully, we won’t get too many disappointments, like the Endless Eight.
have fun blogging.
Well, I’m not entirely sure if I should do this in the comments section, but I might be able to blog a couple shows if you need some done. For example, I’m definitely planning on watch Shiki as well.
that reminds me.
How do you guys watch Japanese channels in america anyway? Or do you guys live in Japan?
Torrents, man, torrents. Or KeyholeTV but torrents are wonderful.
Goodbye, Uraboku. I shall miss you so. ;_;
That’s a LOT of shows to blog. I’m amazed you’re still alive by now. Any chance of finding more people so you don’t have to work so much?
Dude Divine….poor man. 11 shows to do. At least when omni was here you were doing half? of the shows.
I never understood on how you can blog THIS many shows in one week.
No seriously. Too much free time on your hands.
How do you even do it and not get burnt out from all of that blogging?
Is it some secret trick you use to get posts prepared quickly or is it something else?
And yes, they’re all serious questions. And I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t answer.
There’s no secret to it — it’s just time invested. On average, a post will take me 2.5 hours to get out, including the time required to watch the episode. For some more difficult to understand shows like Senkou no Night Raid, I’ve spent up to 8 hours on a single post due to historical research and cross-referencing what happened.
I wouldn’t say I have a lot of free time on my hands though. The more correct statement would be that I’ve committed all of my free time and then some (at the expense of sleep) to the site. I do have a full-time job I go to 40 hours a week, though I’m sometimes able to slip in some blogging there if it’s not busy.
As for not burning out, it’s a combination of passion, commitment, and diligence. Nothing’s terribly streamlined. Taking screen captures for instance is still done manually. I’m pretty meticulous about which ones to use too, so even that requires a bit of time. I guess more than anything else, I have personal standards and expectations of myself, so that’s a driving factor as well. I used to be perfectionist until I got a bit jaded with age.
talk about dedication…
and i can’t deny it either. For a while though i thought you were a bot.
Guess I’ll have to learn to do the same. >.>
Thanks for answering my questions.
Sorry if I’m missing something obvious, but what does it mean when a show has 25 as the hour it’s starting? Does that mean 1AM on the next day? If so, why list it like that?
Yes, that’s what it means as mentioned in the technical note in the season previews. It’s a time format adopted by Japanese schedules because a lot of programs such as anime air after midnight.
It might shock some people to find out that these are the time slots the majority of anime gets in Japan, but the reason why the time is listed in “relative-day” format is because no one is expected to wake up at 1AM the next day to watch it, but still be up from the day before. You can simply think of it as broadcasters not treating midnight as the cut-off time for a “day”.
A lot of people will simply record shows on their PVRs, but hardcore otakus will stay up and watch shows in “real-time” and chat about it on 2ch while it’s airing.
Wow, I finally see the answer to that kind of curiosity lol. I have always been wondering why some shows are scheduled at around 25:XX hours XD
Thanks a bunch Divine for clarifying that : )
I wouldn’t mind covering or doing a short excerpt summary on Shiki. I’m just afraid that my lack of grammar and vocabulary wouldn’t help much. T^T
Due to the unexpected awesomeness of the first series sengoku no basara 2 will be judged solely on the basis of how good the opening is (incidentally does anyone know already what the opening song for that will be?)
“SWORD SUMMIT” by T.M.Revolution, as indicated in the commercial I included in the preview.
Yeah Divine! Thanks for highlighting the schedule! Really wished I stayed in Japan, would really love to watch real-time once. I would have gladly helped out with your posts, if possible write-ups only, as my country does not downloads of anime episodes, rendering me unable to provide screen caps. I had to watch majority online, though i can do fine without subs.
Hope everything goes well! Cheers!
Oh my god yay! Ookami and Seitokai this week! I’m in need of something new after Angel Beats is done.
hey divine…i’ve been viewing random C since omni’s time but this is my first time posting here.
Thanks for this, I now have plans what to look forward this summer 🙂 …by the way, please indicate which anime you plan to blog other than anime’s you’re planning to watch. it’s much better to decide which anime is the best in the season based on blogging plans…but maybe it’s just me. 😀
BTW, your blogging style has greatly changed since then…you’ve been adopting omni’s style of blogging save for the extensive summary…which I think is just better…keep up the good work divine and the rest of the bloggers here 😀
Divine.. you are a champ for blogging all these series!
Here’s a suggestion for those shows that didn’t make the cut but you still want to say something about. Maybe every 2-3 episodes, make a post about your thoughts thus far instead of a summary for every ep. Or even just a conclusion post after a not-so-popular series finishes. Just my two cents.
Looking forward to the blogging though, I’m starting to develop a habit of checking randomc after every episode to make sure I didn’t miss any details myself and to hear someone’s thoughts on it. xD
There are few things I give up sleep for besides school, and that’s already tough enough. Divine, you make RC wonderful and continue Omni’s legacy while providing your own passion. Please please please don’t forget to take a break and enjoy some time for yourself (or watch an English show)!! Thanks so much for all that you do!
T__T
ATX… I dunno where the get a stream of that channel…
The more Prooof gets to blog the better, so I look forward to him picking up some of the work.
i dun get it…how can there be 25 hours in 1 day?
it’s just a broadcast time indication. as described in the technical note of the season preview and from omni’s comment, some stations do not end airing at 12 AM.
and a day isn’t 25 hours long… it’s actually 23.
oh crap that was supposed to be Divine’s comment! hahaha. sorry for the typo…
Definitely gonna watch Shiki and the Legend of the Legendary Heroe and am kind of interested in blogging about it.
well im also hoping you or someone will have time to pick up shiki but I can also see you already have a lot of shows to cover…
and thanks to you Divine for still keeping random curiosity alive and well
((._O))
ohmygawd Look at all those blue boxes.. D8
ogod no kuroshitsuji -___- but well good luck
Man, I wish I could do Xros Wars.
Anyway, I’m really glad divine is covering Mitsudomoe as well as others. But nobody was interested in Shiki? Surprising.
you could ask Divine if you could.
It’d be neat for the season to be blogger before Disney dubs and wrecks it.
Just a question. According to Fansubwiki/ANN, Mitsudomoe starts airing today on CBC, so why did you choose to follow the ATX broadcast?
Hmm, it wasn’t a matter of choosing to so much as the series wasn’t listed as airing earlier than AT-X at the time. I’ll revise the schedule here and the season preview.
I have long followed this blog, and got curious myself like Jubbz on how you could seriously blog more than 10 shows a week. Assuming it’d take an hour per review, that’s already 10 hours!
This is a bit personal, but you don’t go to school anymore, right? Instead, you have a full-time job, right? Right?
:3
I finished university back in 2005, so I’ve been working for some time now. As I mentioned in my response to Jubbz, I do work full-time and spend closer to 2.5 hours per post.
Oh, I see; thanks for the reply. 🙂 I hope you won’t die out fast and can continue blogging longer than you/we think! :>
I hope you can blog Shiki. Although I’ll still be following if you don’t. Good luck!
I can tell its late but maybe you could blog shiki on friday instead
im okey if its late as long as it is blogged here…
Shiki doesn’t premiere until next week actually.
oops, missed that part
O_O, i dont see Asobi Ni Iku Yo!!!!!, pls you gotta blog it!!
I just watched the 1st episode, looks like it could turn out to actually have a 1/2 decent story, especially compared to other ‘harem’ style anime…
I totally agree. And besides, HOW CAN A SERIES WITH KANA-CHAN KICKING ASS IN THE FIRST 5 MINUTES NOT BE AWESOME?!
I wasn’t planning to make time for Asobi ni Iku yo, but I may cover another episode of it. I agree that Hanazawa Kana is pretty badass as a secret agent though.
Yeah, Kana-chan ftw! btw thanks for at least covering it a little, it must be tough doing 10+ shows a week! you have my support!
I am sorry if this is a bother, but I cannot understand the schedule.
What time does Mitsudomoe come out (on TV)? And is it coming out this week?
If a new station is picking it up, it seems like they would re-start from episode 1. But I am not sure…
A slight bother. 😛
In general, multiple stations air any given series every week, so if the one that was first to air takes a break for whatever reason, it paves way for another station to be the first to air.
For a full breakdown of Mitsudomoe’s broadcast schedule on all stations, see syoboi calendar. You can sort by channel (first column) to make it easier to view. Take note of the air dates (second column) to see what I mean.
The schedule above and the one I adhere to for blogging is always based on the first station to air.
