「机みがき」 (Tsukuemigaki)
“Desk Polishing”

If I had half the skills Seki-kun had, I could make a living as a carpenter.

Seki-kun’s Cute Side

After two episodes of constant back and forth bickering between the pair, I thought it was a nice change of pace to see Yokoi and Seki-kun somewhat working together for once. While one could argue that Yokoi technically tried to avoid getting involved, you can’t deny that watching her concede to cheer up a depressed Seki-kun was pretty cute.

On a completely different note, I think I’ve finally pinpointed one of the things that bug me whenever I decide to read the manga for a show I’m going to eventually watch — the freedom a studio has to adapt how they see fit. In this week’s case, I was a little disappointed that the writers decided to leave out the notion that Seki-kun may be trying to fix the holes in his desk from last week’s escapade. Sure it isn’t anything terribly important nor does it change the feel to the gag but I personally thought it was a fairly important. Why you may ask? Because it points out that Seki-kun does understand that he can’t just go and do whatever he wants. (That and if you remember last week, Yokoi totally points out that he would run into trouble when seat-change day came!)

Static Electricity

Super sayian hair jokes aside, I thought this week’s surprise ending was great. Even though I should have realized (or remembered) that a writing mat is world-renowned for its ability to harness static electricity, it served its purpose by reminding us that Yokoi and Seki-kun are going to be bugging each other — be it intentional or not.

The Future

Every week I ask myself, just why am I covering this show? Is it because of its antics? Or am I just a sucker for some simple and clean humor? No matter what it is, this show is still giving me what I want and as an added bonus does it in less than 10 minutes. So after three episodes, I totally give it my seal of approval as a show you should continue watching.

Unless you find it boring, which in that case you should totally just keep watching anyways.

  1. KanaHana’s voice reactions as Yokoi is just priceless! XD

Also Takaii, have you gotten the chance to see the OVA? There’s only one right now, but it’s just too ADORABLE to just ignore!!

Because it’s probably the best new show of the season? Admittedly, that’s not saying much but I always look forward to it for a nice break from a long list of stuff whose creativity is stuck on “rehash with new character designs and title”.
