「とんでもスキルは役に立つ」 (Tondemo Sukiru wa Yakunitatsu)
“My Absurd Skill Is Unexpectedly Useful”
Okay, gotta admit this was tons of fun! Mukouda, Tsuyoshi (Uchida, Yuuma) is a normal 27-year-old salaryman who one day gets transported to another world alongside other heroes. He soon finds out that he doesn’t really have an ordinary skill like everyone else, his skills are actually something more like his own personal Amazon, where he has to actually insert funds in order to be able to buy products that get delivered to him in the blink of an eye. It’s not something you would think would work, but as the episode progresses, I became more enamored with the series. Furthermore, the introduction of Feru (Hino, Satoshi) the guardian deity that makes an appearance, in the first episode, got me hooked, and I definitely want more.
Tsuyoshi is soon left off to fend for himself, and is given 20 gold coins as his starting money pool, he soon starts applying the laws of capitalism for better or for worse, and looking for the cheapest trade, of course, the boy knows a good deal when he sees one, I mean don’t we all? I know I can rarely sustain myself whenever those steam sales come around. So whenever someone is trying to outsell him a product, like that guy with the magic stove, he much rather defers and buys an old regular gas stove. Why would you want a stove that conjures fire through a magic circle, when you can have a normal stove that uses gas? I totally feel him right there.
Speaking of; Tsuyoshi is actually quite entertaining and very relatable to watch, looking at him go through several turmoils and still come out on top was one of the highlights of the show for me, the way he handled basically being thrown out of being a hero because his skill is just too weird, and then going about the medieval streets in a suit like he’s some kind of time traveler is probably what sold me on watching the whole episode. And the fantasy setting is always a plus. Tsuyoshi sooner rather than later comes in contact with a party and things get into full swing. The hook of the show of course is about food, and boy did some of that food actually look delicious. I’m glad it’s not like basic stuff either, this is some complicated food right here, and something that I really appreciate is gourmet stuff. More like home-cooked gourmet would be a better way of describing the food presented here.
Then Feru asking for more than one dish had me worrying about how much of the red boar meat they could actually sell as Tsuyoshi has one little problem, if he runs out of money, he won’t be able to use his skill, so he had me on the edge, but it seems Feru was quick to take devotion towards Tsuyoshi even offering him a pact, but now he’s in charge of Feru and must feed him 3 times a day, hopefully, since he now has to make food en mass, we’re going to see recipes come to life. Since Feru seems to eat like a whole football stadium of food.
But anyway, the first episode did a very good job of hooking me into its premise and making sure I was able to understand what the series was actually about. Seems like each week we’ll get one or two dishes to faun over, alongside a fantasy setting that has already captivated my senses. Here’s hoping Tondemo Sukiru de Isekai Hōrō Meshi continues on this path and delivers an interesting fantasy cooking show!

I really liked this idea of anti-hero pacifist isekai! It is going to be a good watch for sure. Especially when a legendary monster makes you its “master”. LOL.
He didn’t want the pact and Feru was like ( º言º)
This online shopping skill thing is OK but he still has to pay for it, so won’t Fenrir soon bankrupt him unless he can secure himself a good income stream? Still, just by selling the gas stoves he can easily undercut the price of the magic equivalent, and that also gives him a steady income from the replacement gas canisters.
Oh yeah, hopefully, he manages to attain some money next episode, I wouldn’t want to watch it anymore if the money just appeared out of nowhere. 😛 Or some kind soul might give him some or something, hopefully.
… MAPPA should’ve direct their funding to Tondemo. The crew seems to have lots of fun doing this happy go lucky slice of life isekai anime rather than working for a pretentious director who is ashamed of doing anime and ‘d rather do Hollywood flick.
Bah, maybe if he was talking about Coppola, Kubrick or Scorsese i can accept his bs. Well, Bocchi already shut him off, so i only need to laugh at him.
Been reading the manga for a while but the anime version not really going scratch the itch it looks like.
Andddd watching too much otherwise this season with all the sequels.
