「常連の鳴き声」 (Jouren no Nakigoe)
“The Regular Customers”

If there ever was an episode that truly grasped onto the concept of slice-of-life and just ran with it in the best way possible, this week’s episode was that.

Welcome Back to the Café

With a surprise return to the café from last week, I found myself absolutely in love with everything involving it this week. From the moment we saw Anzu to the last few seconds of seeing the fox, I was awkwardly teetering on the edge of my seat wanting more. Because, when it comes to a show like Flying Witch, it’s all about the characters and everything was completely on point. You had Chinatsu doing Chinatsu things, Makoto was able to show off both the composed and kiddy side of her personality, and we got a great normie pun from Kei from when I least expected it. Honestly, what more could you really ask for in a single episode?

Luckily for us, the show didn’t stop there and kept throwing more and more things at us. There was a cute ladybug couple, the bringing of night from the veil (who seems like a really nice person), and my personal favorite the adorable fox eating winter cherries. All of whom had their own unique moments, something that a show like this not only can do but managed to do really well.

Gray Lakes

Not wanting to be completely left out, Akane managed to make a big splash (pun intended) right before the episode came to a close. While I’d have to question why she’d want to sap the beautiful blue out of a clear ocean, it was pretty funny seeing her concoction go a little too far and turn everything from the mountains to the skies gray.

Random side note – am I the only one who thought Akane would have had a way to allow others to understand her? Especially with how much traveling she does, it would suck to have to dance around with hand gestures to get her point across, right?!

Looking Ahead

After such an amazing episode, I can only hope we get more like this. With a perfect blend of comedy and slice-of-life, the show has set a pretty high hurdle for itself. But even with such a hurdle, I think the minds behind the show are making a ton of correct decisions and I have no fear that they’ll continue to keep making them as we wrap up the last quarter of the season.

Anyways I’ll catch you guys next week. Ciao!

  1. “and my personal favorite the adorable fox eating winter cherries”

At first glance, I thought you were saying the winter cherries were fox-eaters and had it backwards. XD

I just loved Makoto’s interaction with Akane and her mother in confusing them for the same person, lol.

    1. The Owner of this Cafe… and the owner of some Bathhouse.. at the bathhouse there was Twin “old” Sisters. Her it was Mother and Daughter nearly looking the same

i am meaning the “Spirit away” bathhouse, but here it is an Cafe… but both for the other side customers

  2. Anzu really is a splitting image of her mother. Both are pretty, Hina too. The whole time I was watching the scene in the cafe, I kind of wondered if everything Makoto and Chinatsu did would normally be considered “bothering the customers.” Well, it isn’t a normal cafe anyway so I guess it was okay. That one spirit was nice enough to give Chinatsu candy, and the fox looked like he didn’t mind getting petted. And you’re not the only one Takaii. I thought since Akane travels a lot she’d already be fluent in other languages.

  3. Wow…Can’t believe this show somehow gets more touching there, i mean, they only show a little or even no shame there, While the other show seem to…uh, Well, Embarrassing themselves for it…(sigh) poor little village girl!

One more thing…I Think The Desert Cat is kinda cool, it’s surprise me that, the voice of that cat is the same as this girl or this one
