Now that every show has aired several episodes—and then a couple more, while I took my sweet time putting the post together—it’s time to tell you what we’ll be blogging this season. This is Random Curiosity’s Fall 2016 blogging schedule.

As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season . . . is what we used to say, but with multiple episodes under our belts, we’re pretty confident in our picks. Will some of them blow up in our faces? Probably. But this is what we’re going with.

In staff news, you’ll notice that I, Stilts, the person who is writing this post, is not blogging this season. (Zephyr neither, but that’s not news. Also, he smells.) What the crap is going on, you ask! (Stop yelling.) Well, as I mentioned on the couple of shows I did intro, I’ve been dealing with four jobs as of late, and I badly needed to limit it to only three. I would have preferred RC not be the one I had to step away from, but since it neither pays the bills or underpins my entire self-esteem (must . . . write . . . books . . . FASTER!), it was the natural choice. Plus, exhaustion was making me rather moody, which doesn’t make for great blogging.

So, that’s why. But fear not, for I shall not be gone long! (Or fear well, if you don’t like me. Haters gonna hate, etc.) How can I say that with such confidence? Because KonoSuba is back next season. Duh. Like I’m gonna miss a chance to write about that.

In show news, Zephyr and me stepping back for the season has left us with fewer shows covered than I would prefer, though our new kouhai Pancakes (Pan-chan, as I call him—not to be confused with Pa-kun, who is Australian instead of Canadian, and therefore equally deserving of ridicule) is picking up the slack nicely, so kudos. Now don’t get cocky, kid, or I’ll feed you to the sharks.

Note to self: get sharks.

Anywho, that’s all I’ve got for now. Maybe we’ll end up picking up another writer soon-ish, or maybe not, though either way that’s an issue for future us to deal with. For now, all that remains is to enjoy a bunch of anime together, and possibly some pie. Or ice cream? I think I have ice cream. Ice cream it is! (And anime.)

Updates:

  • 10/28: Thanks to a little help from his friend (and our newest kouhai), Enzonon will have time for another series after all. Ajin 2nd Season is receiving coverage!

  1. *Sees Gundam:IBO not being covered*

    *Sheds manly tears*

OTOH, I’m not that surprised with the lack of coverage this cour, dat Saturday stack.
(…and other priorities taking over RC. Also, Jig disappeared).

  2. i praise takaii for his decision to cover stella no mahou… great decision! just watched episode 4 and i could say this show is a hidden gem. story is very light and fluffy, and tamaki’s effort to get better is kawaii not to mention that good story plot pacing. stella no mahou is a good medicine to counter that dark anime, mahou shoujo ikusei keikaku that is also airing for this season.

on the other hand, i was surprised that none of soushin shoujo matoi, natsume yuujichou, vivid strike and girlish number are covered despite showing good plot development in the past 3 or 4 episodes. but oh well…

    1. The schedule always gets posted at the end of the first month now in order for us to make the correct decisions with our blogging picks and not wing it based on preconceptions and shows that don’t live up to their premieres.

  3. I just realized that this is the ONLY anime season since my full dedication to animu seasons in 2011 where I end up watching only ONE show. ONE. ONE!!!

HOW!? HOW THE HELL COULD THIS HAPPEN!?

I dunno, but that only makes me wanna strip mine gold and silver to fund my animu creations. This simply can’t be happening, it must be a dream! It HAS to be!

    1. What is that one show? I think all/most the shows getting weekly coverage are for a reason. Taste is subject in the end, but we do try to cover the good stuff each season. I can confidently recommend my three shows this season if you want excellent drama, high quality animation, and shows worth further discussion.

    2. Eh it’s ok Samu, I’m just bummed out that I’m only watchin one lad. I seem to be gettin a hunger for adventure and action lately in passive entertainment no? Something along the lines of Drifters yeah? Perhaps when the cold winds come bearin down on us there might be somethin like that.

Anyway, I think I’ll travel back in time a bit to watch some older shows. Good day to you sir.

  4. Im on a different boat, im watching a lot of series but i really want to read some reviews/reactions of a few certain series especially Vivid strike. Last week’s episode was rather brutal: a flashback memory of an innocent little girl transforming into a curb-stomping, skull crushing whirlwind of hurt because school bullying is evil. Or Girlish number because well its got that cynicism.

Other than that, i can see why many shows aren’t really bloggable or reviewable other than: “well this happened”

  5. I think this is the first time there’s been no coverage for anything I’m watching in a season. I guess when 3 of my 4 shows are sequels/continuations/spinoffs (Gundam, Haikyuu, Working) it’s certainly possible, but oh well. Time to start hyping winter 2017!

  6. Half of the shows I’m watching are getting blogged, so niceee, I’ll probably make time to check out the other blog worthy choices here. I would have loved coverage on Girlish Number and Haikyuu, the former because the show brings up a lot of interesting topics and it’s refreshing to have a cynical MC with a pretty terrible personality as the lead, whereas Haikyuu is just super Hype. Particularly glad to see Yuri on Ice get blogged since I think the show’s doing wonders for me, ice skating premise with charming characters that all get good character development, and isn’t afraid to embrace sexuality or feminism in males, which is cool to see.

  7. Well it’s a bit of a bummer that Haikyuu isn’t being blogged, but the 10-episode match should straight up be binged anyway. Try to get to it in the latter stages to somehow fuel the hype and intensity further. Haha. I swear the animation has gotten sharper yet. And that damn OP is fire. “Let there be light!”
This fall is turning out to be really good, up till now.
High rec: 3-gatsu no Lion, Fune wo Amu, Yuri on Ice.
Drifters is fun and can’t wait to see how and who all will appear.
Shorts this season are no joke either. Nobunaga no Shinobi (<3 this), To Be Hero (hilarious, very review-worthy), Sengoku Choujuu Giga (so good yet already forgotten), plus Bernard-jou always has something to offer and just might get you to read something.
If you add sequels, HQ 3, Hibike 2, Ajin 2. Fall is rolling and how.

  8. It’s been some time since I’ve followed airing shows, but now looking at this schedule I know I couldn’t decide better.
Great to see that 5 out of 7 shows I am watching are being blogged. Still I am devastated with no coverage for Haikyuu, damn, just damn. Although I can understand Samu who is already blogging three other excellent series. But why no one else :(?
Anyways, this fall feels really good, especially comparing to not so good summer. Hope to enjoy it as much as possible with RandomC crew.

  9. i understand it takes a bit of time to alot the slots of whos covering what.
but it would be nice if the “schedule” of what show airs when is put in the top right soon after the new seasons preview drops. it really comes in handy to have immediate access to this sort of TV guide. thanks

    1. Yes, I noticed this too:

This is Random Curiosity’s Summer 2016 blogging schedule.

If you were tired after writing this post, it’s okay, Stilts! You’re an awesome person.

  10. I’m glad Samu is covering three of the five anime I’m watching this season, but I’m saddened to the fact that Haikyuu!! and Nanbaka are not getting covered.

    1. Yay, it’s time to link to my favorite comment about new writers again! Heeeeere it is.

To add to that, we have a unique issue this season. Since this isn’t a social media platform, and we deliberately and purposefully choose who we let write for RandomC in the hopes that we’ll get someone who will do a good job, will post on time, won’t embarrass us, etc (though we don’t always succeed *gives Takkun the side eye*), we have to spend time soliciting applications, reading applications, coming to a decision, etc. Given that I’m the one who does the lion’s share of that work, and I’m unable to blog because I’m so busy/consistently exhausted, giving myself an involved side project during my season off doesn’t seem like a good idea. And given that the others who are generally involved in the process are, if not as busy, certainly busier than usual, and we’ve got a bit of a resource issue. That resource is recruiter time.

That’s why we generally keep a second name in mind after a recruiting round, which is what led to Samu and Pancakes. We’re out of those from the last round, though, so if we want someone else, we’d have to do the whole process over again. Which, given that we just brought on Pancakes, sounds EXHAUSTING.

We very well might recruit again soon. It’s been a while since we did, and if coverage isn’t back up to preferred levels next season, that’ll be a sign that it needs doing. For now, though, I’m just tired man, so we’re gonna weather this season and see where we are next. Thanks for your understanding.
