Now that every show has had a few several episodes to make its case, it’s time to tell you what we’ll be blogging this season. This is Random Curiosity’s Spring 2019 blogging schedule.

As always, this is a tentative overview of our plans for the new season . . . is what we used to say, but with oodles episodes under our belts, we’re pretty confident in our picks. (Except the ones that haven’t aired yet, which YOLO.) Will some of them fall apart in the home stretch? Yeah, probably. This is what we’re going with for now.

In staff news, no news is good news in my book. I for one think MissSimplice and Stars are fitting in splendidly, and while you’re not being assaulted by my august words every week, Zaiden is planning on making his grand return next season, so look forward to that. As always, applications remain open and you can send me example posts at stilts(at)randomc(dot)net, just in case something changes.

In show news, we’re covering 15 series this season once again, which is quite nice given that we’re still a person down. (Stars blogging that Ultraman series all in a go certainly helps bolster those numbers, natch.) There are still a few interesting series that could end up with finale posts by season end, though.

That’s everything from your humble middle manager (TPS reports!) for now. Thank you as always for reading, commenting, sharing, and discording. Keep being amazing y’all!

  1. Oh wow, Mix not being covered. Didn’t expect that.

Couldn’t get into Sarazanmai after giving it 2 eps. Too weird (and recycled animation) for my taste. I do love the ending song video though. NVidia should sponsor it 😛

    1. A couple thoughts on this. First, I am covering it at LiA. As to why not at RC, first of all, I really only have time to cover one series and it’s probably fair to say none of the other writers are big Adachi fans. Also, any attempts I’ve made to blog sports anime here haven’t been met with much response – it just doesn’t seem like a big priority with the readership. And finally, if things ever get so bad with Kaji Yuuki that he becomes a deal-breaker for me, my posts are going to get pretty divisive (obviously I hope that doesn’t happen).

    1. Yeah. For me, this is the most boring season in a long time. Only bright spark is that a few of the short series are more amusing then I expected – notably Chou Kadou Girl 1/6, which has just gotten better and more surprising after a so-so first episode.

Of new shows in the long form, Kitemso no Yaiba is okay (nice production, story about average, though reasonably paced). Carole and Tuesday is pretty good.

Well, I guess it’s a good time to catch up on regular live-action TV as Game of Thrones and Killing Eve season 2 are both out…

  2. Bummer that Fairy Gone’s not being covered with it having a pretty unique setting and being new original PA series. Isekai Quartet is mad fun, but understandable that not much to really say about it week by week. Pretty much all the other shows I’m interested in/watching are covered sans Senko-san. Glad to see Kono oto Tomare is getting coverage among the more popular series this season.

    1. Fairy Gone demonstrates that studio’s ability to take an interesting premise and setting and decent production values and then crush the life out of it with a boring narrative and uninteresting characters. Whether it’s fairies, werewolves, or vampires, they know how to make the exciting mundane!

I think the problem is the focus on conflict between organizations in which the main characters personal motivations take second stage to a weakly defined factional conflict. If the show had been about the conflict introduced in episode one (the young woman and her former friend) and explored that, it might have been interesting; instead it’s bounced around introducing more and more characters and low-interest missions, none of them especially thrilling.

  3. Sarazanmai looks great but as usual I just can’t get into Ikuhara Kunihiko’s series, they’re way too cryptic for me to the point it takes out the joy of enjoying well-intending artistic abstract story. The stories also seems to be mildly pessimistic in atmosphere a lot of times, but, to be honest I don’t even have the intellect to confirm whether or not he’s going for that.

Meanwhile, I’ll stick with an easy feel-good Carole & Tuesday

  4. Damn, it’s a shame you’re not covering Senko-san. You guys are missing out on some good “fluffy-wuffy”. Oh well…

A final impression of the series would still be appreciated, though.

  5. I wonder who will cover Danmachi Season 2 and the Accelerator first season in the Summer season? I’m guessing Pancakes for Accelerator as he did a good job with Index.

  6. Not only are you not covering Senko, a highly popular series, you didn’t even fucking bother to do a SINGLE introductory post about it.

God this website has gone to shit.

    1. Entitled much? Staff dedicate their free time to blog shows here, and as such throwing a tantrum because your fav show isn’t covered is ridiculous. If you’re THAT desperate to see a show you like blogged, start your own WordPress blog. It’s not hard.
