The first Gurren Lagann Parallel Works video, which you can see at left, is out. For those of you who haven’t heard about this, various members of GAINAX‘s staff are pairing Gurren Lagann music with new, alternate world animations. This first one is animator Watanabe Keisuke’s, and it combines the song Rap wa Kan no Tamashii da! with a fantasy setting. In it, Simon, Kamina, and Viral are attacking a fortress to free Nia, and they run into Yoko and the woman who was in Viral’s dream sequence from episode 26. It’s a lot of fun to watch, and it’s rekindled my memories of how much I liked the Gurren Lagann OST (i.e. I’ve got it on my playlist now). The next one video is set to be released June 23rd. In more Macross Frontier news, it was announced yesterday on the staff blog that there is a special short movie in store for purchasers of the first volume BD/DVD. It’s called ALL THAT VF and will feature many of the Valkyries from the Macross series in commemoration of its 25th anniversary. The first volume is set to be released on July 25th.

Despite that video using the Gurren Lagann characters, it didn’t actually remind me much of the show. Still, a fun watch.
Awesome Gurren Lagann video. I saw it earlier today, and was pleasantly surprised at how cool it was.
About ALL THAT VF.. Will it be completely new footage? That’d be really awesome, considering how huge of a fan I am of the Valkyrie designs. Especially their fighter modes.
KAMINA :O and Yoko. It just made me miss them more. Thanks!! So why did they make this AU video again? I would really be stumped if they turn this idea into a TV series lolz I wish.
Viral’s sweetheart looks pretty cute. As for the video, it would be awesome if they made it into a series, or at least an OVA. Gurren-Lagann has always been an awesome anime, I hope to see more of it.

So cute! I love Viral’s girl; I just wish we had seen more of her in the actual show. The ending with Nia was adorable, too! I can’t wait to see the rest of these specials.
Man, that reminded me how special Gurren Lagann was. When you think the second best show this season is that train wreck, albeit very entertaining train wreck, known as Code Geass R2, it makes you really miss the really great shows.
I’m also glad Gainax isn’t trying to expand on the original story but rather doing the alternate universe treatment. If this were Sunrise, we’d be having a really tough time of “Gurren Lagann: Boota of the Universe” spin-off sequels right now. As it is, I hope the rest of the videos in this series continue like well done fanfics.
That music video is really cool; a shame I couldn’t really enjoy at the fullest TTGL since I waiting too long to watch the series. Still, a very creative idea to keep in our minds the series for a long time (at least until the first movie comes out on September); time will tell.
