Summary:
After Damon assigns the militia to check out enemy activity in the Barious Desert, Squads 1 and 7 set up camp there. While looking for Faldio one night, Lamar gets frustrated by how unseriously he thinks everyone is taking their situation as soldiers. Alicia and Isara eventually help him find Faldio and Welkin right as the two are discussing the cause of the Darcsen Calamity, but Lamar still complains to Faldio about Squad 7’s lack of self-awareness as soldiers. Lamar even points out that Squad 7 has a Darcsen in it, referring to Isara, but Welkin uses this to drive the discussion toward everyone’s opinion on the Darcsen Calamity that happened in this area 2000 years ago. Faldio claims that there are signs nearby of a town burnt down by the Darcsen and that the Valkyrur defeated them, but Welkin and Isara feel that the Darcsen wouldn’t have done it on their own free will, and Isara points out that the Darcsen themselves left no records of it.
Faldio and Welkin continue their debate into the next day, and Lamar becomes frustrated at how Faldio himself has changed because of Squad 7. Nevertheless, the two commanders take him, Isara, and Alicia with them to go do some fieldwork, however the car breaks down part of the way there. Isara stays behind to fix it, and although Lamar initially continues on by foot with the other three, he soon turns back because he’s worried about her. Faldio, Welkin, and Alicia eventually reach their goal: a large Valkyrur structure in the desert whose inside walls are covered with writing describing what happened in the past. Part of the mystery that Faldio is interested in is who the Valkyrur were and what happened to them. What the three don’t realize is that Maximilian and Selvaria are there as well in another part of the structure looking for the location of a holy lance, and Selvaria is able to open a door by using her blood. The rumbling caused by this in turn causes Alicia to stumble forward through a door that opens for her, and Faldio is amazed to see that there’s more to the place.
Upon reading some of the writing on the walls inside, Faldio realizes something, but he doesn’t tell Welkin or Alicia what. The three are then interrupted by the appearance of Selvaria and Maximilian.
Preview
So the Faldio hug from last week‘s preview turned out to be somewhat misleading. I guess there won’t be much romantic conflict there after all. More importantly though, all the talk this episode about the Valkyrur and the Darcsen made me curious what Faldio realized but didn’t tell anyone. I assume it means that things didn’t happen the way that history (as Faldio cited) suggested it did. Speaking of which, even though this episode wasn’t the most exciting, I was glad to see that we’re getting some more back-story on the series. It makes the story feel a little more epic, for lack of a better word. What I didn’t like, not surprisingly, was annoying Lamar and all the pouting and complaining he did. I really wish he’d just get killed off and not be paired up with Isara as they seem to be doing.
It also bothered me a little that Maximilian was able to walk freely with just Selvaria as his guard. Wouldn’t Imperial intelligence have told him that there were Gallia forces nearby? It’d be kind of bad if he got captured, though I guess it could mean that he has that much confidence in Selvaria’s abilities. I’m still hoping we get to see her in action soon. Oh and one more thing: I found it odd that they changed the OP ever so slightly this week. There’s now a few more seconds worth of focus on Alicia and Welkin instead of the dandelions, and the song now finishes with a bit more flourish from HIMEKA. Those are rather insignificant changes, so I wonder why they bothered.
Animation seems little whacky this episode.
No offense Omni, but you sound like one of those japanese grannies who wishes people they don’t like to just lie down and die. You’ve been doing this quite alot lately. Learn to take the good and bad as one kiddo.
Alicia is hot XD…
Yooohooo!!! 2nd!!!…
Alicia Banzai!!!…
What about the new Bleach episode? :/
Nice! You noticed the difference of the opening!! I was wondering that too xD
I can’t stand Lamar and his tsundere-ness
Bleach! 😀
saludos
“It also bothered me a little that Maximilian was able to walk freely with just Selvaria as his guard.”
Trust me, Selvaria is far more capable than you realize.
yahoo!!! finally!! 3 nights of lack of sleep due to this episode is finally over. the problem is right now, I STILL CAN’T FIND THE SUBBED EPISODE!! AHHH!!

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in response to all the previous complaints online about the AliciaxFaldio development in the past few episodes, lol.
Not enough Alicia expressions this week.
There was a difference in the OP? Oh wait I skipped over yet as usual.
Oh no, this is leading into the Chapter 7 fight. !!!! I hope they put some action back in the show, and show that the Edelwiess isn’t as invincible as the anime is making it look.
That’s two weeks in a row that the episode previews were misleading.
This episode was not that spectacular nor all interesting. It seems that there going to flush out some back story before progressing forward. Which isn’t bad, but for a 12 episode series its not very wise. We might end up getting a either rushed or “To be continued” end depending on how the story sits around the last few episodes.
-On a side note it seems that there may be some Welkin and Alicia development. (unless that was Faldio that pushed Welkin out of harms way. Then it may be the other way around.
lol no one likes Ramal. Male tsunderes always break the mold for me.
For anyone who’s played the game, you can kind of predict his future role. Or rather, who he replaces in the anime.
Lol Alicia hugs Hans like it’s a soft toy… damn funny..
“It also bothered me a little that Maximilian was able to walk freely with just Selvaria as his guard. Wouldn’t Imperial intelligence have told him that there were Gallia forces nearby?“
Probably because Selvaria is basically an extremely powerful walking tank. She can pretty much take out an army by herself.
“Isara pair with Lamar”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
As for Selvaria being Max’s own guard, yeah; she’s just that bad ass.
Lots of philosophy and conjecture in this episode. Definitely for plot development, which is a good thing.
Ramal is an annoying little bugger, but he’s just viewing things from a professional standpoint.
Oh, Selvaria~ /swoons

and re: Selvaria as bodyguard… from what I’ve heard she’s bad@$$ enough to the core. And Maximilian seems to go in the traces of Rommel who many times barely avoided capture in the desert when leading his Panzerdivisionen from open-topped car.
This ep was kind of slow because of some of the background info. I guess it’s a necessary evil, but not as fun as it usually is. Hopefully like you mentioned this will build it up into an epic story.
Lamar … haha. He’s cute. Like a black haired bridget from guilty gears.
I dont know why, I actually like Lamar.
i just realised this, but has the anime introduced the militia R&D guys?
@sandles
Nope!
@ewok
i can’t believe they’re being hit on by the famous solid snake!
as a person who played the ps3 game, i still cannot remember who lamar is but from the way it looks, lamar is by far the worst character and probably more gayer than that lancer. This episode just proved it.
Lamar is an inedit character created just for the anime.
Having in mind that Selvaria, even witout her powers as a Valkyria is a friggin’ tank, is no wonder why Maximilian only has her as escort. If the Ruhm (Selvaria’s weapon) is featured in the series, that should be a new meaning for POWER HAXX!
As for Lamar, strange enough, he’s the only anime-only character here. As a matter of fact, he may be taking the place of one of the 7th Squad main engineers, (I don’t remember their names) as they were more in contact with Isara aside the main characters, which played a heavy card later in the game.
there is a reason why Maximilian can walk around freely with just selvaria and it’s not just to do with her skill. Looks like they will explain why soon, probably next week.
Tho it’s given away in the opening for the game and the front cover. *hint* blue glow *hint*

Lady Une?! :O
Ho-hum, seems both Selvaria and Alicia have something to do with ancient legacy of the Valkuryr… I wonder what is that big revelation that occured to Faldio when reading newly discovered inscriptions…
We need more battles in this anime. I really really hope that next week we will get the equivalent of the Chapter 7 battle from the game, because it is both awesome and has major revelations story-wise. Unfortunately, the preview isn’t too promising…
Faldio maybe died at this rate, hit on Alicia too much. lol.
