Episode 08

Summary:

While the GTO is preparing for its 25th anniversary event, elsewhere, the G-society is having a ceremony of its own. Led by the mysterious Gacktoel and his Shadow Workers – Torch, Shade, Rubis, Sapphir, Letuchie, and Pauk – the G-society is made up of Nouvlesse who were thrown out of power thanks to the GOTT. On this day, they declare independence and set their sights on the GTO, particularly on Chief Hiver and the three elite ES member teams.

Episode 09

Summary:

The GTO anniversary event is interrupted almost as soon as it begins by the sudden appearance of a giant image of Gacktoel. Torch and Shade are already there, and they use their powers to turn the GTO soldiers against the crowd. Gacktoel then deploys his own soldiers, so Chief Hiver has no choice but to send out the top ES members. While Un-ou, A-ou, Tweedledee, and Tweedledum face off against the enemy forces, Trixie and Troisienne cover up the giant image with smoke. Ascoeur and Q-feuille try to help as well, but after Un-ou and Tweedledum get hurt, it’s Trixie and Troisienne who come back to save the day. They appear to drive off all the Shadow Workers, but Gacktoel himself then uses the opportunity to strike down both Trixie and Troisienne. Realizing that they’re dying, the two ask Ascoeur and Q-feuille to protect the future of the galaxy before they lose consciousness.

Now this was what I was waiting to see. Not only did the story finally get going, it got going in a big way. The antagonists gained some more members and, more importantly, some motivation and purpose in episode eight, and they then made a huge move in episode nine by killing off some good guys. It’s probably more than a coincidence that they offed the one pair that wasn’t from the first series, and I hadn’t realized that Trixie and Troisienne were quite that powerful. Regardless, Gacktoel seems to have quite a useful ability and enacted a pretty effective plan against GTO, though I wonder why he didn’t just kill all of G-society’s targets (i.e. Hiver and the other ES members) while he was at it. I’m sure that’ll come back to haunt him if he turns out to be the final boss character and finds himself facing Ascoeur and Q-feuille. Those two will probably be forced to grow a lot and to take on additional responsibilities in the coming episodes, though hopefully they won’t brood too much.

  1. I don’t know if I can get used to the change in tempo but it is similar to the first season where there as well the first episodes were one silly encounter after another then the series gets darker and more serious as it progresses. I do hope that they lighten the mood occasionally as the story unfolds.

  2. T.T NOOOOO! My favorite pairing in this series! (I can just imagine all the possible yuri-ish scenes.) I doubt they’ll come back to life but we’ll see.. Why didn’t the little girl just kiss them all anyway? :/ And yes! I wanna see lumiere and eclair too!

  3. @Alec: It’s probably worth pointing out that Shade has the same seiyuu as Sinistra (Dextera’s seiyuu doesn’t seem to be about any more). This could mean that they are Sinistra and Dextera; Pauk even comments that he used to be a dog of the Galactic Police. Even if not, it is still unlikely they’d have Nobuo Tobita voicing both characters.

  4. Indeed, this is very much like the original Kiddy grade which didn’t kick off with a proper plot until episode 9, and did so with a bang.
Tho I still think that this show could have done with a little less slapstick. And we still don’t know what happened to the other original ES members… Eclaire and Lumiere felt like more likeable leads anyhow…

  5. The plot is picking up and it’ll be interesting to see what Ascoeur and Q-feuille do next. I think the voice acting for Ascoeur and Q-feuille isn’t really good since their crying when Trixie and Troisienne died kind of annoyed me instead of impacting me emotionally. I feel sad that they died so suddenly though.

Something that worries me is the amount of ES members left. Kiddy Grade had 6 whole pairs of ES members. The G Society meeting showed that there were only 3 (now probably 2) left, not counting Ascoeur and Q-feuille. I wonder what happened to all the other ES members, especially Eclair and Lumiere…

On a side note I love everyone else’s new designs EXCEPT for Un-ou. I liked his old hair and clothes much better than the new ones. It’s a pity since he’s one of my favorite characters.

  6. “Hmm, I don’t remember Tweedledee and Tweedledum being this weak >.>”

me either, I thought they were uber pwnage, like second strongest group, but they got smacked in the face and were like weak side characters this time around.

I liked troijean and trixie because they reminded me of eclaire and lumiere, I’ll miss them, damn kamina endings god damn it.

  7. Am I the only one who thinks Trixie and Troisienne are _very_ similar to Lumiere and Eclaire? Quite possible they were a regrow of those two who have different powers. But also the ship and mecha are very similar. It’s at least thirty years on.

The GTO doesn’t seem to have as many teams as the GOTT had either.

What’s missing from kiddy girl is a shady auditor.
