「就任、解任、もう堪忍」 (Shūnin, Kainin, Mō Kannin)
“Hired, Fired, Tired”

At Wagnaria, it’s customary to be greeted by blackmail and falcon punches on (hell, even after) your first day.

Due to Aoi’s constant screw ups (even if she means well), the manager is forced to call reinforcements. The restaurant really takes a beating when this week’s new additions to the cast are introduced. We are introduced to the Mashiba twins: Yohei and Mitsuki (voiced by Nakamura Yuuichi and Tomatsu Haruka respectively). It was pretty funny seeing them not getting along. I question how much you they actually hate each other when they carry each other’s photographs on them at all times. Kyouko’s selections for substitutes really made me wonder how many people really work at Wagnaria. Why couldn’t she have called people who actually worked at the restaurant? Furthermore, her whole bit about using her [gang] subordinates to work for free made me wonder how many followers she has. It must be a legion of people like in the movie Fight Club.

Also, how does Hiroomi do it? Wagnaria’s God of Blackmailing Information shouldn’t be working at a restaurant. Instead he should be at some intelligence agency or digging up dirt on politicians to move up in the world.

I was kind of disappointed by the lack of use of the new characters we got to see this week. They were a pretty funny pair. Instead, they served as a lead in into the second half of the episode which highlighted the tension between Souta and Inami. This wasn’t funny. It just made for half an episode of avoiding each other and awkwardness. Watching Maya work was more entertaining than this. The only funny part was Yachiyo pretty much unconsciously proving to Jun and Popura that she mirrors Souta in so many ways. I get that the show is teasing us with a pseudo confession but I kind of wish anime like WORKING’!! broke the mold and gave us a real one this early into the season. At least we get Souta questioning his feelings for Inami and it seems like we’ll be seeing more of it next episode if the title “Bad Tuning of Love” is any indication.

  1. I think you linked to the wrong picture for watching Maya work. But anywho, we need more Maya. She was so funny in the one (episode she was in first season. I thought she’d be promoted to regular status for S2. mesosad

  2. Putting aside this “I question how much you…” sentence, I’m pretty sure you’re referring to Souta in “highlighted the tension between Satou and Inami.”

But gotta admit, watching the two twins bickering was the most fun I had this episode~

  3. ah you’re right at times it does get annoying. Such as Satou even forcing himself into denial when he’s starting to realize maybe Inami is not such a bad girl after all. Sigh but I don’t think we’ll ever see a confession in this anime.

  4. A fix is needed in the last paragraph:

“they served as a lead in into the second half of the episode which highlighted the tension between Satou and Inami.”

    I think you meant Souta

  5. My fun points in this episode were:
    1) Souta using Hiroomi as a shield – too bad the punch scene was cut off.
2)Souta getting the smack down good at the end – guess that’s where the punch I was looking for (lol)
    3) Jun still bullying Popura even in his state – I can’t get enough of that. Oh and writing on his mask = XD And Yachiyo was like saying out loud all the things Jun wanted to say in that scene. Talk about flying arrows coming his way.
    4) (out of 10) 10 ponts to Inami for combo attack; 20 points for Yohei doing a triple axle horizontally.
    5) Yamada messing up not once but twice. She splashed them good I say.
This episode wasn’t that bad; not bad at all. I had a few good laughs.

  6. And I thought A-1’s done enough of Takanashi x Inami last season already, so seeing them featured again in the 2nd half was sort of a let-down after the excitement of the two new characters being introduced.

Aoi’s introduction mid-way last season created an instant impact among the established relationships of the existing characters, most notably spilling the beans to Yachiyo about Satou’s crush on her. The same cannot be said of Youhei and Mitsuki’s introductions this time around.

  7. I was excited about Kyoko’s underlings being introduced only to feel trolled after they were just kicked away in the 2nd half. Maya’s the ONLY ONE working in this restaurant, amazing.

  8. i actually really liked the second half. i thought it showed some nice progression in the way that souta, at least, felt about inami. the reconciliation scene, and “make-up punch,” had me aww’ing and laughing out loud at the same time. the twins were good, but they were too slapstick for my taste.

thanks again for your coverage of this show!

  9. Thanks for covering this show. Didn’t really look forward to the second half of this episode, but at least it wasn’t like the first season. Hopefully the next episode will be better.

  10. I agree, the second half didn’t quite work. Angst and tension doesn’t feel right in Working~!!
I have a feeling that Katanashi-kun is really gonna let the manager have it one of these days (with the expected “you’re old and single” thing he did way back in the early days of the first season), which should be fun to watch considering she doesn’t really react to anything he does.

We need to see more of the sisters, especially the novelist!!

    1. Not the only one no but there are a lot of people saying that its strangling the plot away from more entertaining characters

I for one am not one of them I love these two together like this….

    2. I thought they mixed in comedy quite well in the second half, espeically Popura pushing Yamada back up to the attic when Yamada said she was going to try and “fix” things between Souta and Inami. Also loved how Souta decided to made Hiroomi Inami’s punchbag after seeing through his attempt to patch them back up.

This second half is the first time they have focused on Inami this season, so I don’t see what any of the fuss is about. I personally think that they are showing too much Yamada and not enough Inami XD

  11. First half was great, 2nd half was almost worse than what I read about. Anything involving the Inami x Souta pairing makes me sick, even Taneshima x any males. I’m ok with Yachiyo x Kyouko/Satou. Wish there was more Yamada.

  12. When Inami-san hit Takanashi first time in this episode it wasnt hard has before I mean he didnt fly. May be she is changing lol. Or was that a fluke.

Fell so sorry for Inami-san I mean treated like a dog.

Tatami Galaxy pretty much nailed it when they said the story after the couple gets together isn’t interesting at all. Although, that show was on a different level.

Ever since this season started, I’ve grown to dislike Souta more and more. He complains about older women being selfish, but isn’t he just as selfish? Forcing his fanatic obsession on Popura and his whole dealing of the misunderstanding. I would’ve quit watching the show if he didn’t get laid out at the end like he did.

  14. Well, for a guy who’s had terrible experiences with older women I’d say Takanashi’s hate was long term induced. He feels like that but that doesn’t mean it is necessary to justify it, he’ll probably change his mind later on anyway. I don’t like him either but he’s Inami’s Boyfriend material and he’s not a bad person. Something’s wrong inside his head but that’s about it, he’s human after all.
I also like the pairing, and face it. Those two were engineered to be together.
Regardless of the result between them, they will be regarded as the show’s most decent, one sided romantic couple.

  15. Inami deserves to be referred to as a dog since she’s acting like a mad dog, hitting people for no reason other than their gender. Sure, she’s mentally ill but then she should take the initiative and see a doctor rather than continuing to hit people and work in a place where she knows she will continue to hit people.

The saving grace of this episode was the first half. Too much Inami will kill Working

Considering he is voiced by the one who does that “Trollzaya” role… Such irony.
