「さよならマイホーム」 (Sayonara Mai Houmu)
“Goodbye, My Home”

Poor Azusa and Tsukiko. Even though Youto has made it clear to both of them he doesn’t see them as partner material (yet), they still stick it out despite the setbacks.

Let’s begin with Azusa. At first I thought that Youto had completely forgotten about the Okinawa trip, but upon watching that specific scene, she really never did manage to directly spit out the words, “Come with me to Okinawa!” Instead, two poor girls with no ill intention happen to tag along instead, though they themselves know they’re a replacement for Youto. More generally, the two of them know exactly what’s going on with Azusa, minus a few hiccups in their understanding thanks to Azusa’s white lies. However, as the episode progressed, it was nice to see Azusa grow closer to those two, who honestly wish to be on friendly terms with “Komame-chan” and try their hardest despite their replacement status. The scene where Azusa barely misses a call quickly turned into a warm scene–instead of it being a groan that Azusa missed Youto’s only call, it was symbolic of how Azusa now has other people in her life to focus on and care about, who want to focus and care about her just as much. Optimistically, I want to say that this means we’ll get to see these two more often with the main cast as friends of Azusa, as their keen perceptiveness should shake up the bond between Azusa and Youto well.

As for Tsukiko, it’s suffering and happiness for her to be stuck in the little sister role. While this means that she can get along with her beloved perverted Tsukushi once again, it also means that Youto also sees her in that same light. Even without her expressions, we can see that the current status quo with Youto is unsettling. Although she truly believes that her controlled face will bring her greater happiness like it did with her sister, it must be hard at the same time for her to express her true self to Youto. After all, the situation won’t change for her if she doesn’t strive to make Youto look at her differently! Youto will probably Though she’s much more patient with Youto’s perverseness than many of her type, even she has her limits–she even spilled her poor tea from the intensity of it all! She does bear some resentment towards Youto when he suggests Tsukiko is childish, but at least the message of Youto’s caring attitude is what actually sticks in the long term. At times, it seems like she wants to grow closer to Youto, but at the same time resents the fact that his niceness can come off as being simple politeness.

Aside from our two heroines developing in their own universes, new developments have popped up. There lie two questions that lie at large, with the next episode addressing at least one of them. First off: what happened to the Tsutsukakushi family? Why is it only the two of them in that huge mansion? My first guess is that their family died in a terrible accident, but the possibility that they’re just far away like Youto’s family can’t be discredited yet. However, this very questions helps to explain why Tsukushi and Tsukiko share such a strong bond and why Tsukushi is well-prepared to marry her sister–she’s ready to stay with her sister forever. Second: what is up with the new cat statue and Youto’s belongings being present in that shady building? Apparently there’s more than one magical stony cat in town, and this cat seems to have some interesting plans for Youto and friends.

    1. Already Japanese fans are referring to Youto’s shameless attack as “進撃の巨X Shingeki no Kyo-xxx”

Rhymes with “Shingeki no Kyojin”, but the xxx specifically refers to the you-know-what. 🙂

    Aren’t they air-heads?

    1. They are air-heads personality-wise, but I feel like after Youto pointed out their grave mistake, I feel like they have potential to notice the subtleties with Azusa and give her proper advice.

      Just a hunch though.

  2. That non-SD Tsukiko bite scene is the best one so far.

And the translated manga only goes up to the shower scene, so from here on, it’s anybody’s guess what happens next, unless you can decipher moon runes.

  3. The Tsutsukakushi family situation is explained in volume 5 of the light novel, so you’ll have to wait for a second season, or read the novels to get the background story.

  4. Now I need to go build myself a stone cat statue and wish for everyone house to disappear! Since I built it, it will grant me wishes so long I offer something to it, right?

  5. You think that black rabbit seen atop the stony cat in the opening has any significance or is just there for the lols? Le gasp! Could it be that the rabbit is the real magic here?

  6. I would be happier if this show becomes more like a harem of three.. Tsukushi seems to be more attracted to her sister that I kinda wish she should also show MORE interest in the opposite gender, to be specific, Youto. :3

    1. I am with you partner. But we have no choice but to accept. In what consists this season, Tsukushi is a yuri siscon. In my own interpretation, she confuses love for his sister, after all a basic feature of their character is being silly. She believed that youto had an evil twin brother, that she could marry his sister in Massachusetts and her sister lost their facial emotions by maturity.

But I guess it will never be this interpretation, the yuri fans and siscon fans should be delighted with the current Tsukushi.

  8. Backlog Backlog Backlog, arrrrrrgh!

I like the Cocoa twins as a kind of moral support for Azuki.I hope the Cocoa Twins get more screentime. When they first appeared I didn’t think they were bad people, I just think they teased too much in the same way my family teases me about some things.

Who wouldn’t want to tease all of this cuteness?

Tsukiko is slowly losing the Ship Wars, she needs more screentime!

    I can sparkle too!

Dat ending was unexpected. What happened to the rest of the house?!It looked like it was just Yo’s room that got sent there. There’s no way that Tsukushi built that Big Stony Cat.Maybe her parents or ancestors did.

Thought I forgot about you? Trololol
