「お好み焼きを食べた」 (Okonomiyaki wo Tabeta)
“I Ate a Japanese Pancake”

In stark contrast to last week’s episode, this week’s was on the up-and-up with how much fun everyone was having!

Bad Luck.

Oh Koma-Chan, I don’t know how to break it to you, but it looks like you’re going to end up drawing the short stick every single time. Be it in a rhetorical or literal sense, it looks like the story isn’t going to let up any time soon. This week, you somehow angered water which this earth is literally chock-full of. Somehow getting hit from the oddest of angles, it was tough not to laugh as the situation quickly started to get out of hand. If I had to pick my favorite moment though, it would have to be when Renge accidentally shot you straight in the eyeballs with a sharp stream of water. Not necessarily because how ridiculous it was that the water had enough pressure to travel that far, but rather how it took so long for it to happen. The entire time after we got our first glimpse at what Ren-chon was doing, the show deliberately kept her in the shot as she toyed around with the faucet. Something I originally thought was some sort of tiny easter egg but instead turned into something much, much more. Good luck Koma-chan! You’re going to need it.

Kagayama Kaede – The Candy Store Nee-san

Making a quick appearance a few episodes back, it was nice to see Kaede get another chance to show up on screen. For those out of the loop, she’s one of the cutest characters in the show that is so over-protective of Ren-chon that it makes you wonder if she’s actually her secret sister or something.

In any case, it was nice to see her bust out some of her true nee-san skills this week. Showing the girls some of the secrets behind some delicious looking okonomiyaki, it really goes to show you just how much effort she puts into taking care of all of them. With no ulterior motive (except maybe looking a little cool) and even sometimes complaining about it, she’s the definition of the older sister character that this show sometimes needs. Because no matter how you put it, Kazuho and Koma-chan don’t seem to fit their roles as older sisters all that well most of the time (they do have their moments though!).

Also, kind of random, but did you notice how much bigger Hotaru’s shoes were compared to everyone else’s? I thought it was kind of funny since the show never seems to poke much fun at how much more mature she is compared to everyone else in the size department even though it’d probably make for a funny episode.

Looking Ahead

With another episode all wrapped up, it looks like the girls are going to have a nighttime adventure next week. But, with the episode previews being so cryptic just about anything could happen, right? Anyways, I’ll catch you guys next week when Koma-chan hopefully doesn’t end up having something terrible happen to her. See you later!

    1. I love how they implied that Kaede was the one who taught Renge the silly teru-teru bouzu paper plate mask thing that freaked Komari out last week- thorugh Kaede recognizing what it was immediately although the other characters had just stated that it wasn’t obvious…

    2. What I found funny and cute in this scene is Renge has the same look but Natsumi said that was her smug face. It’s like the characters in the anime can tell what Renge’s mood is while we the audience only see her usual face.

  1. Heh, I remember playing around with a faucet like Renge did when I was younger, and I knew she would try covering both at some point. Literally lol’d when she hit Koma-chan right in the eyes.

Dagashiya has quite an assortment of clothes, though. Livin’ that playa lifestyle, “Real Money Talks”.

I really enjoyed that flashback episode in season 1 where young Kaede had to babysit baby Renge. I guess you could say her sisterly instincts awoke there. And I couldn’t agree more that she’s so cute, not to mention pretty independent. She does look like she lives by herself.

Their little excursion outside was really fun to watch, seeing them pick berries and make leaf whistles without any worries at all…and then the rain happened. It was really funny and cute too when they all ran into Kaede’s store and were all talking at the same time. Renge was the cutest of all since even when she was soaked the only thing she wanted to do was show off her leaf whistle to Kaede.

I thought Hotaru being developed for her age was already alluded to since Candy Store’s current tracksuit fits her. I’m not sure though if what Natumi was wearing is also Kaede’s outfit from her younger days. Actually what I think is not being pointed out directly is Hotaru must be really well off. Her family has such a nice home and they did arrive via plane. Not to mention her having a gaming console.
