「みんなでお月見をした」 (Minnade Otsukimi wo Shita)
“We Looked At The Moon Together”
After a few weeks of kicking it in the backseat, this week’s episode thrust Natsumi straight back into the spotlight. With both good and bad things happening to her every minute, there was plenty to keep you entertained this week.
Extreme Fishing
With a 500 yen prize waiting for her, I was quite surprised to see how serious Natsumi took her mom’s request. From gathering the whole group to fishing with a legitimate fishing rod, it really felt like she was ready and roaring to get things done. Toss in how everyone else’s attempt at catching a fish literally sent them flying and it made Natsumi’s dive into the river to catch that giant carp a whole lot more impressive. That is, until we all realized that she forgot to take off her mom’s wristwatch and broke it. Which when you think about it probably cost a lot more than 500 yen. But hey, she still managed to catch a giant carp right?
Natsumi Ver 2.0
After such a manly dive into the river to catch a giant carp, the show made a quick 180 and unleashed something I thought we’d never see – Natsumi trying to be a cutesy girl. Instead of the loud and brash girl we’ve come to know and love, we were given someone who tried her best to be as cute and proper as possible. Which in Natsumi’s case wasn’t really all that much especially with how quickly she changed out of the outfit that Kono-chan dressed her up in. Still, makes you wonder what an episode that focused entirely on her trying to become a proper and cutesy girl would be like! I think we’d all have a fun time watching her try to break those tomboyish habits of hers!
Moon Viewing Dango
So with two strikes already against her, you’d think the show would let up and give Natsumi some room to breathe right? Not a chance! In the final skit we got to see just how much trouble Natsumi’s carelessness can really get her (and any innocent bystanders like Hika-nee) into. Somehow, it feels like if they had just went ahead with Hika-nee’s backup plan of just profusely apologizing, they wouldn’t have ended up on the grill cooking mochi throughout the night. But instead of just coming clean, they ended up falling into Natsumi’s pace and worse off than they should have been. I mean, it was a genuine mistake (at least on Hika-nee’s part)!
Looking Ahead
With the end of the season coming closer with each passing episode, I’m starting to get a little sad that we won’t get to see anymore of our girls. Sad in the fact that this second season of Non Non Biyori has been such a enjoyable watch and I wish it could just have more episodes! In any case, it looks like we’ll get to see some more of our side characters like Dagashiya and Kono-chan. See you next week!

Huh? She has always been in the spotlight for me 🙂 Regardless this Natsumi-centric episode made me very very happy. Her pairing with Hika-nee was gold!
Also, as much as I’d like to see her in a dress, tomboy-ish Nattsun is still the best.
This show is such a pleasure to watch. Traditionally Mondays are a weak day for good anime. This and Jitsu wa Watashi make Monday’s bearable.
Even when he’s getting smacked around by fish, bro just remains chill.
I agree with ahbonk, tomboy Natsumi is best.
I’d hate to have to crush everyone’s (especially Renge’s) anticipation for the dango, but apologizing immediately probably would have been best for Natsumi and Hika-nee.
I don’t personally find this series as entertaining as others. But it’s more of a relaxing slice of life, like a soothing screen saver.
The variety of colors and green they use is nice. Almost never a cloudy or dreary day.
This show is more nature appreciation show than I thought it’d be.
The Natsumi and Hika-nee antics had me totally laughing. I hope we get to see some interaction between them before the season ends.
I’m also really glad to see Candy-store these past few episodes. I always thought the first season needed more of her so this season has really come through on that front.
